The Panasonic PVDM2791 is a 27-inch hi-fi stereo TV with a built-in DVD player and VCR, offering the convenience of combined DVD/TV/VCR entertainment in one self-contained easy-to-move-and-use package. The 27-inch-diagonal stereo TV provides brilliant home theater performance, and the built-in DVD/Video CD/CD player and four-Head Hi-Fi VCR let you view DVDs, listen to CDs, and watch VHS videotapes without the need to connect wires among separate components.

Panasonic has included advanced audio features on this unit, such as an advanced virtual surround sound system that creates a surround effect using only two front speakers. The included digital optical outputs provide transmission of digital audio signals to Dolby Digital and DTS decoders, providing six discrete channels of exhilarating digital audio that deliver the ultimate sound experience.

The video features on the PVDM2791 have been designed to give you the clearest, sharpest picture possible from all video sources. The television features a 27-inch PanaBlack picture tube with a two-line digital comb filter that produces superb picture quality. Because it's darker than conventional tubes, The PanaBlack picture tube helps combat the picture-degrading effects of ambient light, so you get a picture with higher contrast and more accurate color reproduction.

The DVD player with multiple DVD viewing options lets you switch between multiple camera angles and up to eight different languages, or with subtitles up to 32 languages. The 4-head hi-fi VCR plays VHS tapes with outstanding picture quality at all tape speeds, and in stereo sound. The VCR also has convenient playback features, such as auto repeat mode, which will automatically rewind the tape when it hits the end and play it back again. The index search, commercial skip, and program-end search allow you to find desired locations on the tape easily and to skip unwanted ads at the touch of a button. The one-month/eight-program timer lets you program shows to record in advance, and with a 181-channel tuner, this TV will provide plenty of recording choices.

The PVDM2791 has been designed for ease of use and expanded functionality. For example, a built-in alarm clock contains a 30/60/90-minute sleep timer, a wake-up alarm, and a video/TV on-timer. And to make things easier, the clock and date are set automatically by receiving the Extended Data Service signal from your local PBS station. With 24-hour backup, it'll always be accurate, even after a power outage. Front audio-video jacks (with one earphone jack) make it easy hook up your camcorder or a second VCR into the TV for playback, and the icon menu system simplifies selecting menu options.

To complete the system, Panasonic has also added an FM radio with auto scan, a nine-preset station memory, and an onscreen display for station confirmation.

The Panasonic PVDM2791 is Energy Star compliant and comes with a universal illuminated remote control, which makes operation easy even in the dark.

Note: It is not possible to record from DVD/Video CD/CD to VHS tape using this unit.

Panasonic offers a warranty of one year on parts and 90 days on labor.

1 out of 5 stars Lemon.......2002-06-23

We bought a Panasonic PV-DM2791, and we finally arranged to exchange for a different model. The worst thing about the TV is the VCR. From the very beginning, it didn't want to accept videotapes. At least 70% of the time, the tapes would "catch," and the VCR would spit them back out. When we finally got the tape into the VCR, it occasionally didn't record properly. It was very loud rewinding and fast-forwarding. Then there was the DVD player, which didn't seem to handle the sound on the DVDs very well. Half the time, we'd have to turn the volume all the way up to the max in order to hear the dialogue. We tried adjusting all the audio settings, but nothing helped.

In short, steer clear of this one... The model we exchanged it for is a Panasonic PV-DM2792, and so far, it's 100% better (not to mention less expensive!).

1 out of 5 stars Too heavy, No warranty.......2002-04-23

I currently own several Panasonic TV's and TV/VCR Combo's and they have been for the most part trouble free. In September 2001 I bought a 27" flat screen TV from Panasonic and it has been nothing but trouble as of April 2002. The major problem has been with support. Yes, I own a good deal of A/V gear including some Pro A/V gear, but the support problem has been with the warranty periods offered by Panasonic on large heavy screen TV's. Don't be fooled by the warranty you see here or at a retail store. The labor is only for 90 days, and they'll charge you big time for labor.

Almost everything I have from Panasonic has been trouble-free, but if you do have a problem, be prepared to throw away and re-purchase because it would cost less than the labor charges.

1 out of 5 stars I'd recommend against.......2002-01-17

I just bought this unit about 2 weeks ago and have been very disappointed. The picture quality is inferior to most other flat-screen TVs. The red colors are oversaturated (Yes, I adjusted the colors), the picture is grainy. And the DVD player is noisy as heck. I wish I'd gone with the Sony flatscreens, which had far better pictures. I was persuaded by the convenience of the triple-play features, which are cool because they save a lot of wiring hassle, but the cons outweigh the pros. If the unit were much cheaper, it might be worthwhile. But aside from using this as a kid's recreation-room unit, I'd veer away.

5 out of 5 stars Great Combo.......2002-01-07

Just picked up the unit yesterday, after some online shopping and research. Was a bit bigger than I wanted (actually using it in bedroom) but the picture was just plain better than the smaller Toshiba TV/DVD combo I saw demo'd with same DVD. The Pluses, everything in one place, no wires/hookups to mess with and as said in other reviews, set up was a snap, the Minuses, very HEAVY unit, if available, would op for an inhome service option. Sound is fine for this type of set (have the home theatre downstairs) and agree that the remote is great. I actually purchased the last one of these at local store, they're being listed as a "close out", if you're interested, would go ahead and purchase now as the replacement is sure to be more money.

5 out of 5 stars It's about time!.......2001-07-12

The consensus around here, especially among TV/VCR repairmen, is that, if you're going to buy a TV/VCR combination, buy Panasonic. Now they've come out with this all-in-one combo! We just love ours. No hook-ups to worry about--just plug it in and play! And the quality - better than the components (Toshiba DVD player, Panasonic VCR) we had (and will now move to the bedroom). Instruction manual is very easy to understand. Explains how to add additional speakers, etc. for home theater Surround Sound. Would recommend very highly.
