The DUO-MP3 digital audio player works as a standalone MP3 player, a digital audiobook player, and a digital e-cassette you can play in your car, in a boombox--in virtually any audio cassette player.

It features 32 MB of built-in memory, and is expandable using MultiMediaCards (MMCs). The DUO-MP3 plays MP3 digital audio files, and can also play Windows Media Audio (WMA) files with a firmware upgrade.

DUO players can also play content from Audible.com, the Internet's largest, most diverse provider of premium spoken word audio for download or playback on personal computers or AudibleReady mobile devices. Works well enough and eminently practical!.......2003-12-04

This unit is discontinued now but for reference purposes: overall it is a decent performer for a basic mp3 player. It DOES come with a USB connection (I think a previous reviewer was referring to the AR-100 Duo player--an earlier model).
I don't listen to audiobooks but as an mp3 music player it has performed well in the cassette mode and as a stand alone unit.
Downloads were easily accomplished using the furnished software.
Customer service through DUO was outstanding.

PROS: *compact size (great portability!)
*practicality (works great in the cassette deck or with headphones)
*good customer service from the parent company

CONS: *low flash memory (expensive to upgrade with mmc)
*no lcd display
*sometimes need to "reboot" before playing or downloading

Liar Liar. Be aware this item does not have USB connection, nor does it allow upgrade to 96mb as advertized. Play audible? No way with this model.

Wish It Worked Better.......2002-01-28

I have had this product since April 2001. When it works I love it; when it screws up [which is often] I want to throw it out my car window. Whenever I get back into my car, it seems to have jumped backwards at least 15 minutes in the book I am listening to & then I have to go through the tedious FF exercise & never quite know whee I am. The most frustrating part is when the machine skips forward. I have no idea if it's a minute forward, an hour forward AAAHHHH. But when it works, it's wonderful having it.

Convenient but flawed.......2001-08-09

The form factor is great for use in the car but note that you'll need a cassette player you can feed the Digisette's power cord into (the result is just like a "cassette adaptor" for a CD player). When the battery dies while playing, the unit remembers where you were when you *started* playing. This would not be an issue if it were not for the Digisette's other problem, when playing audio books the fast-forward and reverse controls are completely useless: they send you to either the start of the program or one chapter from the end (when they change the program at all). This makes using the unit tedious because you can't rewind a little when you miss something.
The bundled software is also pretty lame in that it offers little help for figuring out how much more music you can fit in the remaining space and it has issues detecting the device.
The hardware is fairly cool but it's let down by indifferent software both in the unit and on the PC.

I love the fact that it plays on the casette deck in the car. I only give it 4 stars because there isn't a lot of memory. it holds about 10 songs unless you buy the memory upgrade.
