Easy to Use.......2007-01-25

This player was easy to load songs onto and easy to use. The belt clip is super handy for running. It is also easy to use while running. You don't have to see the screen (like an ipod) to control it - you can go by feel of the buttons. I have dropped it several times and still had no problems with it - GREAT PRODUCT!

I don't know why everyone is whining about this terrific little MP3 player. I love mine. The only drawback is that you can't put 30 gigs of music on it. However, as cheap as the SD cards are, you can change them out.
I have washed my Cali in the washing machine not once, but twice, and it still plays!!!! Not to mention the numerous times I accidentally took it into the pool or lake with me. I just let it dry out a couple of days, and it played fine.
I gave mine to my daughter with the intention of buying another for myself, and was devastated to learn that I couldn't find a replacement. That's how I ended up at this site. I ended up buying an ipod, and like it okay, but just love the simplicity of the Rio. I am buying one from this site for my husband, who knows absolutely nothing about computers, electronics, or mp3s. It will be perfect for him.

Poor sound, even worse earbuds.......2006-11-12

Strapped for cash, I've been forced to stick with this player for a couple years. The player has indeed taken lots of knocking around, but I have two complaints:
1) There is background hum behind all my music. You can really hear it between songs and during quieter passages. Because of this, I couldn't use it to listen to electronic books because the hum was so darn loud and annoying. An email to Rio tech support asking about this was ignored, which really cheesed me off. Their support is awful.
2) The wires to the earbuds broke during the second use. I've had duct tape on them for the last two years, but they permanently gave out the other day (something broke in the connector where even tape could not help).

This is a great little player for anyone that wants music and knows little to nothing about MP3s.

- Has an easy-to-use software program that walks you through loading the music or audible books
- Can upgrade storage space by inserting SD flash memory
- No real bells and whistles like a more expensive MP3 player, but you can listen to FM radio, which is great if you go the the gym and want to tune into TV.

I've had this for over 3 years and it has been banged around at the gym and while running. The only things I've replaced are the batteries and earbuds. My son's iPod has been in the shop twice in less time.

Might not be the most stylish, but a great, little, affordable player all the same.

I'm not sure what the naysayers are talking about. For the price you get a sturdy mp3 player that can expand over time.

I don't understand the gripes about the software. Why use it? Windows sees the Cali as another hard drive to cut, copy, and paste like any other hard drive.

You can dump mp3 or wma files to the cali and play them...

I've had my device for over 3 years and have not had one problem with it! I work out with it 3-5 times a week, get it wet, knock it around...keeps ticking.

I would suggest downloading the latest firmware as it allows you to put a larger SD (MMC) card in it. In fact, I know for sure it can use a 2 GB card with no problems. On the rio site they say that they only support up to 1 GB, but I have a feeling that it will work just fine with 4+ GB...who needs a nano???
