1 out of 5 stars Not so good!.......2007-01-03

After few months the mp3 player is not working well! :-(
Some problems with headphones and the sound.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy it..........2006-04-17

I bought my first psa about 2 years ago. The first one was a psa Michael Jordan special edition. After 11 months of using it without any problem, one day it decided to just go dead.
I returned it to philips and they sent me the psa220 (they didn't have the michael jordan edition anymore)

The first problem that I had with the psa was that the back of it peeled off. This happened about 3 months after I received it. I think it peeled off because I use it on my arm on the gym and the sweat gets between my arm and the player. But this is unacceptable since it is a mp3 player for sports and when you do sports you sweat.

The second problem was that the belt that I use on my arm broke. Anyway I was able to fix it with black tape, the one you use for electronics.

Finally this week the battery just died. I cannot use it anymore without having it plugged to the AC. I noticed that the last 3 months that the player was doing crazy things. For example, I would live it connected for a whole day, and when I was ready to use it, it wouldn't just turn on. And then the next day it would be ok. I hope that it comes back to sanity so I can still use it, but this is not fun at all.

Pros
It looks great Good sound quality

Cons
Extremely poor manufacture. Battery not reliable, just lasted for a year.

The Bottom Line
I wouldn't buy it again. The looks are great, but if it is not reliable, then nobody can see you wearing it, and above all, you cannot use it.
I use the earplugs from Koss

1 out of 5 stars I'll Never Buy Phillips Again.......2006-02-15

I don't use this Mp3 player for running or anything strenuous that would cause wear and tear. In this case it should last longer than intended to, right? Wrong. Within a couple of months the play button would not work unless I pushed it at an angle and held down with lots of pressure. It usually took a few tries to get the thing just to turn on. This was annoying, but I lived.

Maybe six to eight months later the screen started to freeze up and wouldn't let me change songs or turn itself off. After it played a few songs I could eventually turn it off, but I had to wait five to ten minutes.

A year after I received the player something went wrong with the playlist. I don't know if this is a software problem (Musicmatch worked fine for a year) or a hardware problem. It won't let me delete of the songs or add any new ones. I'm stuck with the same three hours of music until I go out and buy a real Mp3 player.

I put absolutely no wear and tear on this player except playing Mp3s. I can't imagine how quickly this thing falls apart for people that use it for its purpose: running. Terrible.

3 out of 5 stars Good player for the sweaty.......2006-02-07

I sweat. A lot.
So I decided to buy the Nike Phillips PSA 512.
As noted elswhere, the driver software included with this player is not very intuitive or easy to install. My wife has a Rio Forge, and I like its interface a lot better. You just drag and drop the songs you want to the player and you're done.
With this Nike, you have to use Windows Media Player to convert regular 'ol MP3 files and copy them over. This process is much slower than it is on the Rio.
Also, the Nike player reports artist, track and album info from each mp3's id3 tag. So if your mp3 collection does not have accurate tags, you will see a lot of "no information available" listings for the music you put on the player.
By comparison, my wife's Rio reads the file names, not the ID3 tags. So if the song's name, artist, etc is reflected in the file name, then you're fine.
I would have returned this Nike player and bought a Rio (even though they're now defunct) except for one major factor: The Nike player is very very moisture resistant. I am a runner and I sweat buckets on the treadmill. I have been using this player for six months, and I have not shorted it out yet.
So if you require a moisture resistant player for a cheap price, this may be the one for you. If you want the most elegant player with the best control software, and you aren't a sweaty neanderthal like me, then an ipod or a rio might be a better choice.

3 out of 5 stars Perfect Little Mp3 player, except ..........2006-02-01

I bought this product in October for my best friend. I decided to purchase it afer reading other reviews, and when i gave it to her i sent her some of the warnings and advice from some of the reviews. She loved it. She said that it was the right size, she liked that it had 512 mb, and that it had the radio. She also liked that it felt very durable. One problem she had was that she had to devote a day to downloading the necessary software, since she has dial-up. However, once that was over she was happy. Until, a month after she had gotten it, after she hadn't dropped it or anything of the sort, the headphone jack stopped working. She got in touch with Phillips, and they said that the headphone jack was not included in the warranty. They said that she would have to pay for the shipping to send it back to them, and if they decide that the product was faulty, and it wasn't her fault, she would still have to pay them to fix it and send it back to her. So, I would say that this a great mp3 player, but if you buy it, you had better pray that the part that stops working on it is included in the warranty. Good product, poor customer service.
