Toshiba's SD-P2500 DVD-Video/DVD-Audio player is designed to deliver "no compromise" video and audio performance--for travel or for home theater. The company's second-generation DVD-Audio-equipped portable is distinguished by an 8.9-inch PolySilicon widescreen display whose high-resolution (1,024 x 600 pixel) image is far denser than its closest competitor. The TFT (thin-film-transistor) active-matrix display delivers film-like images rich in detail, color resolution, and contrast.
Besides media versatility (including DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R, MP3/WMA CD, and a host of image formats), the unit offers Toshiba's upgraded Super ColorStream PRO progressive-scan component-video outputs (for use with high-definition and HD-ready TVs) and employs an 10-bit, 54 MHz video digital-to-analog converter to cement the guarantee of stellar image quality. Surface-mounted keypads grant "remote-free" operation of all essential functions, while a sleek, credit-card-sized remote control performs advanced operations.

The SD-P2500 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
Toshiba's Digital Photo Viewer displays images right on a television in a variety of popular formats, including Konica, Fuji Photo, Kodak Photo CD, as well as standard JPEG files--there's even a Secure Digital card slot to further simplify media viewing. An onscreen display walks you through the process of making a slideshows, in which you can preset the viewing time of each slide as well as zoom, rotate, and pan each photo.
Leading-edge 24-bit/192 kHz digital-analog converters from Analog Devices delivers exceptional two-channel DVD-Audio frequency response and dynamic range. DVD-Audio discs deliver high-resolution audio, capturing and reproducing all of the nuances of the original performance and offering high-resolution surround sound as well as stereo. Two built-in headphone jacks let you watch or listen with a partner. Dialogue Expansion improves intelligibility of a disc's center-channel frequencies, while Spatializer N-2-2 ULTRA and Natural Headphone virtual surround sound algorithms simulate surround through two speakers or headphones. The supplied Lithium Ion battery blends seamlessly with the player's cosmetic profile and offers more than three hours of uninterrupted movie or music entertainment. During compact disc and DVD-Audio playback, the SD-P2500's LCD panel can be turned off, extending battery life even further. The SD-P2500 passes both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals through its coaxial-type digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

It doesn't come with a car adapter, but go on ebay and they sell them cheap. Because of the size of the screen it was hard to find a decent case because most of them will only accomidate barely 8 inches. I went to Circuit City and they sell a bag called "Targus" and this bag will do the trick. I even brought my Toshiba 2500 into the store and sized it up. Plus the bag holds extra dvd's and cables, really a good buy and I recommend picking it up because this one switches from a back-of-chair viewing to a suspension between the two front seats.
If you can get your hands on this please do so. I did my homework on portable dvd players for over 6 months and I am proud to say I know I couldn't have done any better.

Not cheap - but I don't mind paying if I get results and the SDP2500 DELIVERS.
Only dissatisfaction is that some of the many, many functions are only available with the remote control. You can certainly do all the basics without the remote - but need it to get fancy.
We love the SDP2500, and never, never travel without it.
