Get the sharpest and clearest images possible from HD and standard TV and your favorite DVD movies with the 67-inch Samsung HL-R6768W DLP projection TV. This relatively lightweight TV weighs less than 73 pounds and measures just 14 inches deep, helping you to avoid sacrificing precious real estate in your home. It has a built-in analog/digital (NTSC/ATSC) tuner that will receive free over-the-air HDTV signals and is Digital Cable Ready, so you can enjoy digital cable without an additional box or remote. It also offers a good range of connections for DVD, DTV, PC, HDTV sources.

DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.

This DLP set employs the latest Digital Micromirror Devices (DMD), which have switching speeds twice as fast as previous generation microdisplays and up to 1,000 times faster than competing technologies. When combined with Samsung's new Cinema Smooth 720p light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that are closer to film.

The HL-R6768W features a widescreen picture aspect ratio (16:9; standard TVs have a 4:3 aspect ratio), which is the ideal screen format for viewing widescreen video from DVD players and the growing availability of broadcast programming off digital HDTV tuners (HD content is always widescreen), cable boxes and satellite receivers.

The HL-R6768W's 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Powered by Samsung's Cinema Smooth technology, the 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home.

The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The Automatic Digital Format Conversion System is compatible with 1080i and 720p HDTV formats, 480p EDTV and 480i SDTV formats. This system will accept any DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer RGB input. All video signals are converted to a 16:9 wide-screen pixel count (1280 x 720) progressive display for flicker-free images.

The 30-watt stereo audio system (two 15-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. It features the following video and audio connections:

1 out of 5 stars Avoid DLP TV's like the plague.......2007-05-11

I bought a Samsung DLP TV 4 years ago. The first lamp lasted 2 years and I replaced it myself ($200). That lamp failed after 1.5 years so I called Warrantech about my extended warranty. My argument is that there is someting wrong with the TV causing premature lamp failure. They reluctantly sent J&K electronics (Houston) to fix my TV. All they did was replace the lamp and wanted me to pay. I did not. That lamp failed after a month and a half. Anyone besides me starting to think there is something wrong with my TV. J&K Electronics came again and took my TV back to the shop. They are holding it hostage because Warrantech has never paid them anything.

The lesson you can learn from my experience (so you don't learn it the hard way) is this: Do NOT buy a DLP, in the end they are more expensive than LCD or Plasma. Also, the extended warranty won't help because the lamp is not covered and neither is anything else that causes lamp failure. Also, DO NOT buy an extended warrany from Warrantech. They will not help you. I have contacted the TX Attorney General's office to get assistance.

AVOID SAMSUNG DLP, WARRANTECH AND J&K ELECTRONICS LIKE THE PLAGUE THAT THEY ARE.

1 out of 5 stars BEWARE SAMSUNG DLP DESIGN FLAWS!!!.......2007-03-30

Consumers should be aware of serious design flaws which exist in Samsung DLP televisions. Cooling fans and color wheels are highly susceptible to failing. (As a non-techniocal person I should have no idea what these parts are, but alas, I bought a Samsung DLP) Expect these to fail within 1-2 years. Expect to pay approx $400 to replace the color wheel and $200 to replace the colling fan. That is, if your service technician can find them in stock anywhere. These parts are commonly in a national backorder because of the very high failure rates.

You should also expect the lamp to fail sooner than advertized. Many people need to purchase a new lamp between 1-2 years, and some more often than that. The lamp costs approx $150-$250 depending on your model, but you should be able to replace it yourself without too much difficulty. This cost will be in addition to replacement costs for the color wheel and colling fan. Please remember that these maintenance costs are recurring, and you will have to fix them again in another 1-2 years.

While I was very satisfied with the quality and performance of my DLP, my color wheel failed very early. I called tech support to report a grinding noise, and was told to "turn it off", wait 15 minutes, and turn it back on like this would fix the problem. After doing this for a while, the color wheel finally failed, actually shattered! Now I am out of warranty, and Samsung wants nothing to do with me. I have even tried ordering the part myself from two different online vendors, and they are both backordered indefinitely! It has been 6 weeks and they have no estimate for when this part will be available. Samsung cannot even give me an estimate when the supply of replacement parts is expected to meet demand. I have had my TV for 18 months, and apparently there is a national epidemic of them breaking at the same time!

I have a 42" Samsung Plasma which is a beautiful set along with a 26" CRT. Both are wonderful products, but Samsung is selling DLP LEMONS and will not stand behind them. DLP is a great bargain up front, but a maintenance NIGHTMARE! You will pay in the long run, and by the long run I mean every 2 years. If you still want to purchase a DLP television, PLEASE BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! IT WILL SAVE YOU A TON, BUT YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE CIRCUIT CITY TECH TO FIND PARTS WHICH MAY TAKE MONTHS!

I expect Samsung to abandon their design flaw riddled DLP sector, and focus on their beautiful plasma line. Expect DLP prices to drop even further, but please...LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP!

I could not be happier. Delivery was faster than I expected.
The unit was in excellent condition. Delivery procedures were explained very clearly and politely, both over the phone and in
writing via e-mail. Rob at One Call was wonderfully helpful.
Overall, a terrific experience. Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck..........2006-03-19

I have the 61" Samsung DLP. I'm a gamer (Xbox 360) so the LCD projection TV was not for me. LCD's tend to have blurry imaging during high on-screen action.

This DLP is awesome. Most info I read online referred to a "rainbow" effect as a DLP drawback. If you're getting a Generation 3 or later DLP from Samsung (actually Texas Instruments) then you don't experience the rainbow effect.

My 61" is only 780P and is absolutely beautiful - this model is 1080P which is true HD so I'm sure it's even better.

One note - after much reading about both DLP's and LCD's I wouldn't buy either type of TV without the additional 3 year warranty. I don't normally buy extended warranties but I did with this TV. I've read in many reports that the bulbs go out about every 3 years (with normal use) so the additional 3 year warranty (total of 4 years) will be about the same cost as your first bulb replacement.

I was torn between choosing this model and the Sony LCD. I'm very satisfied with my decision. DLP has brighter brights and darker darks than the LCD models.

1 out of 5 stars Problems with Samsung DLP television.......2006-02-26

I enjoyed my Samsung HLP6163W 61 inch DLP television until it failed fourteen months after purchase and two months after expiration of the Samsung warranty. The "light engine" failed. Repair, with labor and tax is approximately $1900-- nearly half of the original purchase price of the television. Take the time to review internet forums on Samsung DLP televisions. This type of failure appears to be very common.

I have contacted Samsung corporation about warranty extension and repair. They refuse to even consider my request, despite the fact that many people on Samsung DLP internet forums feel Samsung knew during the manufacturing of this product it would experience early extensive failure. There is even talk of class action lawsuits. Hey, it is two months out of warranty, so tough luck, customers.

I now am in possession of high priced inoperable junk. My next television? A Sony!
