Amazon.com Product Description
Denon's DVD-1910 DVD player offers first-rate video performance and multiformat media convenience for a surprisingly low price. The player will let you enjoy your recordable CDs filled with MP3 and Windows Media Audio files (including WMA 9) in addition to playing DVD-Video, recordable DVD (video-mode DVD-RW and DVD+R/+RW), and recordable CD configured for digital photo viewing (JPEG image CD, Kodak Picture CD, and Fujicolor CD).
For its video stage, the DVD-1910 employs dual, discrete 54 MHz, 10-bit video digital-to-analog conversion (1 chip each for progressive and interlaced outputs), and its progressive-scan video outputs are powered by Faroudja's FLI-2301 DCDi decoding engine. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts (appreciable on high-definition and HD-ready TVs). A 2 MB memory buffer decreases layer-change pauses or pickup dropouts during DVD playback.
Choose from a set of component-video outputs, standard composite- and S-video outputs, and a cutting-edge digital-video output: DVI-D (with HDCP, High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) with selectable 480p/720p/1080i resolution, another feature that's ideal for HD televisions and monitors, gleaning the best from your favorite discs.
The player uses Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192 kHz audio DACs (PCM-1756) for pristine sound from DVDs and CDs, and both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection with your audio/video receiver.
Other features include anamorphic scaling for 4:3/16:9 sets, zoom control, black-level control (0 and 7.5 IRE), below-black PLUGE on progressive and interlaced outputs, and remote ports for hookup and operation in concert with other Denon equipment.
What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, remote batteries (2 AA), a user's manual, a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, an AC power cord, a service-station list, and a warranty card.

Denon DVD-1910 with 720p/1080i DVI .......2006-11-15
The Faroudja's FLI-2301 DCDi decoding engine is the best I have seen. I currently use my DVD-1910 to feed my 1080p Samsung DLP (converting the DVI to HDMI). The image is super. One quirk noticed is that the image is even better when the player is outputting 720p rather than 1080i. This is most likely do to the TV rather than the player.
The only thing keeping me from awarding 5 stars is the very noticable pause when changing layers. It seems to last quite longer than the other dvd players I have owned.
The best I have owned so far.......2006-02-23
I have owned a few DVD players but this is the one I have been most satisfied with. I replaced a PROSCAN with this one for three reasons:
1- I have a Denon receiver and wanted to get a Denon DVD player to get rid of one remote.
2- Some DVDs don't play well on cheaper players, especially home made movies.
3- I wanted a DVD player that would also play music CDs.
Mission accomplished on all three areas. So far every DVD I have placed in this machine has played. I also noticed a difference in sound quality but I did used a fiber optic cable which is just plain awesome.
I have had this one about one year now and would recommend this to anyone. Especially considering I sold Denon as a college student (years ago) and have always found them to be reliable and good quality during usage.
Great Picture Quality Through DVI But....................2005-04-04
I have used this DVD player for about 3 weeks. I am very amazed on how light the model is. The picture quality is very clear with DVI connection except when watching with a Wide Screen TV it has a *PROBLEM* with Full Screen DVD's. Sense it stretches it out it tries to over compensate which causes the picture to shake very slightly. It's not bad if you are far away but if you get anywhere close to watch it start hurting your eyes. But other than that, it's great. As for me, I can-not stand it, therefore am selling mine.
Denon 1910.......2005-03-19
I bought this player a month ago and couldn't be happier. It plays everything I throw at it and more. I don't use the DVI input but instead SVideo and the picture looks great on my Pioneer Elite 60". The color and detail are great. Load times and layer switchs are slower that other players I've tested but it's not too bad. In reference to the MX-500 remote above, I've "learned" ALL the command from the Denon remote without any problems at all and it works great. Highly reccomended!

I recently bought a home theater projector, and though I originally intended to wait until the next high definition DVD standard (i.e. BluRay) was supported before upgrading my DVD player, the awful scaling artifacts I saw with it made me decide to find a replacement earlier than I had intended.
I first tried the Samsung 841 and overall was pleased with its picture quality using its digital (DVI) output as the feed to my projector. But several mechanical quirks as well as lots of negative feedback on audio/visual news forums (as well as by several Amazon reviewers) convinced me to try the Denon 1910. Well, about the only positive thing I can say about this player is that it has a nice remote. The first problem I noticed with the 1910 was that the picture now looked very washed out. Luckily I remembered reading on an AV forum that this was because the player's black level setting, which artificially brightens the image, is turned on by default. Normally I wouldn't consider something like this to be a major issue, but the fact that I probably never would have figured out on my own how to unset this "feature" (as it is not an option on the video settings menu, but is for some reason accessible only through the hidden-in-a-crowd-of-buttons Mode button) is reason enough to dock this player 1 star.
Even worse, though, and the real reason I advise people to stay away from this player (at least when used with a projector) is that the Denon 1910 suffers from a bad case of what is called macro-blocking, where swirling clouds of brown, purple, and gray rectangles appear on what are supposed to be dark fields. I never had this problem with the Samsung 841, and so decided to return the Denon 1910 the next day. Lots of the reviewers here would disagree with my decision, and perhaps on their display devices the 1910 does work better. But if you have a high-end projector chances are you'll get a better picture relying on its circuitry to do scaling, de-interlacing, etc., and all you want from your player is the ability to cleanly put bits on the wire, which the Samsung 841 seems much better at doing than the Denon 1910.
