I got this as a present for my husband. He hasn't complained about any aspect of it yet. I'm sure others can give a better review, as I've not used it myself-but he learned how to upload pics and add music relatively easily and changes it often. I would recommend this.

Great alternative to Ceiva Frame.......2007-06-28

I've had a Ceiva brand digital photo frame for almost 5 years. The Ceiva has been a lot of fun, but requires a recurring subscription charge that was increased to $99.95 a year in 2007.

Although this frame doesn't offer remote internet management, it does offer a wide variety of card input options and even has a USB port.

Thank you very much to Chukchiboy for the suggestion to use the freeware program XnView to resize the pictures to 480x234. This improves the display quality and allows you to store a large amount of photos on a card. I've got an old 16 MB compact flash card that I wasn't using anymore and now it has a use again!

I haven't used the sound option and seems like that would get old pretty quick having the same music come from a photo frame. I couldn't expect the sound quality would be much good from such small speakers either.

I'm very pleased with the cost of this frame. If it breaks after a couple years (and I won't be surprised if it does) I will have still saved a lot of money compared to the Ceiva.

The picture frame is very nice. I simply put a memory stick in and it shows all my pictures in a slide show. I would even buy it as a gift for someone. The only thing is that it is made of plastic. I would probably buy something in a different material. But all in all it's a great frame.

Compared to other products we tried (and returned), this digital screen was great. Fairly easy to use and high res display. We are only using it for pictures at present but frame is capable of more. Only issue we had is that you can't expand the picture to fill the screen when the pics are in slideshow mode. I would buy again and probably will be buying the 7" version as a gift for another family member.

For the price, this one does more than a more expensive metal frame from another company. Yes it's plastic but it didn't matter. It was soooo easy to use and makes a wonderful gift for parents and grandparents!! As soon as I loaded some pictures and music and played the slideshow...everyone cried! The music capability really ads sentiment to your slideshow. I am ordering more now so I'll have all my Christmas shopping done! You can put different themed pictures on different memory cards too. For example, I'm putting together a memory card for my parents of just pictures of them for their anniversary. For Christmas, I'm going to put Christmas themed pictures together with Christmas music. Then you can change out the memory cards to go with the season. Then 10" screen is nice for those with less than perfect eyes. Although your pictures don't always fill the whole screen. The picture quality is perfect for what it is and the price. I don't usually fill out reviews when I shop but because I did the research on them, ordered two, compared them and chose this one, I thought I'd share.

Coby MP3 player.......2007-06-27

For the price, I feel this is a great product. It is easy to use and multi-functional. I was able to store over 220 songs on the MP3 player and the FM tuner works great. The battery life is also exceptional. I've gotten over 10-15 hours playtime with one AAA battery. The only downfall is that it doesn't come with an accessory to attach it to you while you are listening to it.

Nothing wrong with it for the money. Does just what I expected it
to do: play music No problem dumping files from my pc to the device.
Turn it on and it starts playing. A small learning curve to allow access
to all the options available - not intuitive. Simple enough when you
learn how. I'm not qualified to evaluate its audio qualities, but it
suits me. One thing though, it could use a clip to attach to clothing.

I thought I had finally found a reasonably priced, simple reliable 1 GB mp3 player I could also use as a flash drive. I bought it for 29.99 at circuit city 5/26, everything was great until the main power switch stopped working yesterday, 6/11. I checked it out and saw that the switch had been sheared off of the printed circuit board by the force of pushing the button. Now it is junk as far as being a music player, 16 days after I bought it. If I feel like hassling with trying to return it, I will update this review to say how that went. Mfr's warranty says I can mail it back with $6 for warranty service . I'm not sure if its worth $6 for a new one because the design looks really weak and it would probably break again. For now I'll go back to using my old indestructible 128mb Coby mp3 player that I paid $15 for; too bad it only holds 2 hours of music.

