Customer Reviews:
Finally, it works!.......2004-12-02
Samsung provided free shipment of this model for repair. It took only a week to get it back. That was almost 6 months ago. I was able to watch the summer Olympic Games in full HDTV glory! I just hooked up an Xbox for kids to play. The video game graphics of this thing is awesome! Samsung customer service was very helpful. I'm glad I've kept a copy of the free two-year warranty offer when I bought this lcd tv. The repair was nothing major. The power source had just needed to be replaced. If you ever had problems similar to mine, check to see if you could just replace the power source of your tv or call Samsung if yours is still covered by the warranty.
Same problem.......2004-10-12
After 13 months the bottom 1/3 of the screen began to dim everytime the TV is on for 40 minutes. Amazing since the warranty is 12 months. Haven't tried to fix it yet. just will deal with it, I don't feel like dishing out more money. Besides that the picture is great.
An update.......2004-04-17
Hi again. I thought I would write an update to my review. Since then I built a new computer and I have a graphics card that supports 1280x720. It looks really good in both windows and linux. I haven't had as many problems with part of the screen dimming lately, but it still happens sometimes. I just read that review the guy wrote about his breaking down after 15 months.. I've had mine for 11 and I'm thankful it still works. It's not the worst experience I've had with equipment, but it's close. I paid like $1800 for this tv, which is less reliable than one of those tvs you can get at k-mart for $100. That is what really makes me mad about this product. The tv is pretty good as long as it works, but I never plan on buying another samsung product, especially if this one ends up dying on me after 15 months. Just don't even buy this tv. If you're going to buy a tv like this... do it from some place where you can get a warranty. I don't think Samsung even wanted you to know there was a warranty at all. It's on some boring looking sheet of paper that is easy to lose or throw away. It's not mentioned in the manual. I can only imagine what the support is like for this tv. Good luck to anyone who has one of these expensive bricks.
4 Stars when it works - Mine only last 15 months.......2004-03-17
I had a Samsung LTM225W for 15 months and then it just went bad. (I replaced the power convertor to no avail). I'm now dealing with Samsung's extremely poor 12 month warranty offering. I've had TV last 20 years on me and now the most expensive TV I've ever bought didn't last 2 years! I'm very frustrated. If you buy Samsung products, consider getting an extended warranty plan since Samsung doesn't stand very firmly behind their products.
Bleh........2003-10-27
In all honesty.. I was expecting more from this tv. I read about it some and heard about all the great features, great resolution and all that. I thought it'd be nice to have a HDTV monitor for my computer and video games. The biggest thing I didn't realize was the computer resolution. I thought "wow 1280x720 that's great" .. however.. it wasn't until I got the tv that I realized what a strange resolution 1280x720 is. I have a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP gfx card in my computer and I didn't really think that it might not support 1280x720, and well.. surely enough it doesn't. My old 15" LCD monitor could do 1024x768, which is a pretty nice resolution. I didn't really think about the big tv not being able to do that resolution, but surely enough it doesn't. My gfx card does support 960x720 though.. which looks terrible.. the fonts in windows weren't made for it at all. In all simplicity, I'm stuck in an 800x600 world. On top of that I really thought the PIP looked nice with that split screen thing (most tvs don't have large enough PIP for it to be useful). It isn't very apparent until you get the tv that the PIP is very limited. There is one size PIP for the PC mode and you can only do your Antenna or Video (maybe s-video too) in it.. and you can only have the smallest size window. If you're buying this tv because you want it for a computer monitor, or even half way because of that, think twice. I will admit I have my xbox hooked up to the HDTV and it is absolutely FABULOUS. This doesn't really have to do with the tv but if you're looking into this tv for HDTV on your PS2, think twice. I bought hdtv cables for it and many games DID NOT WORK. The cables don't work at all with psx and with ps2 only some games worked, and most that did looked like crap. That's not a problem with the tv, but if that's your main use for the tv the tv won't be very valuable (though games still look good with s-video or normla RCA cables..) Oh and another big beef I had against this tv is there is NO AUDIO OUT. I read through the manual and it talks about hooking up to a stereo system, but it's saying to hook them up to the audio in places.. and there is no audio out.. so don't be looking to have surround sound and tv sound at the same time. Also, I've had my tv for about 5 or 6 months now, and sometimes the bottom 1/3 of my screen dims out some. I've taken VERY good care of my monitor and while it has had some accidental touches (grr @ stupid people), I don't feel that was enough to have the tv doing this. Whether they all break down like this or it's just mine I'm not sure, but that other guy seemed like he had some problems too. I wish now I had spent $1800 on a really nice computer monitor instead of this semi-worthless tv. I can't imagine any of ya'll buying it for that $2000+ price.. yeesh.
