RCA HD52W55 52'' CRT HD-Ready Projection TV
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
RCA's 52-inch HD52W55 projection television delivers broad, big-screen excitement with the best possible high-definition imagery, right out of the box. The HD52W55 uses an integrated ATSC/QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) digital tuner for free, off-air reception of HDTV broadcasts--no set-top box required. The TV also benefits from a host of proprietary technologies, from RCA's Accurate Visual Reality picture projection system (for bright, automatically aligned lifelike video) to the Hi-Pix Picture System (which combines display technology and video optimization with updated TruScan Digital Reality signal processing).
The set's HDTV tuner is digital cable ready (DCR), which means you don't need a cable box to view unscrambled digital cable programming. A rear-panel CableCARD slot gives you the ability to receive digital cable via a special card that obviates the need for a separate, stand-alone cable box.
A 3-line digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.
With the set's Film Mode option turned on, intelligent signal processing courtesy of TruScan Digital Reality recognizes incoming video signals and progressively converts them to achieve optimum digital picture performance. TruScan Digital Reality also includes 3:2 pulldown reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown reversal digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
Connections consist of 1 high-definition component-video input, 1 HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), 2 S-video inputs, 3 composite-video inputs, and 2 RF inputs (affording 2-tuner picture-in-picture viewing from analog sources).
An audio/video output also permits hookup with an external device such as a digital video recorder, while an optical digital-audio output channels Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound from select HDTV programs to a compatible AV receiver and multichannel speaker system. A front-panel input affords simple connections with camcorders, gaming devices, digital cameras, and other components. All terminals are gold plated for the best possible signal conductivity.
The set produces stereo audio powered by 15 watts per channel from its two 2-way speakers. Other features include expanded stereo with bass boost (uses the TV's left and right speakers to expand sound and create a "live performance" effect), a closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, and power-on timer.
An elaborate onscreen help system describes the set's features and explains how to use them. You can customize the TV to fit your viewing taste--and match the lighting in the room where you watch TV--using personal presets and/or the internal automatic picture quality settings: vibrant (day), cinematic (night), natural, videogame, and professional. You can adjust each input to a different setting and the TV will automatically adjust the picture when you change inputs.
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link the set with any AV source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.
What's in the Box
