I bought myself a cheap little mp3 player to use for outdoor exercise and it's still going strong after a year while my friend is on his third iPod. It doesn't have the full features or speed of the name brand players but has proven to be durable with good battery life. With a 1 GB SD card I can get over 230 songs on it and a battery lasts me 3 to 4 weeks. I bought 2 more to give as presents and those people are pleased with a simple but reliable player.

This player worked perfectly for one year. After that it just broke for no good reason at all.

Usually with new electronics, you have to install the cd and read the manual. Not for this RCA Lyra. I plugged in the usb to my computer without even installing the CD. A Windows explorer popped up labeled
'RCA Lyra'. all you have to do is drag mp3 or WMA files into it, and your good to go. It can hold 34 WMA songs without the sd card. Overall, I love this thing and i would totally recommend this to people who do not know so much about computers!

I downloaded to the mp3 player tonight and was very impressed at the ease of use. The player sounded great! I'd buy it again. Matter of fact I did. I have two of them now!

An excellent buy........2006-07-19

Even though I consider myself an advanced computer user, this is my first mp3 player. The few dollars I invested in the RCA Lyra RD1028 is more than worth it. The driver installed effortlessly on my laptop but I didn't use the music software that came with it. Using Windows Media Player it was a breeze to transfer, delete and edit songs between my Windows XP Pro laptop and the Lyra mp3 player.

The ability to add additional memory puts this player far ahead of others in its cost category. I added a 512MB SD Card to give me a total of 640MB storage space and already have just under 100 songs on mine. I think I have space for about 100 more. I'm not a music junkie so I didn't expect to get 500 songs on one mp3 player and launch my own radio station.

Battery life is amazing. I used mine round trip between Nassau and San Diego (8hrs each way) and it just going and going. Hey, I even saw a guy in First Class section with one - that really made me feel good about the Lyra. I finally got the battery indicator to blink but its still going.

The only draw backs that I have is that the side buttons are a bit arkward to get to and requires effort to press.

Overall, I highly recommend this for new and intermediate users.
