Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's PT-50LC14 practically writes the book on home-theater excitement. This high-definition liquid-crystal projection TV offers a perfectly flat, 50-inch display in a widescreen (16:9) dimension that's perfect for viewing DVDs and DTV movies in their native aspect ratios. The set is equipped with a total of 13 separate inputs, including 4 component-video inputs, a HDMI digital video input for a direct-digital connection with a DTV set-top box, and 2 PC inputs capable of VGA, SVGA, or compressed XGA resolution (1 rear, 1 front). A handy PCMCIA/SD Memory Card slot lets you hook up your computer for viewing a digital photo slide show.

The set offers a native resolution of 1,280 x 720 alongside high, 400 cd/m2 brightness ensures vivid, exacting images from DVD players and other devices. What's more, Panasonic's Progressive Scan Doubler will upconvert standard interlaced (non-progressive) broadcast and auxiliary signals to flicker-free, 480p resolution.

The PT-50LC14 is considerably less bulky than most rear-projection televisions and consumes less energy. Further, LCD displays don't suffer from misconvergence or flicker, like their CRT counterparts. The Panasonic multimedia display incorporates thin-film transistor (TFT) technology, also known as active matrix, to improve color reproduction, eliminate ghosting, and boost response speed.

Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view 2 programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right.

Movie sources get their due with Panasonic's 3:2 pulldown reversal feature, Progressive Cinema Scan. This enhancement compensates for motion artifacts that sometimes result from the telecine process that's used to convert film's 24-frames-per-second to an NTSC-friendly 60 frames per second. Other picture-enhancing features include horizontal and vertical edge correction and a motion-adaptive 3D Y/C digital comb filter, which eliminates "hanging dots" and color rainbow effects in closely spaced patterns.

The set's 2-way stereo speakers are powered by 15 watts per channel, and BBE ViVA HD3D Sound makes sure every program sounds its fullest and liveliest.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link the set with any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars No Problems with my PT-50LC14.......2007-01-08

This being the first widescreen/lcd/big screen tv I have ever bought, all I had to go on was reviews I found on the internet. At the time, I was pretty much a neophyte when it came to tv's this big. But, nevertheless, I liked it and I bought it. (along with the extended warranty, cause just in case). Ok...So, I have had has this TV about 14 months. And, well I absolutely love it. I haven't blown any bulbs or ballasts or switches or anything. I use it for the following: PC Gaming, PS2 and Gamecube, HDTV, VCR and the list goes on. I have never had any problems whatsoever. I have three teenage kids that use it all the time between gaming and internet and scary movies. This TV has been left on overnight on many cases and my useage can best described as more than average. We use it alot. As for all the horror stories I have read, I hope that I do not encounter any myself. In comparison, I also have a 42 in Samsung DLP and while the DLP does have a much better picture. I tend to use my Panasonic more, simply because it is bigger and I can't really tell the difference between the two. And yes I use the HDMI cables for both and I still prefer the Panasonic. Simply Put, I LOVE MY PANANSONIC and when it dies I will replace the bulb and cross my fingers...

p.s. I have had many many many people over the house and I have never ever had anyone say anything negative about my TV. Everyone just loves it.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!!! $300-$900 PER YEAR TO OPERATE.......2006-12-28

We had no Idea that this TV would cost us $300-900 per year to operate. Panasonic should be ashamed of the way they have dealt with consumers who have purchased this and many more of these TV's. I don't know of anywone who would go out and purchase a TV knowing that it was going to cost them this much in maintenance to operate each year. We will never again purchase any Panasonic product and hope that A Class action will be filed against them for there failure to recall these Sets. They lost (or settled) a previous Class Action against basically the same TV and Hopefully they will be sued again for these sets. Far as I am concerned a huge punitive fine should be imposed so they might think twice before continuing similar business practices in the future.

1 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy Unless You Want to Pay $1500 to Fix.......2006-12-09

This is a HORRIBLE TV and I would never buy another Panasonic product for the remainder of my life -- nor would I ever recommend anyone else do so. If I could've rated it ZERO stars I would've... this TV is nothing but a problem -- bulb replacement, ballast problems, and so forth. And Panasonic customer support is pointless. I am awaiting the day a lawsuit is brought against this model as it was with the PT-50LC13. DO NOT BUY!

4 out of 5 stars Good TV...Still Working Well (so far).......2006-08-25

Knock on wood...we bought our Panny in June 2004 and it has not failed us yet.

Sound quality on this set is excellent. Picture quality on DVDs, HD channels and high-quality digital broadcasts (including HBO/Cinemax) is excellent for an LCD projection TV. Standard broadcasts aren't that great, however - some channels are simply unwatchable, especially when compared to a simultaneous broadcast on a sister HD channel. Otherwise, I would rate the overall picture quality of this TV as very good.

In general, we get a lot of compliments on this set when having company over to watch movies or sporting events. It was a good, worthwhile purchase.

If/when our bulb finally blows, which seems inevitable based on the majority of reviews, we're going to upgrade to the 50" Panasonic plasma (yes, I am a Panny loyalist). Better picture and longer life span for the same price we paid for our current set.

3 out of 5 stars Panasonic PT-50LC14.......2006-05-22

I have had this television for about 14 months. With the exception of fair picture quality on non-HD channels I have been very satisfied......until this week. After only about 1000 hours of use I now have to purchase a $300 bulb. I was careful about use, careful to follow instructions about allowing the bulb to cool down, did everything I was supposed to. Now after searching for a bulb I see that the problem of blown bulbs is quite common. There are even petitions that one can sign to request action from Panasonic. I have even read about a possible class action suit against Panasonic.

Bottom line is that I will replace the bulb and then sell the set for the best price I can get and purchase a new set from a different manufacturer.
