Amazon.com Product Description
The KiSS (Keep it Simple Solutions) DP-608 networkable DVD player does it all: it plays DVD movies, of course, but it also fields disc-based music and digital photos alongside streaming content from your PC--not to mention it's outfitted with an 80 GB hard drive for immediate media access at any time, even when your computer and broadband modem are powered off completely. For streaming content, hook up the DP-608 via a wired Ethernet connection or take advantage of its WLAN wireless 802.11g capability and skip the cable hookup between your PC (wherever it is) and the DVD player.

The versatile DP-608 plays DivX video, MP3 files, WMA files, JPEG digital photos, and Windows Media Video 9 (WMV9) files--including video on demand. You can connect the DP-608 directly to the Internet via a broadband connection or through a network (LAN) with a PC whose media contents can be read using the supplied KiSS PC-Link software. Powered by the Sigma Designs EM8500 decoder chip, the player itself reads DVD-Video (PAL and NTSC) as well as DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs.

The DP-608's support for DivX, ISO MPEG-4, XviD, and WMV9 video-compression formats gives you the ability download full-screen, full-motion videos from the Internet that look and sound close in quality to what you get from your television or DVD player. Audio compatibility extends to the open-source Ogg Vorbis format for music compression (slightly higher quality than MP3 for a same-sized file).

The player's sizeable hard disk holds up to 116 Internet-sourced DivX films, somewhere on the order of 16,000 128 kbps MP3 music files, or about 200,000 JPEG image files. All these files are easily accessible through a user-friendly list displayed on the TV screen. (Just be sure to organize your files in folders--there's nothing user-friendly about a list numbering in the hundreds of thousands.) You can even use the Ethernet connection to ferry your media between your PC and the DP-608.

To enjoy the player's networking abilities, you'll need to install and run the KiSS PC-Link software (PC only, Windows 98 or higher). With PC-Link, all you have to do is select the files and you want to view and they'll be routed to your DP-608 and on to your television for viewing in any connected location.

The player can also deliver Internet radio. Just select this feature from the player's WebRadio menu and you'll have access to a few thousand streaming radio stations you can enjoy right in the comfort of your living room. Once you've registered, WebRadio will let you choose, customize, and add as many radio stations as you wish.

Whether or not your living room is currently home to an HDTV, the DP-608 is ready to deliver the full potential of your uncompressed, commercial DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Outputs include component, composite-, and S-video connections, a coaxial digital-audio jack (for passing Dolby Digital and DTS surround signals to a compatible audio/video receiver), and even analog RCA outputs for decoded Dolby Digital surround (in case your AV receiver offers multichannel analog inputs but no digital processing).

KiSS will continue to update the player's firmware with improvements based on the latest research and development; the updates will be available from the support section of the kiss-technology.com Web site.

Product Description
The new KiSS DP-608 is based on the KiSS DP-508 DVD with full DivX®, XviD, MPEG-4, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, JPEG... playback, Ethernet and a built-in 80GB Hard Disk for storage. On top of these functions the DP-608 adds playback for two new formats from Microsoft: WMA and Windows Media 9 files allowing Video On Demand. These new features put the KiSS DP-608 in the middle of the home-computer-cinema solution. Thanks to its Ethernet connection, enabling Kiss PC-Link, the Kiss DP-608 can stream Audio/Video/Picture files found on a connected PC. The connection can also be done wireless with a PC Card and Access Point (sold separately), as the DP-608 also has a PC Card slot on its back. It provides an 802.11g wireless connection to the player which permits the streaming for video files. Those network connections also enable KiSS Web Radio to be played from the DP-608, if this one is connected to a broadband Internet connection. KiSS PC-Link gives the user the possibility to store Audio/Video/Picture content on its optional 80GB or 120 GB Hard Disk. This content can then be viewed or browsed from the player. This gives the advantage of having a collection of multimedia files all stored on the KiSS DVD Player... at a finger tip. As all the other KiSS DVD Players, the DP-608 is also firmware upgradeable.
