Panasonic DMR-E75VS Progressive-Scan DVD Recorder/VCR Combo

Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Introducing Panasonic's first dual-deck DVD-Video recorder/VHS recorder, which enables you to easily dub home movies and recorded VHS tapes onto either DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs, and from DVD discs back to a VHS tape. It also plays back music burned to CD-R/RW discs as well as MP3 digital audio.

The DVD side of the DMR-E75V features progressive-scan video playback and great sound thanks to the Dolby Digital and DTS output. The unit also offers twin NTSC TV tuners, enabling you to record two channels at the same time (one on DVD and one on the VHS VCR). Other features include variable data rate settings, a front A/V input, and composite-, component-, and S-video connections on the back.

With Chasing Playback, an element of the Time Slip feature, you can watch a program currently being recorded from any point that's already been recorded--while continuing to record the program in process. Simultaneous Recording and Playback, the second element of the Time Slip feature, lets you record a program onto a disc while you're watching any other program that's previously been recorded on the same disc.

5 out of 5 stars More things than I really need..........2007-03-13

This unit might be able to make a Mar's trip....far more flexibility than I need but it is there for the taking....the performance is excellent and surprisingly it plays most of the newer tapes so well they are hard to tell from a CD....sometimes impossible to tell the difference....dubbing is easy enough and provides good viewing of the dubbed item..............buy this again? Yes I would......

5 out of 5 stars Great VCR DVD player and burner.......2006-05-08

I've had this machine for over a year and have had no problems with it. Once you get used to the process for dubbing from vhs to dvd it is easier to use. I've burned many dvds and have only had trouble with a couple the machine was unable to read to be able to record on. Thanks to other reviews I've read I always finalize the dvds so they can be viewed on other machines with no problem. I would buy this unit again.

1 out of 5 stars Strong for 6 months.......2006-04-03

I have had this unit for approximately a year now. For the first 6 mnths it worked fine. After that time period we would be watching a dvd movie and half way through the picture will go black, but you could still here the sound. If we rebooted the system, and jump scenes to where the trouble began, it would generally resume and work fine. Over the past couple of months this occurs 3 to 4 times each movie. When we finally get too frustrated and take the same disk to the back of the house and put it in our cheapo GE player...it plays fine. I would not waste my money on this product.

2 out of 5 stars Customer Service Lacking !!!.......2006-01-17

Unit # 1 functioned briefly, returned for replacement . Amazon service excellent.
Unit #2..functioned 4 months then deteriorated in both VHS and DVD circuits . Repeatedly tried on-line service with Panasonic with no response . Provided S/N a number of times; Panasonic continued to re-request it . Tried phone service..NEVER- got to a human voice . Waits 45 " . Located Panasonic service in Charlotte ; returned unit twice before successful operation . They claim bad quality parts from Panasonic .

Basic problem : when playing back a dubbed RAM disk , unit would stop and reverse at 2min. 52 sec playback time . No one had a technical explanation for this ! "Fixed" it by reversing all dubbed disks to 00, then playing . Local technician says, "something's wrong" but still no real solution .

I have been faithful Panasonic customer for 30 years and this is the worst ever. Very, very disapointed . I won't hold by breath awaiting a call from Panasonic Customer Service...but am apprehensive how long the unit will operate .

5 out of 5 stars Transfer from VHS to DVD With Confidence.......2005-12-30

This product does for me what it was intended to do. It easily makes DVD's from old videotapes. Pretty much you put a recorded tape in, a blank DVD in, and you press "DUB." It's that simple. The only trick is to remember to finalize the discs, and this does take a little investigating through a somewhat confusing manual in order to do so. Once done, I'm sure they will play on most machines. I have yet to have a problem playing the DVD's on either of my two computers or my tv. I am using Memorex 16X DVD-R discs. In order to use 16X discs, you have to go to the Panasonic website to download a firmware upgrade for the machine(easy to do).

The VCR and DVD play smoothly and work quickly. I have owned Sharp, Magnavox and JVC, and the Panasonic easily outdoes any of them in the quality department.

The only minus is the inability to create thumbnail chapters on the DVDs when using a DVD-R disc. You can skip 5 minutes up to the next "chapter," but you won't find that chapter in a thumbnail.

Overall, for the price, it is hands-down a good recorder. For what you pay someone else to do, you can have your recorded discs AND the machine that recorded them.

1 out of 5 stars I also wish there was one with NO STARS.......2007-03-14

Had no problem hooking the unit up with my satelite receiver or the TV. But right off the remote would not work and like the manual stated, I replaced the batteries three times, still no luck. So, right away I sent a e=mail to Panasonic for help. After the third time, I sent a e=mail to USADEPOT, (this is where the machine was shipped from) Still no response. I was able to play VHS and DVDs. However, since no remote, when the phone would ring, wouold have to push the stop button on the face of the unit. Afer the phone call, pushed the start button, the movie started but then froze just as if I had pushed the "pause" and the only way to continue was to eject the DVD and start all over. With the lack of customer support, this is the last Panasonic I will purchase.

1 out of 5 stars I WISH THEY HAD NO STARS TO RATE! .......2006-06-12

I bought one of these Brand New in January 2005. Catagory was changed to begin with remanufactured, so all of the original ratings are no longer listed. I feel bad anyone considering this unit can't read those. When I first rated it I gave it 2 stars. Many others like me left ratings & feedback, very difficult to operate and many problems with cannot read disc. Dubbing was very confusing to operate and a real pain. In addition the tracking adjustment was nothing but grief. Finally I needed a new DVD cartridge at a cost of more than $400.00 so I threw it in the dumpster. Best thing that ever happened to me. I am not someone who can afford to have bought such a poor product. I assume must can't either. I bought 7 months ago a Panisonic DMR-ES40V. I paid under $250.00 Brand New with a 2 year replacement warranty for $29.99. It has none of the previous problems and also has auto tracking which DVD and VCR units have had for more years than I can remember. SO THE NEWER UPDATED UNIT IS GREATLY IMPROVED AND A GREAT PRICE! WHY DID I BUY ANOTHER PANISONIC? I NEEDED TO FINALIZE MY MANY RECORDED DVD's TO PLAY ON ALL DVD PLAYERS.

4 out of 5 stars A machine that makes excellent copies, and is easy to use.........2005-11-18

When you buy a refurbished unit, you never know what you are getting...Sometimes returned or damaged units are repacked, and sent off to the next customer...At times a product is damaged in shipping, hence a unit is received doa, with broken parts, thanks to shippers throwing the box around 10 feet from the truck to the sidewalk smashed...In other words buying reburbished is a roll of the dice at best...This is my experience with reburbished products, including the dmr-75VS...My unit works well and, makes excellent copies, and easy to use...I bought the unit reburbished, only because, they ran out of new units,as the unit was rated quite well in consumer reports...MY advice is "only buy this from a dealer with a good return -refund policy."

1 out of 5 stars remanufactured product.......2005-10-27

I bought a remanufactured Panasonic DMR-E75VS Progressive-Scan DVD Recorder/VCR Combo which came to me ... broken. The DVD
tray was not going to open at all. I got really mad and depressed and sent it back. I got refund for this stuff and bought a new Panasonic DMR ES30VS, which is great.