Edit (6/16/07): Ok so I went back to store and got a hassle-free exchange for a new one, and I'm perfectly satisfied with product for now as long as it doesn't break again. I opened up the first one when it broke, and I saw the switch just snaps on to 2 plastic pins on the circuit board and is soldered in place. They probably should have used a drop of superglue or epoxy or something to make sure the switch can't come loose. If I hadn't had that problem I would have given it 3 or 4 stars. All I want from this thing is to be simple, cheap and reliable. Its simple enough (though I'd rate the ease of navigation as only fair), and it was the first one that was cheap enough that I would buy it (I commend the marketers of mp3 players for selling so many of them for so much for so long- I thought they'd be a lot cheaper by now. The shelf price on the one I exchanged for my broken was 49.99, which I would never have considered paying for this thing when Amazon has it for 30.99). Now the reliability has to be seen.

As long as it doesn't break its about as good a deal as is out there right now as far as I'm concerned. I don't think there's any point in going for a top of the line mp3 player since you don't normally listen to them in an environment where you could tell any slight differences in sound quality anyway. I listen to it with earphones while I'm working outside and I'll also plug it into a good old stereo receiver at my house with a nice pair of speakers and it sounds just great to me. 512MB would have been plenty of music storage capacity, thats over 8 hours worth and I can swap it out with other music in my music library on the computer any day of the week if I want. I wanted the 1GB capacity for use as a flash drive.

If you like to fiddle with or admire your mp3 player you might want to
pay more for something that you like the way the buttons go better or is more prestigious and will make your friends think you have money to burn but if you just enjoy hearing music this should make you happy if it doesn't break.

I should also add that this thing has directions for synching it up with Windows media Player and it supposedly plays WMA files as well as mp3s and works with all the DRM stuff that comes with music you buy online. I have no opinion on any of that since I don't waste my time with Windows Media Player except to rip CDs and I don't collect copy-protected files or anything other than 128 kps mp3s. Most all my mp3s are ripped from my CD collection or recorded with the computer from LPs and cassettes. The few things I've bought online I rerecorded as mp3s without all the DRM stuff because the mp3 player before this one didn't play WMAs.

This is perfect for casual non audio-phile indoor/outdoor use. I bought this to have some tunes outside while myself and a few other workmen are restoring a barn on my property. It is exactly what I needed. I wanted something I didn't mind getting a bit messed up (paint splatters, dings, etc). It's small, lightweight, inexpensive and very functional. The sound quality is decent (especially outdoors with other ambient noise) and though it definitely doesn't have some cooler features (shuffle, etc), it works great for what I wanted it for. I was worried after I read some of the reviews (after I purchased it) that it didn't come with a power cord, but mine did, so I was very happy I didn't have to go out and find one that fit, though I imagine that wouldn't have been that difficult at Radio Shack or some other type of store. All around, I'd say it's a 4 stars for what it is. If you're expecting amazing indoor sound, I'd rate it lower, but it's obviously for pool-side or kids room style use. And if you rate it on what it's meant to be used for, it's decent.

It's little, it's portable, and it's cheap...exactly what we needed. No, the sound it not spectacular, but we weren't looking for audiophile quality. My wife wanted a way to take her music with her around the house and even into the backyard, but she didn't want to use an mp3 player with headphones because she may not be able to hear our little daughter. This little player was perfect. It's tiny, lightweight, and round and verges on being cute. And when it's not roaming the house it sits on the bathroom counter and provides shower tunes. And if it dies in a few months, it was cheap enough to replace without much remorse...

Need a magnifying glass to read the text on the screen. Very unfriendly controls. To make it complete, it didn't function properly. Have to send it back to manufacturer and hope for the best since Amazon's return ploicy on open items isn't very nice. Stay away from this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this for the Mp3 capability. Not only does it do that well, it sounds incredible when used in my car. Only complaint is that it does take about 10-15 seconds to skip songs sometimes and tends to "stutter" a little when playing from one song to the next. Aside from that, this is a great CD player.

I bought it for my sister to play CD's and MP3's. She and bro in law aren't all that computer saavy, so this appeared easier than MP3 hard drive and having to download off computer. I actually hadn't used one like this before, so had to learn myself. We put in MP3 disc and it started to play, no problem. Skipped ahead and back when asked to do so. I didn't check all features in short space of time, but basic features worked great. I have a Creative Muvo Slim which is a better way to go for computer saavy, but this unit is good introduction to format.

