3 out of 5 stars Good, but..........2003-02-23

I bought this Jukebox with the idea of replace my other Jukebox 6000, my digital camera and my camcorder and to have everything in one unit. The MP3 is excelent, Video files converted to the required format are acceptable, but the quality of photos taken and recorded video is very, very poor.
Then if you are thinking to buy this Jukebox like a video, photo and MP3 solution, don't sale your old digital camera and your camcorder, because you will need it!!!

4 out of 5 stars Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!.......2003-01-08

This is probably the coolest gadget that I own. Let me get my complaints out of the way before I extol the virtues of this fine piece of hardware. 1. FAT32. Why not NTFS? 2. The camera is typical of any camera that attaches to a handheld device. Without proper lighting, your pictures will be awful. Best if used in sunlight. Not for use indoors.
Now on to the good stuff.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to use this. My wife can do it and she knows virtually nothing about computers. Turn it on, plug it in and copy files over. It is that simple. Converting video is easy with the included software. You just pick the video to convert and type a file name in the destination and hit the start button. It is really not hard at all! This is mildly inconvenient, however, so I do it at night before bedtime. Wake up and Viola! Converted video. Of course the video out to TV is crappy. I don't think that this device was really meant to replace your DVD player. If you want to watch your AVI's on your TV go and buy a Video card with TV out for thirty or so dollars. This device was meant for portability and media on the go. Perfect for those long road trips, your doctor's waiting room, and phonecalls from your mother-in-law. The sound is great provided you have some nicer head phones than the ones that are provided. I must admit that I have used up most of the 20Gig but I have a ton of stuff on there. It's good for HOURS AND HOURS of entertainment. Don't hate it because you have buyers remorse due to price. Besides, IPod is twice the price for just an MP3 player. Love it because at least you have a protable HD, MP3 player, video player, camera, camcorder, and card reader in on small package. Trust me, buying all of this stuff separate can cost a fortune!

3 out of 5 stars Rugged little orphan.......2006-09-28

The Jukebox Multimedia is a rugged little orphan. I have dropped this player and Aux notepad drive from chest height a couple or three times (on solid concrete) over the course of the 4 yrs I've had it. Yes, those corner bumpers did well! My complaint is no, claimed available, software updates has ever materialised.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product !!!! Perfect !.......2004-04-09

I brought this product from bestbuy outlet with everything include the camera, for lke 100 less then amazon sell, don't buy from amazon, it cost too much here, I do respect most amazon product are cheap compare to most but not this one, product overall is great !, music and pictureis good and ez just drag in, but video boy, take a wonder to convert those to the play to work, the free software is useless for convert go get avs video conerter, that work best and remaind much its origial size. camera is horrible i admit, only picture quality is very basic 1.1 mega, but video just horrible, with no light, had many problem with color, sound is hard to record it. head phones is pretty good, has volume control which is pretty rare, kinda comfort, look cool, is not that bad as other revieer said. Overall it is worth for the price, if u rich u might wanna get the new version of this.

5 out of 5 stars the most bang for your buck.......2004-04-05

I got this bad boy for Christmas and it is by far my favorite computer peripheral device. Do yourself a favor if you get one of these and add a firewire or usb 2.0 card to your computer. If you don't and you have a lot of data to transfer, be prepared to wait awhile...the 12 mb/s of usb 1.1 is SLOOOOW.

The sound quality is awesome with this device, and the video output of properly encoded material is outstanding. For it to ALSO act as a 20 gig hard drive makes sure that this product stands head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.

If you really want one of these, do a little searching on the internet...it'll be worth your time.

1 out of 5 stars Screen Stopped Functioning after 10 months.......2004-01-15

Did even last a year. The screen stopped functioning after 10 months. It goes all white. I carried it around with me all over the place. I rode my bike with it and jogged with it but was always careful to keep if from getting bumped hard.

The Hard disk is fine ... it just the screen is "burning out" or something. I am going to try to get if fixed but it sounds like dealing with Archos support/tech is a royal pain.

This is a big disapointment to me.

I have transfered a lot of songs to the darn thing and now it is a paper weight on my desk.

When it worked I would give it 4 stars. It was great a transfering my photos from my CF card for storage on long vacations. It played lots of music.

The interface was funky and there was no way to play just the songs in a single directory and all that directories sub-directories randomly. To play Randomly you can play just one directory or all directories .. no option for one directory and it's subdirectories, so you can't setup like a Jazz tree with all your Jazz albums down below and then play all your Jazz songs randomly from all those albums.

I'm wondering if this device is really ready for primetime. It was a great idea but now I am out 300 bucks. That really really sucks big time.

4 out of 5 stars Im still glad I bought mine!!!.......2003-07-25

============================================================
I know you know what it can do so here are some downsides of the product:

1. Battery Life - LCD takes up lots of it, probably get 4-6 hours unless you keep it off the whole time and let ur MP3's play. I recommend that you set the screen to go blank as soon as it will let you set it to save battery energy. This is the only real reason why I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5.
2. Manufacturing Defects - Paint eventually chips in back (no biggie for me-yet) And the black rubbers on the corner aren't properly fastened to the device (of course you can just push them in a bit, but sometimes it bugs you).

Thats all that really bugs me.

Customer service is great if you have a little patience - I've already had to send my device in for a backlight repair (my fault) and it wasn't too much of a hassle.

The screen looks AMAZING for its size - don't worry about it.
Of course dust gets in there sometimes - just get a pressurized aircan and blow it out.

So overall you CANNOT take this thing to the beach (cuz of manufacturing) but its awesome for walking/siting around with.
How else can you get your daily Matrix?
