RCA RD2800 10 GB Lyra Jukebox
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
The multifunctional RCA RD2800 Lyra Jukebox combines a digital audio player with a 10 GB hard drive, capable of storing any computer file--from graphics to presentations. With its 10 GB hard drive you can store over 150 hours of high-quality audio in MP3 format. Using the new mp3PRO format, which features the same quality as MP3 but with higher compression and smaller file size, the Lyra Jukebox can store over 300 hours of music.
The mp3PRO format compresses standard audio tracks using two separate streams of data without significantly compromising sound quality. An mp3PRO file created at 64 Kbps will sound similar to an MP3 file created at 128 Kbps, and will be half the size.
The Lyra Jukebox features a backlit, multiline display, five equalizer presets, and nine play modes. It comes with a set of stereo headphones. You can also plug the Lyra Jukebox into your stereo using the included line-out cable, or in your car with the included cassette adapter.
Create digital audio files with the included MusicMatch Jukebox software, which also enables you to organize your music library on your PC and create playlists. The Lyra Jukebox connects to your PC via a 1.1 USB cable (included) and is compatible with Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me, and XP.
The Lyra Jukebox is powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, and also includes a DC power adapter for use in the car.

Customer Reviews:
Problems with the unit.......2006-04-06
No Customer Support Anywhere.......2002-12-16
Still no mp3PRO support, but decent. Save up for an iPod........2002-10-27
On the plus side:
* Lot of storage
* Doesn't need any software to load - just appears as a drive letter in Win2000. I love that.
* The accompanying headphones are better than most portables - still not truly high quality though.
* Decent price for the storage
On the minus side:
* No mp3PRO support yet
* System crashes a lot with seemingly average jostling - I can't walk to the post office with it in my pocket without the system crashing. It's ok if tossed in a backpack though.
* Audible interference buzz - when the drive light flashes, you can hear it causing a bit of buzz in the headphones.
* The USB port is pretty obscure - I could not find a cable that matches the super small port. If you want to use it at home and work, you either have to carry the cable each way or maybe order another one from RCA
Another point which I have noticed is common with hard-drive based MP3 players, but surpised me when I got this was that ther battery is build in - so there is no way to carry a spare. With 10 gigs of storage, I had visions of extended listening "in the field" but that's just not possible. I love my rechargable AAs but they don't help here.
I have since purchased a 10GB iPod -- also uses a built-in battery -- which is otherwise vastly superior to the RCA, but at a higher price point. I'd recommend saving up for the iPod if you want a high capacity MP3 player if you have the means - but, in a crunch the RCA is not too bad.
An OK MP3 Player.......2002-10-04
It's OK, but ..........2002-09-30
The iPod, which costs just a little more, is far far more elegant and far far faster.
