Magnavox MDV530VR DVD/VCR Combo

Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Watch movies from VHS tape or from high-quality component-video DVD playback, view digital-image slideshows, listen to audio CDs with crystal-clear sound, or play your homemade MP3 CDs through your living-room speakers--all from one affordable, space-saving device. The Magnavox MDV530VR also lets you record off-air in hi-fi stereo sound and watch your camcorder or hook up your gaming console through its convenient front-panel audio/video inputs. Picture-CD functionality includes one-by-one playback and image zoom.

The VCR's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. Its 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode. VCR Plus+ simplifies advance programming, and SQPB (quasi-S-VHS playback) lets you watch S-VHS tapes, which normally requires a special S-VHS VCR, at standard VHS resolution. Other features include timer recording, auto head cleaning, auto repeat playback (great for trade shows and presentations), time and index search, and one-touch recording.

Connections with combo units are often inconvenient, forcing you to use separate video hookups for each section (DVD, VCR), a problem for some TVs. This player has it figured out: a single RF or composite-video connection to a television will display either the DVD or the VCR signal, depending on which format you're viewing. If you want to view DVDs in S-video or in component-video, you'll need to use two separate inputs for DVD player and VCR, however, as the device will not upconvert the signal from the VCR to either of those higher-resolution formats.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel DVD/VCR audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions, and there's a second stereo pair for DVD-only analog out. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output (DVD-only) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: the unit simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).

What's in the Box
DVD player/VCR combo, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and RF audio/video cable.

Product Description:
This DVD/VCR combines a Digital Video Disc (DVD) Player and a Hi-Fi Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) into one unit, letting you play DVDs, Audio Compact Discs (Audio CDs), and Video Cassettes on one piece of equipment.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars DVD failed in less than 6 months.......2006-10-23

DVD Disc Error after less than 6 months; DVD player is now completely unusable. Remote control is very confusing and the unit, as a whole, seems to lack any coherent or logical flow. On the plus side it is cheap, but you get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 stars This isn't the only model with problems.......2006-07-17

Since the model mrv700vr/17 isn't available on Amazon, I'm adding my review to this Magnavox VCR/DVD combo unit, which from the pucture looks exactly like mine with the VCR and DVD slots switched sides.

Don't but Magnavox. This unit was rec'd as a Xmas present and it's too late to return it now, as we didn't realize the problem was with the unit till after the 30 days were up. The DVD simply does not work reliably. Every 2nd or 3rd DVD I try to play does not work, although they play just fine in other DVD players and even my Playstation2. I'm talking brand-new, unmarred store-bought DVDs, like Munich, The Cave, Deadwood Season Two Vols 1, 3 and 4, many many others, all of which played without a hitch in my other players. It has behaved this way from day one, but I at first thought it was faulty discs. I've searched my model number and found many customer horror stories relating to the quality of Magnavox DVD players and their worthless customer support, so I'm not even going to bother contacting them. I don't need to be yelled at by some cust. serv. rep because I have the temerity to attempt to get a replacement for their faulty product.

I have learned a lesson. Do not ever buy Magnavox DVD players. Ever. Hell, don't bother with the TVs either - my Magnavox 27" turned green after 4 years. Right now I'm watching my 23 year-old Quasar till I get the new one, and the color is fine.

1 out of 5 stars THIS PRODUCT IS A SCAM!!!! PLEASE DON"T BUY THIS OR ANYTHING FROM MAGNAVOX.......2005-12-17

PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS. We are thinking of filing a class action law suit and we are DEFINITLY reporting Magnavox to the Better Business B. We got this item and it worked fine, but then the DVD player would click in the middle of movies and stop playing. It was AWFUl and this was only after a couple months, if that. We returned it (AT OUR EXPENSE!) to Magnavox, they replaced it. After 2 weeks, THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON THE REPLACEMENT!!! We called them and they said they can't do anything since the warrenty was up by a couple months, even though the warrenty was from the FIRST DVD player, not the second one! We were shocked. My husband gave them hel& for about 1/2 hour and all they could say was "sorry for the inconvience" and didn't offer ANYTHING to make up for our time, money, effort and complete waste of time. THIS IS A SCAM and they know what they are doing. DO NOT BUY THIS AND PLEASE LET"S START THE BOYCOTT AND LAWSUITS!

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk.......2005-07-17

After deciding to buy my first DVD player in 2003, I wanted to get one with a vcr with it. I owned a Magnavox vcr at the time and that one lasted me over 10 years so I figured the new one would serve me well too. Well BIG mistake, reading all these other reviews I see I was not the only one disappointed. Not even a year it would not play DVD's anymore. (And I only played maybe 20 dvd's in that year) Told me that playback feature is not available on that disc. EVERYONE OF THEM. Soon after that It started to eat my video tapes, recording them and playing them. Even after rewinding them it would come out chewed up. I will never buy a Magnavox again. I feel cheated out of $200, and wish I would of read these reviews before I bought this POS. I replaced that Magnavox with a generic less expensive player, and so far I'm happy with the results. I'm done with Magnavox.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.......2005-04-09

Shame on me for not doing my homework first or at least reading these reviews prior to purchasing a machine. A short time after having this dual VCR/DVD we encountered problems. Of course it started after the huge 90-day warranty period. We encountered jammed/torn up tapes and new movies in the VCR slot, blinking errors and a load humming like that of a 747 jet. We tried getting it fixed three times from an independant store w/ no luck. Like they say you can't polish ______. Magnavox agreed to send us another DVD/VCR for $100. No thanks. Do not waste your $$, buy another brand - this one is a true junker. Try Sony or another reputable brand - I have had good luck w/ Panasonic.
