Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's PV-D4762 is not only incredibly convenient, but also one of the first combi models to offer a progressive-scan video output, providing top-of-the-line DVD picture quality when used with a high-definition or HD-ready TV.

Video Features
Progressive scanning displays all 480 video lines in one pass, rendering horizontal image lines sequentially rather than interlacing the even lines with the odd. This equals high vertical resolution and flicker-free, high-density images--reason enough to make the HDTV leap. The included S-video and composite-video outputs work just fine with most older TVs. The PV-D4762 plays standard DVD-Video discs and most DVD-Rs (recordable DVDs), from which you can easily make VHS copies of weddings, birthdays, etc. For the VCR, the Commercial Advance lets you hop past three minutes of commercials in about 25 seconds, while Movie Advance scans the beginning of a rental video to skip the previews. The unit's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion (in forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images.

Audio Features
The PV-D4762 is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 audio files. (CD-R/CD-RW playability may vary depending on contents and discs.) It can simulate surround-sound effects using only two speakers, so you'll still be able to appreciate a sense of surround sound even if you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup.

Connections
In the video realm, you get standard composite-video, S-video, and premium component-video outputs for the DVD player (one set each), as well as two sets of composite-video inputs (one on the front and one at the rear) and one RF (cable-type) input and output for the VCR. There's also an optical digital-audio output to feed a surround-sound signal to a Dolby Digital-decoding or DTS-decoding AV receiver. It has stereo RCA analog audio outputs as well. In addition, an illuminated multibrand universal Light Tower remote control is included.

Product Description:
The PV-D4762 Double Feature combination DVD player and four-head, Hi-Fi stereo VCR lets users record a TV program and watch a DVD at the same time. It also plays DVD-R, CDs or home recorded CD-R, CD-RW2, or MP3 recordings. The PV-DV4762 adds progressive scan capability. When connected to a digital-ready television through the component jacks, progressive scan can deliver the very sharpest picture the DVD format has to offer. Other step-up features include Commercial Advance and Movie Advance. Commercial Advance marks the beginning and end of each commercial segment while the VCR is recording. During playback, the system detects the marks and automatically skips over the commercials.Adding to the unit's versatility is a wide array of audio/video jacks, namely: discreet component video output, S-Video output, dual RCA A/V outputs, optical digital output and RF in/out. In short, all the connections you need whether you're doing your viewing on a 5-year old mono TV or a big-screen digital set hooked up to a surround sound system. The deck also includes Dolby Digital and dts outputs for digital 5.1-channel surround.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars WORKED WELL FOR 10 MONTHS.......2004-07-24

I paid $300 this model last year. Within 10 months it stopped working properly. The DVD would play some discs but not others and gave me an error message that made no sense "Check disk to see if dirty." Some of the disks that got this message were right out of the manufacturer's box!! Some disks worked fine, so I thought it must be reacting to an anti-copying coding, or something. Then a few months later, the VCR started to chew up my tapes. I decided to throw the whole unit out. I would not recommend this model. I do not know what is going wrong with Panasonic. Quality control has gone downhill, judging by this unit.

1 out of 5 stars Call it unreliable.......2004-02-10

I putchased a PV-D4762 DVD/VCR deck in June/03. Initially I found the instruction booklet very irritating and difficult to sort out - the layout is very poor, and not well organised at all. The remote is rather unwieldy with alot of buttons - more than necessary. However, it performed the tasks at hand, and as a pioneer in the field of combos it seemed satisfactory. Last week, after owning the machine for 7 months, the DVD player starts giving the message "Please check the Disc, and for stains or scratches on Disc", when it refuses to play. This message made no sense as the disc was brand new. Despite using a "disc cleaner", the problem didnot go away, so the machine is now being looked at with an "authorised dealer". I expected better performance from a machine I paid $279.99 for - certainly more than the limited amount of service I have experienced. Therefore, I cannot recommend this brand.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk.......2003-10-29

I bought this in March 2003. In Sept the DVD quit working. I called Panasonic about it and they wanted me to drive 60 miles to the closest authorized repair facility. Found out the DVD card was broken on it. They would not cover the parts even though it was still under parts warranty. The part was over $200 and that is what I paid for the machine. Panasonic sure is a bunch of junk if things are breaking within six months. I used to buy a lot of Panasonic electronics, but never again.
DO NOT BUY this. You will just have all kinds of problems.

1 out of 5 stars It's Too Clever by Half.......2002-12-06

This device is infuriating. I want to be able to change channels while continuing to record (whatever new channel I change to). It is impossible to do in any practical way. It forces you to quit recording if you want to change channels, overly protecting you from yourself. At the same time, if you run out of tape while recording, it disables numerous functions on the VCR and never gives you any clue as to why. You can't even then display the tape position or counter. You will think your equipment is broken. Finally, it integrates very poorly with the same manufacturer's TV. I would love to get my money back.

5 out of 5 stars Good Transition from VHS to DVD.......2002-11-29

Purchased this unit about two months ago and have loved it. Like many, we were concerned about all the VHS tapes we had collected over the years and we did not want two different units stacking up in the entertainment center. So far, the unit has handled all tapes and DVDs flawlessly. As other reviewers have said, installation was easy. I'm not a high-end videophile, so the comments about it not being a good home entertainment center did not concern me. But we were able to hook it up to a shelf stereo system with two speakers, so we have been able to approximate home theater that way. All in all, very pleased with this purchase.
