I really wanted this for the tv tuner because I like to listen to tv where I work. Unfortunately I don't think the tuner is so hot. The cd player is fine-good sound etc. But the tv tuner is very hard to tune in and I was disappointed that something like this didn't come with an adapter for saving battery power. The fm reception is also not so hot-very hard to tune in fm stations and nothing at all on am. Sorry but this one's just so-so for me.

I'm very sorry to report that this CD player didn't work. I was surprised since I've always like Sony products.

First of all whenever I put a CD or an MP3 disc into the player it made a chirping sound regularly and skipped pretty consistently. I tried several discs with the same problem. I consulted the Sony website and worked through the troubleshooting suggestions and it still did not work. I bought it at Target for $49.99 and returned it today for a full refund.

I didn't give it one star because when it did play it sounded great. The earbuds were comfortable and stayed in my ears. The radio sounded very good too. The TV sound was terrible and was only able to pick up channel 5 in Los Angeles.

The other thing was the controls. The buttons were too small and very difficult to work. It was not intuitive at all! If this player had worked I probably would have lived with it. But since the one I bought was defective, I will not buy another one. I'm looking for another player with more simplified control buttons.

Sony has other units out there. I would recommend that you skip this one and get something else.

I really appreciate the ATRAC compression system available on Sony's products. I sprend a great deal of time riding a bicycle and the fact that you can compress 10 audio CDs on one ATRAC CD results in more riding and less fiddiling with changing CDs.

I purchased this player because my other Sony Atrac player's screen went kaput. So I knew what I was getting. They are great for the Atrac system that allows you to place about 24 hrs of music on one CD.

Emerson Radio/ CD player.......2007-07-01

I have had two of these. The first I returned because it would stop playing in the middle of a cd. The second one may or may not play depending upon whatever it seems to feel like doing. I was very disappointed in this product.

I give it 4 stars because i've only had it a month.
I use this in a very portable way, to play music as i travel to provide chair massage.
The player is lightweight and very slim in profile, making it very portable.
The sound is really great, especially from just one speaker.
The components and all the buttons and doors are solid and seem very well-made.
The radio transmission is great, especially in my house (and basement especially which has transmission issues).
A great player, and economical. If it lasts, it will be an awesome find!

Good for the money.......2007-06-15

We use this unit for the CD player only. Haven't had any problems in 6 months. We haven't quite figured out how to "loop" the playing yet, if that is possible. A little bit heavy but good sound. Would recommend since there aren't too many units like this that do not require headsets for portable listening.

I was quite disappointed with this product. I have owned other Emerson products in the past, and usually their products are of decent quality. The design and footprint were very nice, but the product didn't function as it should. I found that CD's (in good condition) will skip when the player has been playing for an extended period of time. Mine was playing steadily for about an hour or two when the CD's started skipping. I switched CD's twice, and the skipping just got worse.

Good CD player BAD radio.......2007-06-02

The first CD player had such bad FM radio reception that I contacted Sony and was told to return it. I got another one, and the FM reception is almost as bad, so I've realized that it is the player itself. There is an incredible amount of bleed-over from one station to another even though it has a digital tuner. It is not just a matter of poor reception. The stations play fine on other portable devices; it's that the radio on this player is VERY POOR.

Two Sony Style employees told me that Sony is not making any more portable tape players (the last were made in Nov 2006) and they are soon going to phase out their ATRAC and mp3 CD players. If you are looking, grab this unit (or two if you can) because it won't be long before they are unavailable. I think the $60 price reflects this.

The unit is constructed well with a solid case, a beautiful finish and easy to access buttons. The buttons also have a solid feel, and they are recessed. You won't be hitting them on accident. The unit has a hold switch on the back, so hitting buttons on accident shouldn't be an issue anyway. There's a seal around the lid, so it is water resistant. I find comfort in this because I have a three-year old son.

FM reception is very good for a portable unit. A few years ago, it was difficult to find FM on a portable, despite the fact that companies had been making portable CD players since the early 90's. AM reception is good too if that is your thing.

I usually don't pay much attention to the included headphones, but this pair is great. If I use my iPod headphones as a comparison, the Sony headphones are much better. They have a nice airy sound with good reproduction, and the iPod headphones have a flat lifeless reproduction. When you are playing a good CD it almost seems as if the sound is all around you.

I look at the mp3 feature as "icing on the cake." I do use mp3s, but the whole point of this purchase was to hear the higher sound quality of CDs. If I wanted to hear mp3s, I'd use my smaller iPod. BUT I did create a few mp3 CDs to test the quality and the ease of use and the unit did very well. There's a "group" button that allows the user to jump from folder to folder and it works well. I have an older Sony CD player with mp3 playback and it was very difficult to change directories. Here everything is simplified and useful. My only gripe with the mp3 feature is that the name of the song is not displayed on the LCD screen. The engineers opted to show them as track numbers. So it's hard to know what album you are on when you are looking at track 63. This is only a minor complaint.

