Amazon.com Product Description
GoVideo's R6530 DVD recorder lets you easily record your favorite television shows and treasured home videos to high-quality, long-lasting DVD+R (write-once) and DVD+RW (rewriteable) discs. The recorder's built-in NTSC TV tuner and onscreen user interface permits up to eight timer recordings over a single month, with five recording speeds providing between one and six hours of content on each DVD disc. The R6530's high-quality recordings and easy operation make it a perfect replacement for the traditional VCR.

The R6530's versatile playback features include progressive-scan video outputs and support of MP3, JPEG, and Kodak Picture CDs. A variety of video and audio inputs--including front-panel connections for fast, temporary hookups--grant connection to virtually all televisions and home theater components. An easy-to-use full-function remote control commands all the action.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the R6530 stands ready to deliver the full playback potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

When recording, the unit automatically creates a new disc title every time you start a new recording. You can then add chapters to these recordings manually or have them automatically inserted at five-minute intervals.

DVD+RW discs require no finalizing: you can record, eject, and play them with minimal fuss, thanks to background formatting. This feature, which lowers total burning time, is an advantage over the "dash" formats. Other DVD+RW advantages include on-disc content editing and multisession writing. And, through DVD+RW and DVD+R's compatibility with most existing DVD players, they're a great way for you to share your special memories with family and friends.

To help you navigate the transition from VCR to DVD recording, GoVideo's "white-glove customer care" includes free telephone assistance in making your first recording, should you need it.

What's in the Box
DVD player/recorder, a blank DVD+RW disc, a full-function remote control, remote batteries, an RF coaxial audio/video cable (3 feet), a stereo analog audio/composite-video interconnect (3 feet), a quick-reference guide, a warranty card, and a user's manual.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very pleased!.......2006-10-23

GoVideo was a pioneer in the DVD Recorder industry and I've owned other GoVideo equipment that have worked well for years. This unit has most of the features I wanted, though the manual was a bit tough to decipher. If you're willing to put the time into reading it though, I don't think you'll be disappointed. This is one of the two brands of DVD Recorders I'd give top ratings to.

1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware.......2005-09-06

I purchased the R6530 a year and a half ago. I was happy at first. The unit made fewer coasters than my computer dvd burner did. I stocked up on blank DVD+R media at Christmas when merchants drop the prices to get you in the door...different brands at different recording speeds. I was in the middle of a cake box of Memorex 4x DVD+R media when the unit decided it could no longer recognize my blank disk. I tried disks by Fuji, Imation, Ridata, and none of them worked. I called Go Video and told them of my problem and they said that since I was in the warranty period they would send me a new unit if I would send them $75 dollars. I did and they did. The new unit would not recognize my disk either. I again called Go Video and they said another new unit was on the way, just ship that one back. I packaged it up and sent them several disk that had failed to work in the unit along with a letter describing my difficulties. I hoped they would develop a firm ware upgrade for the unit. The have not.

I have found the unit will only work with high grade 2.4x DVD+R media (although their tech support says 4x media is compatible). Unfortunately, you can't find media that slow anymore unless it's Dual Layer. I've got about 4 blank disk left and then I guess this unit will become a paper weight. I would feel guilty if I even gave it away to a stranger. I am dumbfounded that no one at their technical support seems aware of this problem and there is no effort on their part to find a way to make higher speed blank disk compatible with this recorder.
Buyer Beware of this unit!

1 out of 5 stars POOR WORKMANSHIP.......2005-08-23

I AGREE WITH ALL THE REVIEWS PREVIOUS SAID OF THIS PRODUCT. POOR PRODUCT. I BOUGHT ONE UNIT SEND IT BACK AFTER 3DAYS WAS REPLACE WITH A REFURBISH ( FRONT PANEL WAS BANG UP). AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT IT WOULD NOT ACCEPT 27 OUT 30 DISC AT ALL. EITHER IT SAID NO DISC OR AN ERROR MESSAGE SHOW UP. I ALSO HAD DIFFICULTY RECORDING A TV SHOW IT SHOW THAT IT WAS RECORDING BUT THEN WHEN I WAS ABLE TO CHECK THE DISC IT WAS STILL EMPTY. I CALLED THE TECH TWICE & WAS DISCONNECT BOTH TIMES. IT WILL PLAY ANY RECORDED DISC SO I QUESS I WILL KEEP IT AS A SPARE PLAYER. I SINCE THEN BOUGHT A DIFFERENT BRAND & HAVE HAD THIS UNIT FOR 2WKS WITH NO PROBLEMS YET. ALSO HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON PARTS & LABOR. SO PLEASE DO NOT BUY GO VIDIO RECORDERS IT'S NOT WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY.

6 months old and I have an over-priced dvd player only.

Yeah, sure... I technically could record with it, but it's so cranky and annoying that I don't bother. I'm actively looking for another option. Too bad I didn't give it a full check-out during the initial return period. :-(

The remote - all the buttons feel much the same, but that's OK as the deck will not recognize anything you push unless you hold the remote out in just the right place to get the signal through that annoying mirrored front panel.

User interface - mildly disjointed. I could live with that.. if... and only if... it would actually respond as you do anything in record or edit mode. You push a button, wait a second to see if you had the remote in just the right spot for the system to see it, and then it will consider doing what you tell it to.

Media - I had heard that this unit was a bit particular on the media it will accept. That's an understatement. It does't seem to like anything faster than 4x. Now you have to find 4x it likes. Ridata is supposed to be pretty good - I bought 100 4x printables. They don't work. In fact, most of the media I bought to test doesn't work. Heck - even finding 4x media is becoming a challenge anymore.

There are several newer Go Video models listed here. Too bad - After this experience Go Video is on my Don't Buy, Take to the range for 12g percussive therapy" list. If it didn't actually play disks I'd have taken a sledgehammer to it before its fourth month in my house. As it is, I'll just use it as a player and let the bitterness for the wasted investment in Go Video grow.

I hear the Panasonic EMR ES10K actual does what it's advertised to do..... Hmmmm.... maybe.....

1 out of 5 stars piece of crap.......2005-06-04

About the worse designed electronic component I've bought in many years.

The programming features are about as advanced as a 1985 VCR. I bought
the unit knowing that, and figured that I would trade off programming
convenience for digitial quality and the durability and convenience of DVDs... wrong.

People mentioned that the remote is very picky. That is an understatement.
The remote doesn't work for shXX. If you stand right in front of the unit and
point it at it, it usually works. Other than that, you have to click over-
and-over-and-over-and-over. They also chose to use frequencies which both
conflict with other devices, and which no universal remotes work with (we
have tried many and even the remote vendors say to forget about it).

It always took the unit a long time to start up, but, after the warranty
ran out, it sometimes will not start at all.

Sound and video quality were good when it was new, but both have deteriorated
drastically. It now humms loudly (for all audio output modes) for the
first 10 minutes after turning it on (even if just watching broadcasts directly).
It is now completely useless as a recorder since the audio is so fuzzy that
you can't hear words. Video of recordings looks like you are
watching a 1968 TV.
