Product Description
This funky RCA Lyra player is all the rage among digital music enthusiasts. You won't want to be without this colorful and compact device - you won't have any reason to be since RCA made it small enough to fit in the palm of your hand (unit weighs only two ounces). The small size of this personal digital player does not minimize the power that is packed into it. RCA has packed this chic Lyra player with 128MB of memory and a digital FM tuner. If over two hours of audio enjoyment is not enough to satisfy your needs, you can use the External Scan Disc/Multimedia Card Slot for expandable memory. Awesome things come in small packages - this Lyra Player is no exception.
Customer Reviews:
SD compatibility report.......2007-02-19
Okay, so most of the information about this item's features and usability have already been covered in the existing reviews. It's a USB 1.1 device, it's not easily searchable through its primitive "back/next" interface, and so on. (Has anyone else mentioned that if your batteries die in the middle of a song, the player doesn't "save your place" in the playlist? Say you have 30 songs, you started at #5, and your batteries die during #16. When you replace the batteries and power up, you're back on #5 instead of #16.) That's the bad news - I'm here to give you the good news.
First, although early units were tied exclusively to MMJB, later firmware fixed that problem. All you have to do these days is connect the unit (which reads as a USB flash drive) and drag MP3s into it. It's slow, but it works. Just make sure you pay attention to the way you load it, as the first song loaded is the first one played.
Second, and to my very happy surprise, I've been able to use two 2GB cards in my unit (the 1080B version) - one regular SD stick and one TransFlash/microSD chip in an adapter. I have verified that the player is reading past the 1GB threshold; it will handle the full 2GB card capacity. Of course, I don't suggest using the player's USB 1.1 interface to load a card of that size; you're much better off using a USB 2.0 reader for that. Unfortunately, the device's age dictates that it is not SDHC-compliant, so 2GB is as good as it gets - but given the other features of the unit, that's plenty.
In short, I've had this for a long time and plan to have it for the foreseeable future - as long as it doesn't die on me.
Good Player, Ok Sound, great for beginners.......2006-08-16
This player has expandable memory which is great, but the problem is that it's not searchable. There is no way to find the song you want to play. Files transfer to it easily and quickly. I think I am going to upgrade to an IPod of some kind for its more advanced features.
It's a fair player, not recommended.......2005-12-06
I have had my Rca Lyra player for about a year and a half. It's a great compact little player at first, but the problem is it can barely hold 30 songs. It's durablility is also horrible. Since it is 2 AAA powered, it's battery life is only maybe 4 hours. Maybe the fourth time I was changing batteries, the back to the battery compartment broke! It was held on by a tiny flimsy plastic tip like most shotty electronics are. I droped it form 4 feet one day, and the sound broke so now i can only hear out of one earphone, no matter what quality of hearphone I use.
So:
Pros: It's compact and its Flash-Drive based
Cons: Duribility is horrible, only space for 30 songs, and low battery life.
So, now, 1 and a half years later, I'm going to stick with the Creative Labs Zen Touch.
RCA Lryra1080B nice little gadget.......2005-10-27
You don't have to use music match you can simply go to my computer and copy and past files into the icon that represents the RCA Lyra player. I had this item for a year and its very useful. I seen the ipods and all that this does the same thing they do. Basically you just go to Windows media player and rip your songs from your cd's and then you transfer them to the player. Its as simple as that. I would say this is a wise investment it will last more than a cd player will and its a great value
This is a great item and i would recommend it to anyone.......2005-06-13
I bought the player almost 2 years ago and its still working very well, im impressed with the durability because i have put it through quite a beating. The musicmatch software is easy to navigate if you know anything about computer and have any common sense, has an expandable memory which is great, can run for some time on two AAA batteries, easy to use, the radio tuner isn't the best but for its size and portability its amazing it even has one that works, and it has nice accesories that compliment it very well.. i recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap, reliable, and durable MP3 player!
sincerely,
tony
