Zenith P42W22B 42'' Plasma Flat-Panel EDTV
Zenith P42W22B 42'' Plasma Flat-Panel EDTV
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Zenith's P42W22B is a 42-inch widescreen plasma EDTV monitor, which means it's a step closer to high-definition (HDTV) than standard TVs. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box) you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from favorite movies and concert videos. Zenith's groundbreaking display technology delivers superior image clarity, color, and brightness in a large-format television less than four inches thick.
Blowing away even the best LCD monitors in contrast (650:1 contrast ratio) and brightness (620 cd/m2), the screen offers 852 x 480p resolution that produces an extremely detailed image. RS-232 controls as well as NTSC, SD, VGA, SVGA and DVI inputs ensure the P42W22B's compatibility with DVD players, VCRs, computers, and other video sources. A plasma display also offers wider viewing angles than an LCD screen, providing considerable freedom in placing it. You can put it right between stereo loudspeakers, even if those speakers lack magnetic shielding: flat-panel screens are impervious to magnetic distortion.
Stunning features include aspect-ratio correction (intelligent resizing of video and computer images to 16:9 widescreen or conventional 4:3 aspect ratio) and Intelligent Image Scaling, which employs a Faroudja scan converter to seamlessly translate TV video data to PC formats without distortion or cropping in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. Vertical display mode changes the image from horizontal to vertical if you want to rotate monitor is rotated 90 degrees.

Customer Reviews:
Great Price/Performance Plasma TV.......2005-09-04
Oh my god, who are these people giving this great plasma TV such a poor rating. I have had one of these for 10 months now and it has performed without flaw. Playing DVD's in native 480p is as good as it gets. I watch HBO HD all the time and what a great picture. The picture is bright and the contrast ratio is as good as it gets bar none. People using feedback like this to decide on their purchase deserve some real feedback, and not the nonsense that some people have posted. Bottom Line: for the price you will have a very hard time getting a better plamsa.
Zenith P42W22 Review.......2004-05-06
After reading the two negative reviews I felt that I had to respond in defense of the 42 inch Zenith Plasma Display. I have had mine almost a year and I am very pleased with it. Our decision to purchase a Plasma display was to remove the huge bulky tube TV (35" Toshiba Cinema Series) from the living room although we were satisfied with the picture quality and features. I chose the Zenith after viewing the competition in various stores and settled on it for the price vs. performance and features. Mine is set up with Directv, VHS, and DVD inputs and output the audio to a Denon sound system. I have not had a single problem with it so I can't comment about the service issue. The picture quality is very good for the specifications but depends on the input signal. Low bandwidth input will show some pixelization in the dark areas but a digital signal or even better DVD, is crisp and vibrant. While not true HDTV, it is EDTV but we didnt have HD available at the time. The glass has an anti reflective coating and you can view the picture from almost sideways as opposed to straight on. In summary I find the P42W22 to be a stylish, well performing plasma display at a very modest price. We enjoy it thouroughly just be sure to use the best quality signal source for the best display.
nice.......2003-11-05
If this is soo Bad then WHy is this screen one of the best selling screen in Amazon?
Very Bad.......2003-09-12
Simply put, Exactly as the other say, zero support, complete lie in specification. even in this page it say once 650 brightness level, then you click to see complete specs and it say 750.
You figure it out...
A let-down.......2003-08-18
My office just got one of these, as the company owner is Korean, and he felt obliged to buy a Korean product. (For those who don't already know, Zenith, an American brand, was bought out by a Korean manufacturer in the mid-90s, so it's now a South Korean company. Don't be fooled into thinking you are buying "American.") Everyone is disappointed, including the boss. The picture is very fuzzy, and dark than other plasma TVs I've seen, including the Gateway one of the same size and price. At least Gateway backs up their TV with very good support. Zero support from the Korean Zenith. Nobody can figure out what's wrong with the picture, whether it's the plasma bulbs themselves or some setting we need to fiddle with. It's been a frustraing experience.
