Treat yourself to a large, eye-poppingly vivid picture and one beautiful piece of furniture with Funai's 42-inch flat-panel plasma display. The F42PDME offers a host of convenient audio/video inputs alongside Funai's Natural Color Matrix (NCM) technology, which delivers advanced color correction across all 16.7 million of the display's reproducible colors. This is a monitor only, which means it won't pull in NTSC (or ATSC) television signals without the aide of an outboard cable box, DTV receiver, or (for NTSC signals) the tuner in a DVR or VCR.
With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the F42PDME is just 5.9 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (using optional mounting hardware). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen).
The F42PDME's NTSC (interlaced) image quality is enhanced by a 3D Y/C comb filter, which removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt), a high (1,000:1) contrast ratio, high peak brightness of 500 candles/square meter, and wide (170 degrees, horizontal) viewing angles. This means your DVD movies, video games, DTV programming, and standard-definition VCR and cable content will all have rich blacks and bright colors easily viewed from most vantages.
Inputs consist of 2 each composite-video and S-video, and 1 each HD component-video (480p, 720p, 1080i) and SD component-video (480i). Side-panel inputs make it easy to hook up a camcorder or other temporarily connected device. One set of stereo analog audio outputs (left/right RCA) accommodate a powered subwoofer or other component.
Other features include a closed-caption decoder, a sleep timer, auto status resume (after a power outage), auto shut-off, and onscreen picture controls for display brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness.
