Finding and viewing recorded material are simple, because there's no need to search, fast-forward, or rewind. And, with one-touch 2-way transferring, you can dub a VHS tape to DVD by pushing a single button or vice-versa (so long as the disc isn't copy protected).

One-touch DVD recording will save your favorite programs from accidental overwriting by automatically scanning the disc for blank space before starting the recording process. No more worries that your favorite sitcom's season finale will be overwritten by a family member's Sunday fishing show.

As a player, the DMR-ES30VS offers a progressive-scan video output for optimal picture quality when viewing a DVD movie on a high-definition or HD-ready TV. Progressive scanning doubles the scan lines of an interlaced signal by scanning all 525 lines in 1/60 of a second for each full pass. The higher-density video signal creates film-like DVD images with rich detail, extraordinary depth of field, and precise color reproduction.

VCR features include quasi S-VHS playback (plays Super-VHS tapes at standard-VHS resolution), Jet Search super-fast playback scanning, Jet Rewind, repeat play, and long-recording ability (10 hours to 1 VHS T-180 cassette). Good product, but struggling a bit.......2007-04-07

Bought this for my dad who loves to record TV shows for viewing later. Setup was easy, the quality of recording very good, and dubbing is awesome. What I am not able to figure out is how to create chapters or add more content to the DVD - I wanted to record TV episodes to DVD and since DVD capacity can hold more than one episode, I wanted to add to the existing DVD - unfortunately, the user manual was not very helpful and everytime I tried, it wiped out my original recording. So my dad started recording to tape, and then transfer to DVD (as a workaround). I guess I need to do more research/playing with this. OVerall, it is a good product, and it was a gift he loves.

I have no complaints whatsoever with the Panasonic DMR-ES30VS DVD Recorder/VCR Combo, which performs exceedingly well. What impressed me the most was the support I received from Panasonic setting up the DVD Recorder.

The finished DVD is excellent when the VHS tape is of good quality.

Also, the process to prepare "copied to" DVDs for play on other DVD players is simple and relatively brief: about 3 minutes.

You can transfer data from VHS tapes to DVD while you watch your regular programming on TV, or while you sleep. This process that the Panasonic DMR-ES30VS DVD Recorder/VCR Combo provides is non-intrusive.

Works great, easily record on cheap DVD-RAM (8 hours on EP) setting. You do not have to leave unit on it starts and stops automatically, programs, easily. Cheap unit for under $100. You can always burn the saved movies to a DVD-R for perminant use.

A great little workhorse.......2007-03-24

Wanted to get the portion of VHS/BETA of my 530 movie collection into the 21 century of DVD's without major spending. First tried the Pinnacle movie Maker but it didn't really perform as hoped (i.e. half way through the copying I'd get pixel seperation and later in the movie the discs would start to drag. Which the Pinnacle reps tried to help in correcting it never worked right. After reading the reviews on this unit I bought it and put it to work. The two neat features I really enjoy is on the VHS transfer all I have to do is set the record speed and hit "Copying", come back two hours later and I got a great copy. The second point is that on my older BETA tapes of programs recorder of TV presentations (Once an Eagle, Centennial, Noble House, etc)I wanted to remove all the commerial breaks. With this unit all I had to do was hit "pause" on the remote and the record light would flash until you went back to recording. In a little less then a month I recorded over 150 movies with great results and no problems from the re-furbished machine. While the instruction manual is a little difficult to work for advanced taping (dividing, chapters, editing, titles, etc.)I was up and running in about thirty minutes (all simple copying from tapes to DVDs) by just following the on scene tutorials. THe other great advantage of this stand alone unit over software programs and a computer is that you don't tie up your computer for long periods of time.

The item arrived must faster than I expected and I was thrilled with it. It was in perfect condition and works perfectly. Since I am technically challanged it was a little difficult for me to catch on to the operation of some of the functions but after careful reading of the instruction I managed too. I would recommend this seller.

i tried to change from french to english & i have been unsuccessful. who ever set it up for the first time selected to get all messages & menus in french...unfortunately i only speak english & a little spanish. i don't know when i try to execute a function if it is the right action or not. i need help, but have not been able to get anyone at the panasonic help desk, wait times too long, getting nowhere on the website either
