Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Unit!!.......2003-01-30

I've had this unit for around 2 years now, and it's been the best portable music device I've ever had.

For starters MD quality is quite good, while this is a portable recorder, the quality isn't as high as would be with full size decks, but it still compares well.

By the new standards ('03) this unit is LARGE, when I bought it, it was rather reasonable. However the scroll dial is it's best feature. Like the Apple iPod, you can easly scroll through the music on the disc. The dial also makes naming tracks much easier.

Apparently this unit is no longer available. But I would highly reccomend any MiniDisc unit. With newer MP3 players available, the MD is becomming sort of outdated for a person who wants to carry around their whole music collection. I've used this unit for many live sound applications (theater shows, recording) and MiniDisc is a highly advisable format for these purposes.
Also if you are constantly making new mixes of music, (like cheerleadrs, DJ's, etc.) the MD format allows you to re-write easly. (No need to start a CD coaster collection)
Recording quality isn't stealar, but it's not bad for a portable. Last advice, I'd stay away from the MDLP format, it's 5 hours (300 minutes) on the same size disc as the 74 minute units. (more music, same data space = more compression=lower quality)

2 out of 5 stars crummy track record.......2002-10-18

I started out pleased with the Sharp MD player. I found it easy to use and edit the discs. I used it for recording live music, interviews, MP3, old vinyl records. But, unfortunately in two years mine has broken twice. It no longer records, and it is getting kind of touchy about ejecting the discs. More work on the design of this thing needs to be done. It's not a durable piece of equipment.

5 out of 5 stars Great product, but..........2002-03-10

I've had my MD player for about 2 and a half years. It has been mostly reliable throughout these years. The remote clip broke off about 6 months ago, which is no big deal, and the jog dial has been working on and off for the past year. Two unnecessary but very helpful functions. Recently, I went to switch discs, and it would not come out. The front part seems to be caved in. I am going to try to fix it, but I'm not sure if I can. I've used it quite a bit, and I have been extremely happy with it. However, it is quite large and is kind of annoying to record from the internet and anywhere else. I suggest this product if you do not mind the heavier and bigger player, but other wise it's great. I would maybe suggest a newer MDLP recorder that can record much more onto a disc. Good luck!

2 out of 5 stars all the problems.......2002-02-26

i have this product and it was the most worthless thing i have bought the remote cracked while i was out at the boat and it also wouldn't record after the fist year . not the best produst but it has a great look

1 out of 5 stars MOST WANT TO HEAR ONLY PLESeaNT REviews BUT im HONEST.......2001-10-26

I have had this mini disc player for ... oh.. 4 months. It was really great the first 2 weeks. Everyone likes its the first couple weeks. BUt, like most people say, for ... it is to big, lumbersome, and not that convienent. The dial is easily moved accidently, inorder to record a song, you have to play the entire song. UNliKE ! the sony mini disc, it is big and cant compress files. THe sony can compress files and make the mini disc hold up to 80 songs!!! while the sharp holds 15. Im not saying this isnt a good mini disc, im saying that for the price, look around to see what else you can get that is smaller, lighter, and more functtions. I mean this mp3 player is bigger and heavier than my hold cs player!
