The 20-inch Sylvania 6620LF4 LCD TV is a great choice for smaller rooms, like the kitchen or den. And because it's EDTV-ready (Enhanced Definition TV) as well as for watching flicker-free, vibrant imagery from DVD movies. It's capable of displaying not only television signals in 480p (480-pixel progressive, with optional tuner), but also from video sources such as progressive-scan DVD players. This offers a far better resolution and picture than playing a DVD through an interlaced video screen from a standard CRT set.

The 6620LF4 has a 640 x 480-pixel resolution, 4:3 standard aspect ratio, 170-degree horizontal viewing angle, 16 ms (millisecond) response rate, 500 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and a 500:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The 3-line digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

It comes with an integrated stand in the back that folds into the TV to enable wall mounting (with optional hardware). It includes built-in stereo speakers that produce 1 watt per channel (for 2 watts of total power). It provides the following connections:

Styling and Quality Make This One a Loser.......2006-03-07

Somehow the engineers at Sylvania managed to make an LCD television look like my grandfathers black and white TV - complete with chrome sticker, two tone finish, and bare-bones remote control. I would tolerate this and call it "retro" if the picture quality was good. Unfortunately the picture is very grainy and is much brighter at the edges. As much as I hate returning electronics, this will be going back. Last time I buy a TV without seeing the picture quality in person.

I was very surprised at how good this set looks and sounds considering the $299 price, including shipping. Saw the same set at Walmart for $100 more. My only complaint is a remote with the commonly used buttons in places that do not make sense and aren't easily gotten used to.

Great TV and a great price!.......2006-02-28

We paid a lot more (than the $299 sale price at the time of this writing) and we actually don't feel bad about it at all. The picture quality is quite nice watching regular old cable TV, and I get great color when I watch DVDs using the component input. The speakers sound adequate, especially for a smaller room (it's our bedroom television, and it's wall-mounted and very space conscious). Overall, it's a great quality unit.

Two caveats:

1) When you get your new TV, turn it on and find an image or scene that is dark. If you see bright, white edges, as if the backlight were bleeding around the edge of the picture, you should consider exchanging it as we did (it will make the picture look washed out). The floor models we looked at before making our final purchase decision had SOME amount of this "bleeding" effect, but if it's really bright (you'll know it when you see it), then you should exchange it as we did with our first unit. Otherwise, expect some amount of white light at the edges, but it should not interfere with the picture. The second unit was BEAUTIFUL!

2) The remote control unit leaves something to be desired. Get a universal or, like we do, use your TiVo remote control. Our Series 2 TiVo with built-in DVD even swaps TV inputs and runs the DVD player, so you really don't need the remote that comes with it except to access the TV's menu (picture settings, etc.).

All in all, we're very pleased with the purchase. Nice job, Sylvania!
