Customer Reviews:
Good for first MP3 players.......2006-06-02
The Rio Chiba was the very MP3 player I've ever gotten and it was pretty good, though I did have some issues with the software. The sound was good and it held a large amount of songs. The Rio fits into pockets and purses comfortably so the size is not an issue. In short, the Rio is great for beginners to the world of MP3s. I have an iPOD now and it isn't even comparable so I wouldn't recommend this to you if you've had a good MP3 player in the past. For the price, this is a fairly good MP3 player.
Rio Chiba 128M The Best!.......2006-01-26
I have bought over 5 mp3 players in the past year and my pride en joy is my rio.
I bought my 128mb Chiba off of ebay for about 40$ Refurbished, it looked brand new, and the support of these products is amazing. I had a 30 warrentee on it.
I accidently stepped on it, and messed up the joystick. So I called up RIO and I sent it off, and got a new/used refurbished one in 3 days. They even paid for my shipping. Also I upgraded the firmware.
Right now I have 512mb SD card in it. Works great. Sounds Amazing. Of couse it depends what kbs you compress the origonals down to.
Poop in four months.......2005-12-13
This mp3 player worked great for about four months. Then I dropped it about three feet onto soft carpet. Now it is a handy electronic device that can only display the word "Upgrader" when turned on. Rio customer support is terrible. After the warranty period of three months they wanted to charge me $100 to fix it, and they still wouldn't guarantee it. Their support gave predictable, repetitive advice that only tangently related to my problem. And I was also able to find more than a few other people with the SAME EXACT PROBLEM! I was not able to get a live response to my problem.
So I decided to try to fix it myself, by opening it up (voiding the warranty, but that is null at this point). Now I can get it to respond while the USB cord is plugged in. As far as a portable, mobile mp3 player goes - Nope.
I would never buy another product from Rio. Not because their cheap mp3 player is cheap, but because they do not support their products. I would be highly concerned that they would have the same terrible customer support should anything happen to ANY of their products.
Nice MP3 for the price.......2005-11-10
I can't complain about the product since I only paid $49.99 at Overstock(Sorry Amazon) and for an extra $6 I was able to get a 2 year extended warranty. Bought one for my daughter and my husband. I have yet to give it to them as I am waiting for Christmas, but I know they will both be thrilled. It is a great gift for a 10 yr old and a 38 yr old! I knew my 10 yr old would not need a player that was more than 256mb but my husband might. I am pleased that you can use an SD card to expand the memory. Since I already have some of those kicking around from other digital products, my husband will be all set!
5 Stars for the unit... 1 star for Rio's Customer service.......2005-09-07
I would have to agree completely that the unit is practical, light, compact and sounds very nice considering the size and prize range... The watchout: the Rio Music manager software can't encode mp3 songs unless you download an upgrade from the net which you can do only three times, so, if you change your computer or just want to install it more than three times you might as well forget about using mp3's.
Oh, calling customer service? right... I've been waiting for an answer 10 days and counting.
