Amazon.com Product Description
The Aiwa AM-F70 Portable MD Recorder/Player is a portable recorder/player for minidiscs. Capable of both playing CD-quality sound as well as recording it, the Aiwa AM-F70's capabilities defy its 19.3-millimeter size. The Aiwa AM-F70 is equipped with 40-second antishock and Dyanmic Super Linear sound. It boasts a battery life of up to 40 hours and even has a three-point battery monitor so you'll know before the power runs out. Three-way input and the 20-bit digital/analog converter provide you with a host of recording options.
Playback functions include 25-track programmable play and a jog dial to get you to the exact song on the disc. The unit includes an AC adapter, a carrying case, headphones, rechargeable battery, and an LCD-backlit remote.
Product Description:
Aiwa's AM-F70 has a few unique features that set it apart from similarly-priced units. The most distinctive is an ice-blue backlit display on both the headphone cord and main player. Unlike other current portables, it also allows 2X playback at the same pitch in both mono and stereo (no "Alvin and the Chipmunks" syndrome). The F70's 40-second shock buffer makes the unit operate virtually skip-free - even if you're running. A special jog/shuttle makes titling tracks a bit easier. Recording is simple because the F70 has the ability to synchro start/stop (through both digital and analog inputs) as soon it detects source material. There are a number of playback options, including programming tracks (Sharp's MD units don't have this feature) and a title search function that lets you look for and queue one track while another plays. Titling can take place while you listen, too. Aiwa elected to include a pair of Swoops neckband headphones, in-ear versions of Sony's street style headphones. As far as battery life goes, Aiwa claims you can get up to 40 hours of playback time (16 hours recording) if you connect the external battery case (requires three AA batteries). That's tops for MD recorders. It features one-point stereo microphone. Time mark function automatically marks a recording every five minutes, so it's easy to scan a recording of a long meeting or lecture to find key passages.

A good minidisc player.......2002-01-16
Wish it had a belt clip, was lighter.
Never use the carrying case (it's a bag with a drawstring), optical cable (my stereo's not good enough to have an optical out)
Hate that it takes as long to record as tapes do, and that I can almost never record for the entire 74 minutes of a disc. I mean I can but when I play it back it starts to skip after about 50 minutes.
I also had trouble with the door on mine (one day it stopped opening), and the discs no longer eject themselves when I open it, I have to stick my finger in and pull them out.
It can skip too.
The poor man's DAT beats the alternatives like a bass drum.......2000-05-11

Coolbeans!.......2000-02-14
About the only complaints that I have are: One, the remote could use a little bit of work, due to the fact that the cord lengths aren't the best. And two, the external battery pack is kind of big, but I rarely use it anyway.
Some of the nicest features it offers are: The headphones...they're really awesome, and have pretty nice sound as well. Even though the external battery pack is big, the 40hours of playback time is REALLY nice. And lastly, the ease of use...I read through the manual in about 10 minutes and started recording my first MD.
If you're thinking about getting a minidisc player, this is one of the best ones out there!