Like the idea but the item was cheap.......2007-06-27

I had the wrong disc error that many people had. We ordered the item just before flying to New York, and had it shipped over night so our sons could watch movies on the plane. Well, the first one played with out a problem, then the next one started the errors. I had read this was possible and had other items to entertain the kids so it was no big deal. Really wish this one had worked because the batery powered player at this low cost would be great even if it only lasted a year... It did seem really well built.

I purchased two of these coby players around christmas 2006. These were great little players for about 4 months then they started acting up....not wanting to play the dvd giving a "wrong disc error" this happed off and on ( i contacted coby but the warranty was already past they would do nothing) then about 6 months old (june 2007)they have completely quite working.

"Wrong Disk" error after using it twice.......2007-06-23

Looks nice, which is why I bought it. After using it for only two, very long car trips with my toddler we started getting the "wrong disk" error message - and it's out of warranty because it sat in a drawer for 4 months (unused). We only played 3 or 4 DVDs on it and it was treated very delicately. Other issues: Gets very hot, the power button is covered by the headrest mounting fabric case, and even if under warranty you pay shipping fees for something THEY did wrong. I would NOT recommend this unit to anybody!

This is probably a good item, but I needed a TV

Reading the other reviews, I understand that I'm even one of the lucky ones!

I purchased my TF-DVD7050 on May 2006 and it stopped working just one year after.

During those 12 months my 5-yr.-old has used it extensively, dropped it on the floor and mishandled it in quite a few ways. I even hacked the region-coding so it had become a region-free player. It worked very fine. Then, suddently the picture became in B&W, then nothing at all. The buttons on the screen also failed to work. I can still use it with the remote and attaching it to a TV with the cable supplied.

Fiddling with it I understood that the cause is probably the tiny wires connecting the screen to the body of the device.

Living in Italy, I don't have any way to receive assistance from Coby. I contacted them with 4 emails: 2 to customer service and 2 to tech-support. I hoped to get some advice for having it repaired by a technician here. I NEVER received an answer!!!

First I thought to buy another one, but then reading the reviews here on Amazon, I realized that the product has probably become worse during these last few months. That's the reason I sayed I'm one of the lucky ones...

I will have to look for a quality brand and spend more :-(

It's a pity, it had so many features, great screen image and the price was just right. Farewell Coby, you'll NEVER see me again!

Don't Waste Your Money.......2007-05-05

I bought this CD Player in both the yellow and the blue for my daughters, and both are a piece of junk. Oh, they work o.k. if you are sitting still and holding the jack for the ear phone in just the right spot. But I have borrowed both of them for my evening walks and they suck. Any movement at all make the CD skip. I don't know about most people but if I'm sitting at home I play my CD on my stereoor computer. It's when I'm out walking or shopping that I use a discman. The only upside to this is that if the kids break or lose them it won't be any big loss for the price or quality.

Completely Defective.......2007-03-29

The CD worked fine when I first got it. I played it about 5 times and then it just clicked off after about 1 minute. I tried different CDs, read the instructions through, and it just doesn't work! Since I threw away the packaging and receipt as soon as I got it, I can't apply for a refund or return it so I really lost out here. I definitely would warn you not to buy this item. Or at least keep your receipt and the packaging so you can send it back if it quits after six playings like mine did. I also will probably not buy anything else by Coby unless I can get a guarantee of return/refund if it doesn't work.

Thin and light, inexpensive and adequate, providing..........2007-03-18

I'd had it up to here with three Panasonics and a Sony personal CD player which, despite costing as much as eighty bucks each, were beginning to skip, repeat, get stuck, and accept some CD's but not others. Rather than hold my breath each time I fed a CD to one of the players, I decided that for ten-fifteen bucks this one was a better deal, even if I end up replacing it every six months.

So far so good. It's playing the CDs my other players were rejecting. The headphones are OK, but you'll probably want to pitch them in favor of the cheap ones that came with a previous Panasonic or Sony. There's no buffer whatsoever, so don't plan on using it on the go. It doesn't have AC, but the batteries install easily and quickly from the bottom, rather than from the inside (a bad design feature of some machines). There are no inputs/outputs other than the headphone jack, but that's all you need to input it to another amp-speaker. The buttons are tiny and don't project from the surface--definitely inconvenient for klutzes or for night-time use, especially given its featherweight, fly-away lightness. There's no gratuitous "bass boost" or other useless add-ons.

