Amazon.com Product Description
Whether you currently have HDTV capabilities or you're merely thinking of "someday," the RP82S stands ready to deliver. Progressive scanning (referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image) creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

This full-featured DVD player supports standard DVD-Videos, ultra-high-resolution DVD-Audio (for music in stereo and surround sound), DVD-RAM, CD-R/CD-RW, and both MP3 and WMA playback and navigation. The player also offers multiple-format video outputs, including stunning progressive-scan video for use with an HD or HD-ready set. Cinema Mode cuts down glare and improves color resolution in a darkened living room, Quick Replay jumps back seven to 10 seconds, variable zoom converts any widescreen image to full screen on a 4:3 aspect-ratio TV (eliminating the black bands at the top and bottom of the screen).

DVD-Audio discs provide multichannel and stereo sound, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. Because the DVD-Audio signal is too high-resolution for the digital-to-analog converters in current surround receivers (and also as an anti-piracy measure), the RP82S performs its own decoding of DVD-Audio signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs. If you only have stereo speakers and don't want to make the jump to surround sound, the RP82S's dedicated subwoofer output will let you enjoy those dinosaur stomps and timpani rolls to the fullest with but one additional speaker (see all subwoofers).

For connections, you get the works: standard composite-video, S-video, and premium component-video outputs. The latter can be switched to deliver either 480i or 480p (progressive-scan) video. The player also has a single set of stereo RCA analog-audio outputs and an optical digital-audio output to feed stereo audio to a CD recorder or Dolby and DTS to your surround receiver.

Product Description:
Have a seat. You're about to enter the digital dimension. Inside the DVD-XP30, you'll find a digital Cinema Mode that combines brightness control with picture noise canceling. The result is an image that appears in just seconds. And from the comfort of your chair, you can adjust the picture on your screen. The Re-master function digitally converts standard 44.1-kHz/16-bit CD signals to 88.2-kHz/24-bit so sound quality approaches that of DVD-Audio. And built-in DTS and Dolby Digital provide channel surround sound that will blow back your hair. It's like going to the movies or a big concert without ever leaving your home. That's the digital dimension.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Better than I could have imagined!.......2002-10-08

It took about 3 weeks of research and comparison, but I finally decided on this deck for my DVD player. The list of features is amazing, it has everything you could possibly want from a DVD player. It is also a very nice looking deck, with a mirrored front and a slim design, it looks great on the rack! Besides the looks and features, the performance is what really sets this deck apart. I demoed MANY decks in this price range, and even some more expensive, and I have yet to see a picture comparable to the RP82S. It even makes my older Sony Trinitron look like a million bucks! The only drawback is the remote, with its' small buttons and awkward layout. Oh well, I guess not everything can be prefect, but in the competitive world of DVD decks, the RP82S comes pretty close.
