Small size does matter--especially when you're trying to keep your entertainment center from taking over the living room. Philips helps keep it tamed with the slim-profile DVD622/37 multi-format DVD player, which measures just 2 inches high. It provides compatibility with a wide variety of disc formats and digital files, including DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, MP3, and JPEG (Picture CD).

Its 192 KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction. Other features include PAL/NTSC playback, JPEG photo slideshows (with zoom and rotate functionality), Dolby Digital decoding, and tri-lingual menu display (English, French, Spanish). It offers the following video and audio connections:

Tech Talk
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars No Sound.......2007-06-19

Had this DVD player for a year and watched about 5 movies a month when the audio outputs stopped delivering sound. Phillips used to make great equipment, this DVD player is junk. Save yourself some money and buy the "El Cheapo" DVD player for $30.00. The cheapies last longer and they're made in the same place as the high end models with the same materials and lack of quality.

4 out of 5 stars Great price. Great entry-level DVD player.......2007-05-17

I have to admit I am impressed by the negative comments I have read about this product. Yuo all must have received a defective unit or just got unlucky with it. I got this DVD at JC Penney on sale for $29.95 in August 2006 because I needed a new cheap DVD player with progressive scan. Then I come to find out that this DVD player has both NTSC and PAL which is great for me that I watch movies from Italy. I already had one Sampo DVD region free to dothis but I searched online to see if I could unlock this Philips. Found it. After pressing 8 buttons this cheap DVd player plays anything I feed him with. It does play PC recorded DVDs too. Its menu is easy to use and so its remote. The progressive scan picture looks great on my 50" Panasonic plasma. And all for $29.95.

1 out of 5 stars Worst dvd player ever!!!!.......2007-03-09

I have owned this dvd player for less than a year, worked fine everytime. then all of the sudden played a dvd worked fine, put in another one and said bad disk. tried about 10 different dvds over the course of 3 days, one dvd worked for about 10 minutes and then time after time bad disk. well have you ever seen the copy machine scene in office space..... thats what happened to this pos.

5 out of 5 stars Good basic dvd player for a good price.........2006-12-30

I bought this player 6-8 months ago, and have had no problems with it. I have a Netflix subscription and a 3 year old, so it gets used every day. It's a great little player for the money.

1 out of 5 stars Nice price. Poor product. Poor customer service........2006-12-03

12 months after I bought this DVD player it stopped working; it randomly stops and resets itself every 5 to 10 minutes.
I called Philips technical support and after navigating their support phone line for half an hour and speaking to an agent for five minutes they told me that because it is out of warranty and this model is no longer covered by their 'Out of Warranty Reduced Cost Exchange' program, all I can do is go to their website and buy a new model. I asked if I could troubleshoot it and was told that they no longer support this product.
I'll be staying away from Philips products from now on; budget or high-end.