Another drawback is the lack of TV playback. Other Walkman units have this feature and I wonder why Sony didn't just throw it in for good measure.

Overall, I give this CD player 5 stars because it delivers well in everything it does. Great AM/FM, high sound quality, solid construction, user friendly, optional DC jack, nice headphones and MP3 playback. Well worth the asking price. I would have paid double!

A Super Durable CD Player.......2007-05-22

This player is excellent. I have never had a bad sony player in over 20 yrs. My old ones still work but did not have CD back then yet.
Nice design and color with wriststrap which is very important to get used to wearing so as not to forget player. Develop good habits to take care of it and it should last a long time. Although the description says it does not have an AC adaptor ability I would like to inform that it does have an AC input plug to use to not always have to need batteries. But adaptor is not included so we must buy it.
I love my player and can walk miles a day with my Freestyle music driving me ever onward. It takes a beating and does not miss or skip beats. It is remarkable.

I stopped buying portable CD players for a long time because they always had rotten AM/FM reception. Sometimes I am right under the Empire State Building and sometimes I am in NJ. So it always happens that on FM I need excellent strong signal ability and good weak signal ability. You don't always get both, even with a local/DX setting. This radio performs adequately in both environments. It isn't the most sensitive radio on the block, but when you set it to local, it doesn't fold up and die in the city. The CD player runs well for many many hours on 2500 mAhr NiMh. Get a good set of them and never waste your money on regular batteries again. The supplied headphones are the around the ear lobe type and sound good. I killed mine in 1 day when the cord got caught on a door knob, that's the story of my life with headphones. Sound quality from CD is very good, I noticed a slight lack of extreme highs when using th G force protection, but that went away when I set that to off. Shocks don't seem to be a bother to the player with it off, but I don't jog. Besides, you cant judge fidelity if you are running. It's a good machine, I like it, I don't leave home without it and a bunch of CD's. Four stars because it could be a little more sensitive on AM.

Sadly we received the product broken. It wouldn't play beyond the half way mark of any cd. In requesting a replacement the company returned the money without any comunication. It was rather strange but they refunded the money so one cant't complain.

We bought this for our 6 year olds birthday present. We think it is excellent value for money and he just loves it. We had no problems with missing parts etc. The sound quality is not great but for the price it is exactly what we wanted

Buyer Beware.......2007-02-01

I ordered the Colby CX-CD241 portable CD player for my 8 year old nephew -- along with a CD - for his birthday. When it arrived, the AM/FM Radio worked, but the CD player did not. This unit was obviously not tested prior to its release. My nephew was so upset that he wasn't able to listen to the CD he has been asking for. Talk about a terrible birthday gift! What a tease. I would have been better off not buying anything at all than "half a gift" that was of no use to him. In the meantime, I'm still waiting for Amazon to send a label so I can return this piece of crap. I will never buy anything branded Colby in the future.

Amazon -- Unfortunately, I'm associating you with your affiliation to Colby. You would be better off dropping their products. Don't let them drag you down with them.

I bought this CD Player for my daughter for a Christmas Present. The radio works fine. The tape player works find. But the CD player will only run 30 min. and then it turns itself off. Something wrong there. Won't buy another one. I am very upset about this seeing my daughter lives far away from here. Can't do much about it now. So we are stuck with something that don't work.

ATRAC3plus is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space (you'll get around 490 songs per disc at 48 kbps).

The D-NS707F delivers a whopping 51 station presets, which works out to 30 FM, 10 AM, 4 WB, and 7 TV stations so you're never far from your favorite channels. You can hook the player up with your home system through an optional analog stereo "Y" interconnect.

Digital Mega Bass Sound boosts your music's low end without high clarity and low distortion, and there's also a built-in equalizer with 3 preset curves and 1 customizable setting. The Sony ATRAC is great, easy to walk/run when I go outside to exercise. I prefer to listen to books and many have copy protection so I can not download. I have no problems with skipping and it's light weight and the hand holds give me confindence that I am not going to drop my CD player.

Allright for a CD player.......2007-02-27

I have also found this player to be cumbersome and hard to operate. I happen to be a bit taller than the average man, and also have problems with the short cord on the headphones pulling the earpieces out of my ears. Also, the screen doesn't light up, so night time use is out. Overall, I liked the product, but I'm a little embarrassed to carry it around because everyone else has iPods. It's bulky, but I've never had problems using it as a cd player and it picks up more stations than my car.

