The 15-inch Samsung LN-R1550 is a great multi-tasker for the bedroom or home offices, offering the ability to watch enhanced definition television as well as use it as a PC monitor. The dual purpose pedestal stand can also be used as an articulating wall mount when itÕs folded back. Additionally, the stand can be removed for wall-mounting via optional VESA compatible hardware. Designated as an EDTV, the LN-R1550 displays signals in 480-line progressive (480p) mode, and can also accept 480p signals from video sources such as progressive-scan DVD players. While an EDTV doesn't have enough pixels for a true high-definition resolution, the difference is surprisingly small.

This set has a 1024 x 768-pixel resolution, 4:3 standard aspect ratio, 25ms (millisecond) response time, 450 cd/m2 brightness rating, and 400:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It also offers 150-degree horizontal and 120-degree vertical viewing angles.

Perfect size for my desk.......2007-01-05

For what I use this TV for it's perfect. It's small, has a small footprint which is perfect because it's on my desk. The closed caption doesn't turn off when the volume is being adjusted which doesn't happen on any of my other TV's. The picture & sound are fine and the headphone jack on the front is also nice. A nice bonus happened this week when my computer monitor died so I was able to hook up this TV to my computer and function. It was well worth the money.

NEVER AGAIN.......2006-11-25

I used the 15" 3 times when 1/4 of the pixels went out. I contacted the company to no avail. No help, no response, no resolution. I will never buy a Samsung product EVER again and will tell everyone I know. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE- NO- NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I had to give it one star. 0 was not an option.

The tv performs as expected - the picture is great and the sound is good. The only problem I have had is that occasionally the sound will stop and I have to turn the tv off and then on again. Not often enough to be a big problem, just so long as it doesn't get worse.

Not too SHARP..........2006-01-13

I originally purchased the LN-R1550 because I liked the fact that it could perform the functions of a tv AND a monitor. Right out of the box, however, my first impression was that it looked too much like a monitor rather than a tv. It's hard to tell from the web pictures, but this "tv" is just a Samsung monitor with an awkward speaker panel attached to the back and sides - not the look I was going for when I purchased for the kitchen.

Picture quality. I must say that the picture quality, when connected to a DVD player was very good. But, as I mentioned, this tv was to live in the kitchen connected to a whole-home video distribution setup via plain old coaxial cable. The satellite picture looked lousy. I even tied it into the receiver with regular RCA cables and it looked no better. These were the same cables that I used when connecting the DVD player (and that picture looked crisp). This last fact is the only reason that I give the tv 3 stars rather than 2.

The small size of this LCD makes it a great candidate for the kitchen. But, kitchen set-ups usually involve coaxial cable. So, the awkward design and poor coax picture forced me to abandon this particular Samsung. During my pre-purchase research, I had been contemplating between this Samsung and the 13" Sharp Aquos. I originally went with the Samsung because it was 2" larger. In this case - in the kitchen - size isn't such a huge deal. I returned the Samsung and got the Sharp. Boy, what a difference!

Not only did the Sharp have a better picture over coax, but it just looks so much more intelligently designed. All the contour lines flow so elegantly. The pictue was better and brighter. I think that the Samsung actually had better depth of sound, but - again - in the kitchen it's not such a huge deal. The smaller size actually was a better fit for the kitchen, too.
