Just the thing for a gift, a bedroom, a rec room, or a space-constrained apartment, Coby's amazingly affordable DVD-202 is little bigger than a hardcover book--perfect for ferrying between the kitchen and the bedroom or hooking it up for periodic use by the kids. While not portable in the traditional sense--the unit has no screen and requires AC power--the DVD-202 is much easier to move around, set-up, and use than a traditional component DVD player.
The DVD-202 handles not only your DVD-Videos (both NTSC- and PAL-formatted discs, depending on your TV), but it plays your music, too--everything from standard CDs to home-burned CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3-encoded CDs.
You get a choice of composite- or S-video outputs, ensuring compatibility with nearly any television and many newer computer monitors. Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a compatible audio/video receiver.
A set of standard left/right RCA analog outputs simplifies hookup with traditional integrated amplifiers and most televisions, and a dedicated monaural RCA subwoofer output lets you enjoy deep-bass sound effects from a DVD soundtrack's ".1" low-frequency effects (LFE) channel when connected directly to a stand-alone powered subwoofer (not included)--no surround receiver is required to enjoy this feature, and you can use it even if you're listening to the primary audio through your TVs's speaker(s).
An onscreen display simplifies setup and operation. Other features include parental controls (with PIN lock), frame-by-frame slow motion, picture zoom (2x, 4x), and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs).
