Customer Reviews:
Non-intuitive Interface.......2007-01-23
I bought this mainly to use as a personal MP3 recorder--its the only one I could find at the time. With a Griffen (?) mic it has great sensitivity, sound quality, and recording capacity--used it to record weddings and other events. But the interface is pretty horrible. Maybe it's me, but I have to figure out the multifunction buttons every time I use it. And my wife, whom I bought it for recording lectures, refuses to use it because of that interface. As delivered, I had to use the iRiver proprietary software to upload music via the USB port, but I eventually found a firmware upgrade that allows the device to work like a USB memory drive directly.
Cool music player.......2005-08-13
I am pretty young but had no problems making this player work. The armband is too small for me, I guess I have pretty big arms, but I was able to wear it on my ankle. The only thing with wearing it on your ankle is that you need a remote and longer wires for the headphone. I got some wires and wire couplers from radio shack and extended the wires and for a remote I use a coat hangar that I just hinge to the inside of my pants and it works pretty well. Be aware if you do this thought to protect the end with electrical tape or something similar or you will scratch the player up real easy.
When I play the music it is toe tapping. By this I mean it sounds good and when I'm not worried about anything else and just listening to it my toe taps. Sort of like how some people are always moving their leg at the table I guess but except with the toes. I guess it might be hard to explain.
I also like the fact that it can get loud. This is also really good for if you attach it to speakers. For example my brother has really large "peavy" speakers and I wired this into them and it didn't blow away the neighborhood or anything but my friends little brother was over and well he cried a little which was cool but I don't mean that in a mean way. It's hard to explain again sorry.
So in the end I recommend this and also don't forget that you can upgrade this in the firm ware and it will fix a lot of problems. The only real bad thing about the unit is that it is not soft so if you fall over it can hurt you. I don't mean permanently but it is like a small punch and bruising. I have worked around it by attaching rubber grommets around it with basic elmers glue which could be removed later without damaging it.
Also if you drop it with these attached there is a chance it could bounce back and you could catch it - except the couple of time I dropped it it bounced in other directions and under things so if you try it use caution and wear eyewear so it doesn't hit you in the eye which is unlikely but a safety precaution I guess like the shooting your eye with a bb gun myth, it could happen so watch it.
Perfect for "On the Go-All the Time" use.......2005-08-12
I use this player in the gym/while running/travelling, and it is perfect. With an armband and a laynard for whatever suits your taste. I am not an audiophile, but the ear-phones are great. The case and armband are not the best, but good enough for the price. The arm-band is not velcro, but the kind with the hook, so it takes a little one-handed practice to put it on. Great functions/decent navigation and GREAT sound quality. One of the best "value for money" players out there. Plus it works on a AA battery, so if you have a set of rechargables...you are covered. Buy!!
Great Sound.......2005-08-09
I purchased the 256mb version for my wife and was so impressed with the sound I bought this one for me. Software is very easy to use. Navigation takes a little while to learn, but well worth the price.
Great little mp3 player.......2005-08-02
This player is great. It connected easily to my computer and I had now problems using it with Windows Media Player to sync up. Battery life appears to be very good with the rechargable batteries I had. There are a lot of functions with this player but, the basics are easy to use with the standard buttons. The joystick control adds many other functions but, I only use a few. You will definitely need to read the manual to figure them all out.