So take it slow and steady, keep extra double A's on hand, order whatever color is cheapest, and hope to enjoy trouble-free service from this little plastic frisbee long enough to recoup your investment.

[UPDATE: This thing is still playing the disks that confound my $40-80 older Panasonics and Sonys. HOWEVER: 1. The lack of buffer protection will cause the sound to be interrupted by even slight movements, so it's not for joggers or skateboarders; 2. I'm getting no more than TEN hours playing time from two alkaline batteries which, when combined with the lack of an AC option, could make this a costly proposition unless you're alternating two sets of rechargeable batteries. A bit of a nuisance and now you may be spending enough to get a skip-free machine with AC adaptor.]

Amazing! Incredible! Super Deal!.......2007-06-15

First of all, this device is awesome! It works beautifully, and does everything they said it would. Apparently there are two versions of this product, both with the same product number. the earlier version sucks, but the one I received, as I said before is great. Sound quality is great on the FM radio function, and it has 20 slots to preset stations. It even has the ability to save all the clear stations for you. There is an awesome equalizer function in the options menu, which is sweet compared to other mp3 players with only 5-6 preset settings. The 12 hour battery is nice, it takes about 3 hours to fully charge. Some stores that sell this say that 5,000 songs is the max, but if you convert them to wma, it holds around 10,000 songs. The navigation system takes a little getting used to but that doesn't take long, and they are very detailed. Transferring songs over is as easy as using a usb flash drive, just drag and drop. Overall, I love this device and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap, powerful mp3 player.

Good value, but no accessories and so-so case........2007-02-06

This is an ideal mp3 player for someone who wants to take their music collection with them but is on a budget. I wasn't about to spend a bundle on an iPod and didn't want to use iTunes software, so I picked this one as a low-cost alternative. As with most mp3 players, the earbuds they supply with the player aren't that great, so I hooked up my Labtec headphones to it and it sounded fine for classical and jazz music. Has a sturdy look and feel to it. If you have Windows XP or a newer version of Mac OS you don't have to install any drivers--your pc will detect it as an external hard drive. You can just drag and drop your music files into the drive window and off you go! It easily read the format folders I made for classical, jazz, new age, audio books, etc and stored my files in nice neat order. There are two ways to charge the unit--either with supplied USB cable or the AC adapter. The transfer speed (USB 2.0) is quite fast given the size of the hard drive. I was able to transfer my entire music collection from my CDs to the player quickly. One of the best features of the unit is a line-in outlet (cable included) that will let you plug it into any audio device with a headphone jack and convert the output to mp3 files. This is especially handy for those who want to record their old LPs, 78s, and tapes to mp3 files for archiving. The FM tuner is also a nice compliment. Reception of local stations and sound quality are good. It may not be a McIntosh 1700 receiver, but for something this size it sounds decent with a good pair of headphones or earbuds. The only downside to the player is that there are no accessories I can find anywhere for it--no silicone skins to protect it, no apecially designed tabletop systems to fit it into (as with iPods), and the carrying pouch it comes with is only good for storage to keep the dust off. There are also no protective screen covers for it, so be careful about scratching or dropping it. Other than these very minor issues, it's a great player for the price!

why so many bad reviews?.......2006-12-24

I am a college student who travels a lot (home is on the other side of the USA) so this mp3 player is GREAT. I haven't even used 1/2 the memory and I have ALL my music on it. It's great for on the airplane and for roadtrips, I just connect it to the car speakers with one of those tape connector things. THe radio works great too and I can record songs off the radio and onto the mp3 player. I love it and found it a lot easier to use than my old iPod or my Creative Nomad mp3 player.

First, for those who only read the first line, if you are not a patient person with electronics and computers, then this unit is not for you. But if you can navigate computers well, and can easily troubleshoot computers, then this is a very good unit for you.

