Video Features
The DVD-V2000's component-video output is ideal for use with the latest high-resolution televisions (and a standard composite-video output works with most older TVs). Chapter Digest simplifies access to DVD scenes by generating representative thumbnail images for each of a disc's chapters, and motion zoom enlarges the picture without distortion. The VCR plays back S-VHS tapes at full VHS quality, and provides commercial skip, dual-azimuth four-head recording and playback, HQ and luminance video noise reduction, quick start, end search, one-touch recording, and an auto-fit recording system.

Audio Features
The DVD-V2000 is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 audio files. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimal decoding of all disc formats, while 2x audio playback lets you hear the movie or music while you search, where most other DVD players are mute. The player's Phantom Surround processor simulates surround-sound effects using only two speakers.

Connections
In the video realm, you get the works: standard composite-video, S-video, and premium component-video outputs for the DVD player (one set each), as well as two sets of composite-video inputs and one RF (cable-type) input and output for the VCR. You have the choice of optical or coaxial digital-audio outputs to feed a surround-sound signal to a Dolby Digital-decoding or DTS-decoding AV receiver.

I've been quite pleased with it.......2006-12-15

I've owned one for about three years and I still use it quite a bit. I'm not so sure about the excessive noise issue, but then I'm not especially picky really so perhaps it's attrocious by audiophile standards and I just don't know it.

It is very much like a DVD player and a VCR separately only in less space - push a button and it becomes the other rather then an integrated solution for both. It does seem to support DVD+-R, VCD, SVCD pretty ok (though some (S)VCD encodings can throw it off) including reading CDR/CDRW and DVD+-RW, which is always handy. It is approaching obsoleteness a bit in my sphere of caring, but I consider it a good backup for old collections. It does seem a bit "in the raw", possibly with the abillity to confuse people who aren't that used to higher technology with the state switches between VCR/DVD and being a little obscure about bookmarks, chapters, etc. It's not exactly a steep learning curve for someone growing up in the gadget generation, but I would hesistate to recommend it to people who require extreme levels of user-friendliness and very elaborate explanations about what to do when rather then just probing out what might work reflexivly until it becomes obvious.

I have had this Samsung DVD-V2000 DVD-VCR Combo for about three years and though it had had the occasional minor electronic glitch I never had any major problems with the DVD player and I didn't find the DVD player or the VCR to be too noisy unlike my old VCR which was extremely noisy! I pretty much enjoyed having this DVD/VCR combo and being able to watch my favorite movies and TV shows on DVD and use the VCR when I needed to tape something and the only time I have ever really had any problem with DVDs skipping was when the discs were dirty and needed to be cleaned.

I have to aggree with most of the reviews here. The VCR/DVD combo is nice and VCR playback is good. BUT I have major problems with skipping even on new DVDs since the day I got it. Problems have persistently gotten worse. I should have returned this item long ago.

I've had this unit for about 8 months. I've had very few problems with dvd skipping or anything like that. My VCR portion works fine. But recently, I've been having a problem with this thing actually reading dvd's. It stopped reading dvd's a few weeks ago. However, since I was still under the manufacturer's 1 year warranty, I called Samsung, and they gladly offered to replace/fix my broken unit in less than 14 days upon them receiving my current one. According to UPS, I'm supposed to be getting it in tomorrow....let's hope it works!

works alright when it's working.......2005-03-19

I've been reading most of the postings here and must admit I have not noticed any undue noise from this unit (many have complained of this) and I think that the picture quality is okay. I've generally been satisfied with the picture, sound, etc. but have had a problem with it powering off occasionally. I have only seem one review that mentioned this problem so far.

We purchased this unit about a year and a half ago. For quite some time now, it has developed the habit of completely powering off unexpectedly, usually while a DVD is playing, sometimes while my son is playing his PS2 which is hooked up through the unit. I don't use this DVD-VCR player as much as my kids do, so it seems as though they were just putting up with it and not mentioning it to me for quite some time. It sometimes just needs to be turned back on, but on occasion it keeps turning off, over and over. Sometimes it even ejects the DVD.

Luckily I have an extended warranty which I finally put into use this week because as I was sitting watching TV a few days ago, the thing just powered up on it's own...and then powered off....spooky. The remote was nowhere near me and I was ALL ALONE....

Of course, even the techs at Best Buy told me, they may not be able to replicate the problem since it is intermittent. They only had it a few days, they reset this and that, cleaned this and that and promised that if it happened again they would replace it. I wonder if they've been getting a lot of complaints since they seemed to be so easygoing about it.

It has been a problem so I wouldn't recommend this unit, you could probably do better.