Works well, but not very durable.......2006-10-20

All the electronic functions on this are fine, just what you'd expect from Sony. Where it fails is the hardware. Sooner or later the handle starts coming apart. Planned obsolesence or poor design, who can tell? If you never put it in luggage or your pocket, and and just hold it in your hand, it will last much longer.

Also, it is designed to keep out water--which is great. But if you have arthritis or just week hands, it can be harder to open than many jars, especially as it gets older. The display is pretty dim too, so it would be almost impossible for someone with impared vision to use, what with all the menus involved in tuning the radio and setting stations.

With all that said, it's a pretty good machine. It just could be more durable and user-friendly.

The best I have ever had.......2006-05-09

I have not encountered any of the problems other reviewers have had. To prevent the screen becoming scratched, put a piece of clear Scotch tape over it. True, the strap is bulky, but you don't have to hold it; I loop it through my pants belt with the controls facing upwards, then I can control everything with one finger without even looking at the unit. I wear it all day long and love it. I have noticed that it is very complicated to enter programs into the memory, but I just keep it at the stations on MA, FM & TV that I like the most. The station memories remain intact while you change batteries, and mine have always worked perfectly, irrespective of which disc I am playing. Perhaps I just get the good ones, but I am on my 5th one, having used and given away as gifts the others, which never failed to work perfectly, after being constantly bumped, dropped and splashed on. I cannot find anything else made by anyone else that comes near this quality. Keep your receipt; If you get a defective one, return it and try another. This is America! Way to go, Sony!

If you are a person who has small hands be advised that this product will be hard to lock the cd cover. Additionally the hand strap which is not visible in the picture will not really adjust to small hands.

Piece of junk - broke in a few months........2006-10-31

My father bought this boombox a few months ago. It worked great when he first bought it- everything worked, the sound was great etc. Now, when I play a CD is makes a whirring, scratching sound but it still plays the CD. Also, when I play a CD nothing shows up on the panel where it tells you what track your on or how long you are into the CD. It's blank and nothing shows up. And, the radio stopped working. I was trying to listen to the radio one day and it didn't work. There was nothing wrong with the antennae and I never dropped it or did anything to destroy it. It shows me the radio station but nothing plays, even though the volume is all the way up.

Overall, this boombox is a piece of junk. Played the first few months and now the radio doesn't work, neither does the CD playing properly. Do not buy this product, yo9u will regret it and ask for a different one.1 out of 5 stars.

I bought one of these and the remote lasted for three hours and then stopped working.
I took it back to Best Buy and got another radio. The remote works but the radio only worked for about five minutes. The CD plays but the radio doesn't work at all.
I am taking it back and buying a different brand

Worked fine for 4-5 weeks, then completely stopped working. It turned on, could change radio stations, could play cd, only problem is only a slight hum would come out of the speakers, nothing else. RCA said send it back for a new one. Can't wait to see how long the new one lasts.

We bought this boombox based on the previous review. I think we got a lemon! The box sounds Great, just as the previous review said. But, The first day we had it the CD started skipping. The second day the antenna broke off just above the attachment point. I contacted RCA and thought "no problem" it's under warranty. RCA told me to contact a service center and have my credit card number ready. Nope... Not paying for Anything that is supposed to be under warranty. Great idea RCA, sounds really Good while it worked (two days), but it's JUNK made with cheap parts! Save your money.

great bass in a small package & remote control too.......2005-10-12

I was looking for a boombox to use as a stereo system for my daughter's room. The one feature she insisted on was a remote control, so we looked at the RCD147.

We went to Best Buy (the price there is $40) and I tuned all the boomboxes to the same radio station to compare the sound. The RCD147 blew away everything else comparable at Best Buy for how loud it would play and for the bass, including a larger SONY model costing $70.

We like the looks and size of this box. We wanted one that didn't have cassette - my daughter doesn't play cassettes, and we didn't want to pay for a feature we don't use (not to mention all the extra button clutter).

The POWER BOOSTER switch lets you turn the power boost off to conserve battery life, but we run it on AC, so the feature stays on. The FM has digital tuning, another feature we like. The digital display points forward rather than at an upward angle, making it hard to see sometimes, but other than that, it's hard to find fault with this model. (It won't play MP3 disks either, but we don't care.)

Hearing the bass thumping from my daughter's room, I think I may have created a monster.

Not pleased.......2007-07-03

This was a cheaply made Sony CD walkman. The reception is not good. The programming of the radio stations was not easy.
The quality of the item surprised me, being its a SONY.

Very poor.......2006-05-13

I expected a Sony product to be good in quality considering the two previous player's I've had, but I was very disappointed.

First off, the shell itself is flimsy. When I bought the product I thought it must have been cheap, but I decided to give Sony the benefit of the doubt and stick by my purchase.

