Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
With its rear-projection LCD, the 45-inch Panasonic PT45LC12 offers excellent viewing even in rooms that are brightly lit. This HDTV-ready set also features two tuners for watching multiple programs at the same time, a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, a motion-adaptive 3D Y/C digital comb filter, 3:2 pulldown progressive cinema scan, and many more enhanced video features for the ultimate cinema-quality home theater experience.

The enhanced progressive-scan doubler improves the quality of diagonal lines in a moving picture, displaying a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by deinterlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. The PT45LC12 has a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio as well as a 4:3 enhanced mode; it's compatible with the 1080i high-definition signal format.

A motion-adaptive 3D Y/C digital comb filter displays bright colors and action scenes with incredible clarity by minimizing the "color rainbow effect" in closely spaced patterns, compensating for the motion that occurs between fields. Included 10-bit, 60 MHz analog-to-digital image processing boosts conventional grayscale from 256 to 1024, delivering four times as many shades of black and white.

The horizontal edge correction in conjunction with the dynamic sharpness control and velocity modulated scan to help produce clean, crisp television images and reduce the unwanted effects of video noise.

Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right. High-quality, 8-bit PIP image processing provides 256 levels of gray from black to white in the inset picture for finer image detail.

Progressive Cinema Scan (3:2 pulldown) provides faithful reproduction of film-based materials. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Progressive Cinema Scan digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

With its Enhanced Definition (EDTV) display, the PT45LC12 enables you to view TV programming in the 480p signal format (with optional high-definition tuner). This set has a built-in 181-channel tuner and two built-in speakers (10 watts apiece) that provide simulated surround sound and BBE high-definition audio enhancement, which helps restore the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound. The Artificial Intelligence Sound Control automatically adjusts the volume level on your TV to prevent wide variations in sound between different TV stations and types of programming.

The PT45LC12 has 3 composite A/V inputs (1 front), 3 S-Video inputs (1 front), 1 RF input, and 2 component video inputs.

Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

1 out of 5 stars 3 years. bad pic, cant find any info.......2006-09-17

I have had my set for about 3 years now and the picture was good until about 1 year ago. I started to see dicoloration in the screen. I have vauge red and green bloches through-out the screen. I am not sure if this is what happens when the bulb starts to go bad or if it is something else. in any case I am sure to be in for a 500.00 + repair cost. I am mot happy about this at all! I would advise people sto stay away from this set. I have been an avid panasonic brand buyer for many years but this is puting a bad taste in my mouth.

5 out of 5 stars Great TV!.......2006-08-30

I've had this tv for about 2 years now and havent had one problem with it, people complain about the light bulbs but mine still working perfectly. Picture quality is great and I just love this tv.

1 out of 5 stars Lamp life 10 months, $300 to replace.......2005-10-11

Prepare to spend $300/year on this product. They say lamp life is 5000 hrs, it's more like 1000-1500. It is guaranteed for only 12 months by panasonic.

3 out of 5 stars Great picture, short lamp life.......2005-04-19

The other reviewers wrote great things about this set. I had it for 2 years and I agree. The picture is great to stunning when watching HDTV, good to very good with DVD (in cinema mode), and OK to good with analog NTSC signal.
The real problem is that the bulb/lamp does not live the advertised 5000 hrs. mine blew at 1600 or so. Many people on the various forums fume about those unexpected $300 expenses every several months.

4 out of 5 stars Confusing Price.......2003-12-15

I am a little confused by Amazon's pricing on this Panasonic model. $3299.00? The Panasonic website has a MSRP on this model of only $2,499.00! This set retails in the mid to low two thousand range everywhere I have looked. Am I missing something Amazon?
