Daewoo DVG-9000N Progressive-Scan DVD Player

Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Daewoo's DVG-9000N offers convenient features like a karaoke microphone input, VGA monitor output (for computer-screen viewing), and PAL-NTSC switching (compatible with U.S. and non-region-encoded U.K. DVDs) alongside progressive-scan video for use with the latest HD-ready TVs.

Video features
Topping the DVG-9000N's abilities is progressive-scan playback, in which the unit scans one complete frame at a time (instead of rendering alternating sets of odd and even lines), giving you pristine, flicker-free images on a high-definition or HD-ready television.

Audio features
If your receiver does not process Dolby Digital or DTS but nevertheless sports multichannel analog inputs, you're in luck: the DVG-9000N decodes both 5.1-channel surround-sound formats, so you can still enjoy immersive movie and music mixes. You'll need six analog connections between the player and your receiver, for left, center, right, left and right surround, and the ".1" dedicated subwoofer signal.

Connections
You can forgo analog connections altogether, as the player offers a choice of either optical or coaxial digital-audio outputs, since some surround receivers offer only one or the other (if you have a choice, we recommend the coaxial connection, which will give you slightly better sound).

The DVG-9000N's back panel also offers six-channel analog outputs (use only the ones marked "left" and "right" for analog stereo connections), and four video outputs: standard S-video and composite-video outputs and the three-pronged progressive-scan video and VGA outputs mentioned above for full compatibility with all current televisions.

Other features
The DVG-9000N is karaoke-ready with a front-panel .25-inch microphone input--just plug in and sing along with your favorite CDs or special karaoke CDs and DVDs. The unit is compatible with DVD, VCD, SVCD, CD, and MP3-CD-R/CD-RW.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Daewoo - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT !! - I rate << ZERO >>.......2004-09-17

Even though I bought a DVG-9000N year or so ago I am so disgusted with Daewoo that I am writing this today. I was lured in by the long list of features and rolled the dice. I lost. The unit DIED within a few months. By that time it was out of warranty - a VERY SHORT warranty period - three months or so, I don't recall. I called customer service and after some attitude on the part the rep they were willing to look at the unit for $50.00, plus shipping, plus repair - how nice of them. I decided to not waste any more money with Daewoo so I tossed it out with other household GARBAGE. I will NEVER buy any of their products again. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT !! If it were an option would would rate <<ZERO>> !!!

1 out of 5 stars CD tray does not open.......2003-08-27

I bought this about a year ago, it worked well though I sparingly used it. I created a SVCD with my PC and tried playing it with this player, it got stuck and never ejected out. It does not respond to any command now. I do NOT recommend this product, the design and testing of this product is shoddy.

1 out of 5 stars Broken Down.......2003-06-05

This player seemed like a fine player for the first 8 months. Then it started hesitating to play disks and eventually quit altogther. I opened the case to discover that it was not spinning the disk. I hoped it was just a motor but the problem seems to originate from the circuit board. If you've already bought this player then hopefully it serves you well. If not then consider paying a little extra for a more reliable brand such as JVC, or SHARP which are the two most reliable names in electronics.

1 out of 5 stars failed after 10 months and poor warranty and support.......2003-01-20

I bought this after hearing the wonderful
review about this unit. It failed after
10 months. When I called Deawoo technical support,
she asked me to power-off the unit and turn -ON
after 1/2 hour. I did that, but no luck.
However, after couple of days, it started to work,
but it failed again. I am an electronics engineer, so to me,
it appears that they do not have a reliable product.

In addition, they do not have a good customer/technical support.
They took my name and phone no. and promised me to call
me back and I have not heard from them. It was two
months ago, now my warranty for parts is also going to expire.

1 out of 5 stars Beware! Not All DVG-9000N's Have VGA Output.......2003-01-15

I am trashing the DVG-9000N for one reason: the Daewoo DVG-9000N is advertised as having a VGA output and some of the DVG-9000N's mysteriously don't have the VGA capability. The Owners Manual for the DVG-9000N on Daewoo's own web site describes the DVG-9000N as having a VGA output and shows an HD-15 plug on the back but the DVG-9000N delivered to me did not have VGA out or the HD-15 plug. Daewoo's reps in New Jersey, though they were courteous and friendly and promptly returned my call, had no expanation for this feature deletion. Daewoo really ought to change model numbers or otherwise specify when it takes away a feature from a product so consumers will know what they are getting.
