Amazon.com Product Description

DVD players are preferred over VCRs because of their ease of use and their quick access to content without fast-forwarding or rewinding. Still, many who have left VHS behind miss the ability to record their favorite content. With the Cyberhome CH-DVR1600, you get all of the recording versatility of a high-end VCR and the convenience of a progressive-scan DVD player.

Recording to Disc
CyberHome's DVR 1600 Personal DVD Recorder records to inexpensive and reliable DVD+R/RW discs. Its built-in editing features allow you to add chapter markers or, if that's too much trouble, can automatically select chapter markers for you. Users can record from TV shows through the built-in tuner or from any video source, thanks to the unit's composite video, S-video, and IEEE 1394 inputs. That means that you could record directly from a cable box or a digital video camera's Firewire port. Like a traditional VCR, more programming will fit on a disc at lower quality record levels. For example, the DVR 1600 will record 6 hours of programming in SLP mode, but much less in SHQ mode.

Also like a VCR, the DVR 1600 features live, timer, and scheduled recording functions. The on-screen disc title navigator makes it easy to quickly access your recordings and set up new programs.

Full-Function Progressive-Scan Player
The DVR 1600 is also a full-function progressive-scan DVD player, supporting the best functions of commercial DVDs, like zoom, slow motion forward, fast-forward, review, frame-by-frame, multi-angle, program play, bookmarks, and parental lock. As a player, it supports a variety of disc formats, including DVD+, DVD-, VCD/SVCD, and music formats CD-Audio and CD-R/RW.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars = A Total Waste of Time + Money.......2007-03-13

I don't normally write such negative reviews of electronics, because I understand sometimes you can just get a lemon. Sometimes, someone at the plant has a bad day and puts together a bad machine. Stuff happens. Nobody's perfect. BUT this machine is nothing but a SCAM, a PURPOSEFUL RIP-OFF sure to sour anyone interested in creating their own DVD library.

Save your money up for something better--Amazon's got LOTS of better machines for $[...] to $[...] more. You know the old saying "don't buy the cheapest tool and don't buy the most expensive one either"? (Okay, so maybe it was just MY Dad that said that). Well, this piece of junk is a perfect example. Sorry to say so! I'm ready to put mine in the trash.

1 out of 5 stars Poor recorder and player........2007-02-14

This thing was a hundred dollars' worth of a headache. DVD-R formatting was always an issue, with the crash at 98% completion that others experienced. Recording wasn't reliable. I ended up using it just as a DVD player, but even that degraded over time. Now it'll play maybe about half the discs I try.

Junk, utter junk. And zero recourse: Cyberhome went out of business last year.

1 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY FROM CYBERHOME!!.......2006-12-29

The unit stopped reading DVDs and started making a loud humming sound after only a few months. It is absolutely useless and there is no customer support whatsoever, even after repeatidly trying to contact them.

1 out of 5 stars Don' buy it.......2006-12-11

Worked for a short while, then stopped recognizing any DVD's. may have something to do with illegal production methods and seizure ny california authoities in June of 2006. No customer support available.

1 out of 5 stars cheap quality.......2006-11-28

unit broke after 6 months. NO apparent support from overseas manufacturer. Research shows that almost all other purchasers of this unit have said it broke anywhere from a few days to several months. Spend a few extra $$ and buy a better unit.
