With the Audiovox D1700 portable DVD player, you'll never be bored while traveling. The lightweight player's 7-inch widescreen display uses antiglare and antireflective coatings designed for bright conditions, so you won't have to book a red-eye flight just to be able to watch your movies. The player handles a variety of formats, including audio and MP3-encoded CD-Rs.

Video features
Brightness and color buttons let you adjust the picture to your taste and viewing conditions. A display button cycles through the player's aspect ratios, with its native 16:9 being the default. Other modes are "cinema," "normal," and "off" (you can conserve battery power if you're listening to music).

Audio features
The Audiovox D1700 features built-in stereo speakers. Virtual Surround (by Q Surround) simulates surround sound when you're listening to the latest Hollywood blockbusters via the onboard speakers, headphones, or your home stereo.

Connections
The supplied headphones plug directly into a 0.125-inch headphone jack (compatible with all minijack-terminated headphones). The headphone jack doubles as an optical digital-audio output for use with a minijack-to-Toslink fiber-optic cable (see accessories, below).

The AV outputs (composite-video with stereo analog audio) can also serve as AV inputs. Simply switch "Output" to "Input" and use the provided interconnect to feed the player a signal from a camcorder, VCR, game console, or other video device.

Other features
The player handles a variety of discs including DVDs, Video CDs, audio compact discs, CD-Rs, and MP3-encoded discs. The portable DVD player is powered by a lithium ion battery rated for three hours of playback. A hold switch prevents unintended stopping or starting of disc playback.

      I purchased this item at a very special reduced price and it was supposed to be brand new in the box. However, after I tried to use it for the first time, I couldn't even get it to power up into the "Welcome" screen. All I got was a blank display. I tried this several times with the same result. Needles to say, I couldn't get it to play any of my DVD's. Also, the remote control didn't work (I checked the battery and it was OK). There was a "Best Buy" sticker on the battery pack that came with the unit, so I assume it was rejected once before for the same problem. So, I returned the unit back to Amazon.com for a credit to my account. I was disappointed that this supposedly new unit was defective just out of the box.

      We purchased this model about 15 months ago. Our original unit had to be immediately returned because the screen would freeze and then the movie would skip forward. Our 2nd unit has functioned well until recently. Now the same problem is occuring (screen freezing and skipping). Audiovox will not honor the warranty (it's 2 months after the 1-year has expired) and wants $165 flat fee to fix it. Not real thrilled with this company. I would look elsewhere.

      My first unit had many problems, so I exchanged it for another. (See my previous review). The 2nd unit eventually started having the same problems as the first one. So finally I asked to exchange this for the 1680 model. I've had the 1680 for several months now and it has worked much better...although not perfect. (I wonder if there is any brand or model out there that works 100% of the time?) I also noticed that Audiovox now makes a model number 1730. Probably they realized the 1700 was a dog for the most part and have discontinued it(hopefully). I still maintain that customer service was really very good.

      We purchased one of these last month, all it managed to do was destroy the DVDs that were played.

      What's even worse is the service we received from Audiovox. They first told us that they wouldn't take the product back because we were playing defective DVDs in it. Then They wanted to send a refurb in exchange for a brand new player. Then we forced the product return.

      We still haven't resolved the issue of replacing or paying for the brand spanking new DVDs that the Audiovox player ruined. Audiovox is entirely unwilling to make any effort to resolve this.

      Don't buy this player. I would go as far as to say if you are smart you won't buy ANY Audiovox product. You would be taking too much of a risk on reciving a poor quality product AND too much of a risk of reciving poor (and rude) customer service.
