Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
SVA's VR-30 boasts a spacious, 30-inch LCD screen with razor-sharp images, an internal NTSC tuner for convenient broadcast-television viewing, and a 1,280 x 768 (WXGA) native pixel resolution. Image quality is enhanced by a high (350:1) contrast ratio, an exceptional peak brightness of 450 candles/square meter, and wide (170 x 170 degrees) viewing angles. The stereo set pumps 5 watts per channel through its discrete speakers, which flank the screen.

The VR-30 is EDTV and HDTV capable, meaning it accepts both 480i interlaced (standard resolution, as from VCRs and cable boxes) 720p from an HDTV source and 480p progressive-scan video signals from DTV set-top decoders and DVD players, and it also offers a built-in NTSC tuner for convenient broadcast-TV viewing.

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

Set the VR-30 on a desk using the supplied stand, or mount it on the wall for cool styling and maximum space efficiency.

What's in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, an AC adapter, AC power cord, audio and video cables (stereo analog audio and composite-, component-, and S-video), desk stand, and a user's manual.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Warning--Do not buy an SVA TV.......2006-05-03

I bought the SVA VR-30 LCD Flat panel less than a year ago. About 10 months after owning it there were thousands of green pixels that appeared over anything dark on the picture. This would come and go but progressively got worse. When I called SVA customer service to have someone come out and look at my TV, while still under warranty, I was rudely informed by their "customer service" department that they only have technicians in La Brea, CA. and no one would be coming to service my TV. Instead I was expected to pay to pack it and ship it out to La Brea, CA. FROM NY. This cost me $219.35. They were not going to pay for the shipping and made a point of telling me if nothing was wrong with my TV, after their inspection, that I was also going to have to pay to ship it back. So, I ship it out and pay the $. Well, big surprise... they claim there is nothing wrong with my TV and now I have to pay them to ship it back to me. ARE YOU KIDDING? Pay $438.70 to get back a TV with green pixels everywhere? This is the worst customer service I have experienced in my life with any product EVER. They refused to give me the name/address of anyone other than the two condescending rude individuals that you get when you call on the phone. When I pointed out that on amazon.com it states that they will service my TV in MY HOME they blamed that on amazon.com. Yet, 3 months later they are still in the section with in home service for large TVs. Do Not Buy This TV nor anything from SVA unless you enjoy paying for products that don't work and being treated as if you are the one in error. I'm buying a Sony tomorrow. I will never buy a SVA product again.

4 out of 5 stars Get a free 42" Plasma TV instead!.......2006-04-19

4 out of 5 stars Very very good!.......2006-02-25

I bought this TV with the intent to replace a 27" tube TV in the bedroom. Right out of the box I was pleased with the purchase and I am glad I bought it.

Although I was concerned with an Internet purchase of an LCD TV, I have always had good results with NewEgg.com and the TV came in perfect working condition with no issues. At first I heard a little popping during the first day of use, but I remembed the old Sharp 30" that I used to own had the same issue out of the box. Essentially, it's just the break-in period for the LCD display.

The picture quality is great, easily rivaling the 42" Panasonic Plasma in the Living Room in quality, and both DVD and VHS look great on it.

My only hangup is the Component Video which seems to only come out Red. Yes it still works and I have tried two very good Monster Component Video cables with the same result and I am certain that I am hooking the cable up correctly. I haven't tried another DVD player and I must admit that the cheap Desay DVD player I am trying to use may be the culprit and not the TV itself. So although I give it 4 stars because it can't work with the Desay DVD player, if it turns out to work with my other DVD player when I move it into the bedroom then I can easily say 5 stars.

Good job, SVA.