The price of this unit is dropping like hotcakes. I got this for $100 bucks brand new from a chain store. Very good value. 20gb of storage, and easy to load and use, once you figure out all of the fuctions. It transfers files fast, and you can create sub folders on the root directory to get nice and orderly. the menu functions are easy to navigate, and the settings are easy as well. large, well lit display showing the names of the music clearly. Fast transfer as well. I had no luck with windows media player playlists, but at least the customer support was very good about responding to all my questions. Windows media just would not "sync" with this unit, or recognize it was there to make a playlist to. I did find that musicmatch playlists work for this unit. You have to create a playlist from files on the unit itself, then save it, then pull the actual playlist file by drag and drop over to the unit into the playlist folder, and boom it works. Overall, the value and functionality of the unit outweight the time it took to learn how to maximize the utillity from it. Good buy if you get it for the price I did. This model will soon be obsolete, and is quickly being discontinued soon due to new models coming out.

The Biggest waste of Money.......2006-04-07

This is the worst item I have ever purchased. If you feel like throwing away $175 save yourself the shipping cost and just open your trash can. The item was great for about 12 hours of total listening prior to the music stopping in the middle of a song and never turning back on. Yes, it was fully charged at the time. My best advice, spend the extra money and buy something better. This is a very expensive piece of garbage. DO NOT BUY!!!

With no mode settings(repeat, shuffle, etc) or shock protection, this cd player is pretty undesirable, but if you're just looking for something to hold you over then this'll do. It has all the basic features of a cd player of course and it works alright. It could be with just mine, but every pair of headphones, new and old, that I use with it, the left begins to malfunction although when using those same headphones in another cd player or speakers, they work fine. Like I said, if you just want a temporary thing then I guess this is good for you.

I thought this item came with or you had a choice of color. It did not. It is silver with black trim. It is also not very portible, you have to play it while its sitting on a flat, level surface.

Bought this for my boyfried for Christmas. He seems to like it. I think if it's not snugly held (either by hand or in a pocket or something) it tends to skip, but not to badly.

I like the uncomplicated control and the light weight. It is exactly what I was looking for: to lie in bed and listen to relaxing CDs. For $13.95 (and I got free shipping) I couldn't beat it (silver color). The headphones feel good. They don't have much bass. The player does not have any adjustments beyond the volume control. Requires two AAs.

all the reviews on this page are pretty accurate. there is a lot of noise that comes from the dvd playing. the picture is great but the sound leaves a lot to be desired. ok unit for the kids in the backseat to keep them entertained on long car rides.

Nice little multi-region player.......2007-04-24

I was really pleased with this unit especially since I am not a tech-geek and the only thing I knew I wanted was something user friendly to play PAL and NTSC dvds with good picture quality and good sound that wouldn't break the bank. I read reviews on multiple websites until my eyes crossed and I realized that for just about every unit made, whatever the price range, the complaints are the same. So I took my chances with this one and I am absolutely delighted. The picture is crisp and true (no stretching the actors to fit the screen), the sound is clear, and yes, there is a whirring noise but it really isn't that bad. The build quality is fine (as long as you aren't slamming the thing shut repeatedly or throwing it to the floor) and the menu is easy to navigate. I had to call COBY (1-800-681-2629) to find out why it wouldn't play PAL dvds even though I'd switched the menu setting. It turns out you have to have the cheat code. Here it is-on the remote press

at this point the screen will have a small number in the upper right part of the screen. Use the right arrow on the remote to switch the number until you get the region code you want. Then press setup to exit.

I tried it and it works so I'm a really happy camper. All in all, this is a great little player for the money. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this as a gift or recommend it to a friend.

The DVD Player arrived within the time promised, in excellent condition, as I have come to expect from Amazon. It worked well right out of the box, and I have no cause for complaint. Operation is easy, picture is excellent, and sound is very good. I will have no reservations about giving this as a gift. It works.

Portable DVD.......2007-03-25

Received very quickly; had all items needed for travel, i.e., power plug for cigarette lighter, 2 sets of headphones, wires to hook up to TV set which is good b/c you can hook it up to the TV at a hotel, of course it came w/ a battery and charger and the swivel screen turns it completely around and folds flat onto itself so you can place it into the the "satchel" that came with it and hang it from the back of a head rest. Not an extra item to purchase for this unit besides your DVDs and a carrying case. Very glad I chose this player.
