SVA HD4208-UII 42'' EDTV-Ready Flat-Panel Plasma TV
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Big-screen, flat-panel plasma TVs have never been more affordable. Case in point: SVA's widescreen HD4208UII, a 42-inch set with 852 x 480 native pixel resolution. The set gives you true EDTV (480p, progressive-scan) resolution alongside inputs compatible with full-resolution 720p and 1080i HDTV signals (optional set-top box decoder/receiver required) and analog PC signals up to 1,600 x 1,200 through a VGA input.
A plasma screen gives you vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the HD4208UII is a mere 3.5 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. The HD4208UII offers 160-degree viewing angles, high 550:1 contrast, and typically luminous 500 cd/m2 brightness.
The HD4208UII also offers single-tuner picture-on-picture, which lets you view any video input atop the PC input. The 24-bit real-color display can realize 16.7 million colors, and the set's stereo speakers are powered by 5 watts per channel.
Inputs consist of the above-mentioned VGA computer input, 2 composite-video, 1 S-video, 2 component-video (1 HD, 1 SD), and 4 accompanying stereo analog (left/right) RCA inputs.
What's in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, an S-video cable, a component-video cable, an AC power cable, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Customer Reviews:
Spend your money elsewhere-garbage.......2005-10-19
I've had this tv for over a year now and all of a sudden a black square comes in front of the picture and blinks on and off so you can't watch the tv any more. No matter what we've done nothing helps and we can't seem to get a response from SVA for assistance. Don't waste your money!!!
Excellent Plasma TV at a great price.......2005-10-15
I have had this TV for about a year now and I am very impressed with the picture, the sound and the overall build quality. After finally getting someone from Tweeter to set it up properly I've had no complaints or problems. The SVA runs about 15 hours a day every day. Even has a better picture than my friends extremely overpriced Sony...Thanks Amazon for a great deal
Good and Bad.......2005-02-20
I've had this unit for almost 1 year now. I purchased this to have a second Plasma for the bedroom. I already have a HDTV Pioneer plasma in my den and I enjoy it so much that I could not resist the $1,800 price tag. I think SVA was the first to beat the $2000 price tag with the EDTV plasmas. So I jumped at it. The unit came with a castiron base and I needed my brother to come over to lift this on to a piece of furniture (135lbs) Now to performance: The Good. Picture is very bright! Speakers work great. If used for store displays, anamated cartoons this unit is fine. Now the Bad. The grey scaling is poor. If you are watching a movie with dark scenes (such as Van Helsing) you will see blue blacks, washed out details etc. I have found the best picture is with the color and contrast set to 30 and the brightness set between 55 and 70. This will give you the best picture available. With these settings I have found the picture acceptable, but I would reccomend you look at the latest Panasonic EDTV plasmas such as the 42PD25u. This unit is now rated for 60,000 hours (twice the length of most plasmas) and the grey scaling and detail is the best you can buy in a EDTV plasma. Check Amazon they have great deals.
Spend a little extra for a better Plasma.......2004-12-28
I had been searching for a good EDTV Plasma for some time. I have no HDTV feed so there was no need to pay extra for the better resolution. After searching for some time I saw this SVA model go on sale for 1799 so I jumped on it and had it at my house in a weeks time. The display looks great and the stand and speakers it comes with are very nice. I left the speakers in the box since I also purchased a surround system. The first thing that I found that I didn't like about this display was no support for Progressive Scan signals, so that new DVD player from Sony wasn't worth it I guess. With Progressive Scan signaling turned off the display was adequte watchin a DVD, but nothing great. Once I tried watching TV however, that's when I was really let down. The display made everthing blurry and appear out of focus, but just barely, it gave me a headache trying to watch normal TV programming. I played with the Aspect settings, the picture settings, etc.. nothing helped. I also noticed that gradients didn't show well, instead of a smooth gradient fill on certain scenes it appeared choppy and the trasition was stepped.
After one week of adjusting, I boxed it up and sent it back. I paid another $200 for the Panasonic 42PWD7UY. What a difference!! Progressive signals, much better resolution, better contrast, better everything. There's now no wonder it's rated one of the best EDTV Plasmas on the market, but this isn't a review for the Panasonic just wanted to stress that a little extra money in the world of Plasma's is REALLY worth it!!
wow great TV.......2004-11-10
This is the leasty amount of money I have ever expected to spend on a plasma TV. The picture is clear and it looks better than the Samsung 65 inch bigscreen I purchased for more. The speakers sond great and the stand makes it attractive on our dresser. The plasma unit does run a little hot and has a funny way of turning on wich is from remote only. Sometimes you need to reset the power button for some reason but other wise I can't complain.
