The 23PF5320 has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 140-degree horizontal and 125-degree vertical viewing angles, 16 ms (millisecond) response time, a 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and a 450:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The remote's Auto Picture button enables one-touch selection of various preset optimized image settings to suit different TV program. The Auto Sound function provides pre-defined sound settings for ultra bass, bass, treble and balance for the optimum audio performance. Other features include an anti-reflection coated screen, auto volume leveler, sleep timer, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image.

This TV has two built-in stereo speakers that produce 5 watts per channel (for 10 watts of total power). Philips' Incredible Surround audio technology dramatically magnifies the sound field to immerse you in the audio. Using state-of-the-art electronic phase shifting, Incredible Surround mixes sounds from left and right in such a way that it expands the virtual distance between the two speakers. This wider spread greatly enhances the stereo effect and creates a more natural sound dimension--without the use of additional speakers.

It includes a DVI-D input for uncompressed digital RGB connection from source to screen. By eliminating the conversion of the digital signal to analog, it delivers an unblemished image. Thanks to the non-degraded signal, you get less flicker and a clearer picture. The DVI input is fully backward compatible with HDMI sources, and also uses HDCP copy protection. Poor service from philips.......2007-05-29

MY tv needed repair and i was told to shipped it to arkansas which cost me $46.I did on april 24. i receive a refub on mAY7.It worked for 5 min. i shipped it back may8. Philips did pay for the shipping but as of MAY 28 i am still waiting for a replacement.I was told they should know something by JUNE

Great TV, Terrible Customer Support.......2007-05-15

This is a great television for its size. The closed captioning is a bit difficult to read due to the font size. The remote control is a bit small. The colors associated with the predefined picture settings are not great, needs to be adjusted.
My original set was defective near the end of the first year under warranty. The customer support is terrible, spent on the average of 50 minutes on at least 3 occasions. The first set (Day 1 thru Day 20), Philips screwed up the address. The second set (Day 21 thru Day 40), FedEx delivered to the wrong address. The third set (Day 41 thru Day 50), was refurbished and defective (would not turn on, gone through troubleshooting with Customer Support). After the frustration and aggravation with Customer Support, my case was escalated to Consumer Relations. The individual in Consumer Relations stated that Philips will pick up the cost to ship the defective third set back to them and offered a buyback. Despite a satisfactory resolution and a great television, Philips Customer Support is disappointing, a customer will be told 15-20 days for a replacement set to be ordered and sent. Hopefully my experience with Customer Support was an isolated incident.

Philips 23PF5320 23" Flat Panel Widescreen LCD TV. .......2007-03-13

I picked this model up over the weekend for $499, after researching for a good six months. We already own a 34" HD widescreen Panasonic that we use in the living room. Needed something smaller and less expensive for the bedroom.
My review is based on using the set over the weekend. I will update if warrented in a few weeks.
The set is a flat panel LCD, very attractive. Setup was fairly easy and intuitive. I have mine hooked up to an HD Cable box using component cables, and a standard set of audio cables. The manul does not make it clear, but the coax-in is located on a detachable cover on the rear side of the TV. I do not use the provided remote, as I programmed cablevision's remote to change channels & volume.
As for PQ, there are several pre-set modes and one "personal" mode. The "personal" mode lets you choose your desired PQ settings for bightness, color, contrast, and Tint. I find the presets to push way too much red, and way too bright. I used my own settings and will calibrate with my DVE disk down the road.
The audio is good, with adjustments available for bass and treble. HOWEVER, I cannot change the tint as it is grayed out on the screen. I called Phillips this morn, and they told me I have to disconnect the cable box to make the adjustments. Will try that tonight. All in all, I am happy with the set so far. Hope the tint issue can be resolved.

Great little flat panel, I am completely satisfied.......2007-02-07

We bought this for our small Brooklyn loft. Our bedroom is 10x12, and this is the perfect size for the space. With LCD prices dropping, I was tempted to get a 32" Samsung 52 series, but this TV is less than half the price. For my needs a 32" would actually be too big, since we can't get far enough away from it to see the picture clearly. So, for a smaller TV you have the choice between the 26" models and this. I could not justify the $700-$800 price of the 26" over this model. When you look at them in a store (J&R here in NYC), the 23" and 26" seems to be almost the same size.

I use an HDMI->DVI cable to connect a Panasonic DVD player and analog audio connections for sound. I have the DVD player set at 1080i output. We use this exclusively for watching DVDs since we don't get cable or any TV channels. The picture has good color and action movies look fine with no blur or choppiness/hesitation. I did notice some minor artifacts when watching a very dark movie ("The Illusionist"). Also, in dark scenes you can see some light bleeding at the edges of the panel. These are minor quibbles that I expected from an LCD in this price range. The sound from the TV is fine as long as you aren't too picky. Overall, I would highly recommend this TV.

PS: don't be a sucker for overpriced HDMI cables (like Monster), the cheapies work fine. There is Philips-branded HDMI to DVD cable on Amazon that is pleasant looking and less than 20 bucks.
