Designed specifically for high-performance corporate and multimedia installations, Panasonic's TH-42PWD8UK--a member of the company's eighth-generation Professional 8-Series plasma displays--delivers high quality alongside flexible and expandable input options. The 42-inch widescreen monitor also offers horizontal/vertical image orientation and multi-screen options so you can create images as large as 84 inches in diameter (using 4 separate TH-37PWD8UK displays).
Panasonic's 8-Series plasmas reproduce gradations in steps equivalent to 2,048 shades and produce up to 8.58 billion colors to deliver astonishing image depth, ultra-faithful color reproduction and provide ultra-subtle nuances in dark scenes. The panel's light-efficient bounded cell structure boosts peak brightness by more than 15 percent (from prior models), its newly-developed phosphor increases the resistance to static-image burn-in to the same level as color CRT displays, and a new drive circuit and overall panel improvements give these plasmas a service life of 60,000 hours.
The monitor features super-high contrast (up to an amazing 4000:1) and a native pixel count of 852 x 480 and can accept image inputs with 1080/60i, 1080/50i, 1080/24p, 1080/24sf, 1080/25p, 1080/30p, 720/60p, 720/50p, 480/60p, and 480/60i signal compatibility. It supports a range of PC input signals, including resolutions of VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, and UXGA.
The TH-42PWD8UK is a display only, not a television per se, which means you'll need a DTV or cable set-top box fro any television programming you wish to view. It's also as basic as possible, beyond its many core display technologies, so you can tailor it to your application(s) without paying for features (like speakers) which you may well have no use for. The panel's multi-function slots let you swap out either or both of the existing terminal boards to accommodate variety of optional IT networking or audio/video input boards.
The front protective glass of the plasma display panel incorporates a Deep Black Filter that suppresses light transmittance and slashes the amount of external light reflected. This technology helps these displays achieve the industry's highest contrast ratio of 340:1 when viewed in bright surroundings. By reducing the pre-discharge emission when reproducing black, the New Real Black Drive System provides deeper, richer blacks and a stunning 4000:1 contrast, resulting in dramatically enhanced image clarity and realism.
This plasma display also features a new Advanced Dual Picture Mode in addition to the conventional Dual Picture Mode, enabling you to overlay a video image onto a full-screen PC image. For example, you can superimpose text information from a PC over a video clip, giving you a more effective way to present information. When displaying two separate images, you can select the audio output from either source. Note, however, that the TH-42PWD8UK cannot display two images when both are from component video or RGB (PC) signal sources.

This display's new cabinet design provides a simple, slim front bezel with control buttons and the power button set on the bottom surface, providing a smooth, clean look while also helping prevent accidental operation and tampering.
A variety of screen saver functions help minimize the risk of uneven phosphor aging. You can also use the timer to set the screen saver operating cycles, operating time, and start and stop times.
The 3D Color Management System achieves precise control based on 3D management in the color difference plane and brightness directions. This finer level of control produces more expressive images.
The Active I/P (Interlace/Progressive) Conversion system detects slow movements more precisely by increasing the range for detecting moving-picture and still picture pixels. This reduces I/P conversion noise that often occurs when reproducing tiny movements, thereby producing crisper images while raising the vertical resolution in interlaced images.