Second: It sucks batteries dry in no time. The cd player I owned prior to this one was left playing for a day or two straight (accidentally of course) and it still took about a week and a half before battery power began to drop. Keep in mind that this player was also a '97 model that I picked up in '03 from JandR.

With the D-FJ003 I have to change batteries within the week and I usually have it playing 1 hour total per day.

Third: The slightest bump turns it off though it's supposed to have G-Protection. Not to mention that it takes a long time for the player to do anything when you want it to. Turn on the radio and you wait a few seconds. Try to play a CD and you could wait about 20 seconds.

Fourth (though it's really minor, but still annoying): the button placement on the player is very inconvenient. I would like to not have my tracks change when I'm just walking or have the radio get switched on.

All in all, this was a very poor purchase. It's unfortunate because I had gone into the Best Buy around my area to buy a quality product and this was all they had. I can't get a refund and I have to make do with what I have. Pretty much, my next purchase will be an mp3 player as it looks to be more economical in the long run.

Not the best.... Doesn't like CD-RWs.......2006-03-10

My player read CD-RWs for about three weeks, then all of a sudden it got picky and only wants to read CD-Rs! I tested the RWs in my portable boombox from Wal-mart that was like 10 bucks and the CD-RWs played perfectly! I bought this Walkman b/c I constantly change my playlists and you can do that as often as you want with rewriteable CDs. If the product doesn't do as it advertises --"plays both CD-Rs and RWs"-- it's worthless in my book. The radio is mediocre.

Anyway, if you don't have a problem burning *permanent* discs or lugging around your portfolio of CDs, this thing is good enough, but you may as well buy a "regular" (non-fancy) portable CD player for half the price which does the same things as this $40 one! If you do mind and/or you change playlists as often as you change your socks, join the new millenium and buy an mp3 player instead. I love Sony, but they dropped the ball with this one. (I'm opting for the new pink mp3 Walkman Bean, just as cute, but more functional).

Nice idea, just doesn't work.......2007-04-15

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I bought one of these for each of my boys, and also bought an adapter so I could plug it into the wall. Tiny player; doesn't take up much space, and can be used with batteries while we're on the road. The problem? BOTH players freaked out in a matter of months!!! Most often, one or the other just doesn't work (or won't read a CD). Neither allows me to pause or skip ahead anymore. If you touch it funny, it just dies.

I would have given this a five in the month or two after I got both of mine. But I have to guess that since TWO pooped out, it's not just a fluke.

I already had purchased a Coby CD player from you and like it. So, I ordered another one for my wife. It arrived and on arrival it made a noise rather than operating....and never did work from day one. So.... I sent it back immediately to Amazon Customer Service. Naturally......I received no response and doubt that I ever will get one.
I never will order any electronic device directly from Amazon.
Very dissapointed customer. I buy often on Amazon.

When I read the previous review about this thing skipping, I didn't pay too much attention because I intended to keep it on my kitchen counter. However, it skips while anyone walks anywhere near it. This is the most amazingly unstable CD player I've ever seen. The best I can say for it is that with the right peripherals, it could be a nifty seismograph.

Problems with his CD Player.......2005-04-15

When I saw this on line it looked good but when I received it and played a CD on it and I was walking around it skips I really like this walkman because it has FM/AM radio I can not take it back because I broke the package that it came in. So in regards to this CD Player DON'T BUY IT PLEASE.

This low-cost piece of equipment is noisy when searching for the next song to be played,
its tuner is not digital (even though frequency is displayed on the LCD), and some
original CDs fails to play. Is this reasonable if you pay around US$30 for it???

What a waste of money........2006-12-17

I generally consider myself a savvy shopper but I cannot believe I fell for this product. The picture looks cute, but don't be fooled. Mine arrived pretty much dead. You can hear loose pieces rattling inside as you move it. It wouldn't read any CD or mp3 discs I burned, eventhough the manual says it does. To complicate matters, my daughter threw away the box it came in before I had a chance to return this piece of junk. Now I'm stuck with a $40 gadget that plays only FM radio. I probably should have known better. Oh well.

After reading reviews for about a week on Boomboxes w/CD/Mp3 players and totaly confused,I opted for this one. Someone had said there were no really good Boomboxes w/Mp3 capabilities out there, to wait. It sounded like a good idea. I'd get something modestly priced for now and wait on the industry to get with it. At least this was cute and had more or less what I wanted, no remote though. I wasn't going to get that ugly Black Sony ZSSN10PS, which most had agreed was the best out there. It came and I was pleasently surprised how good it played the CD/Mp3's and it is really pretty. The royal blue w/silver shiny knobs, and it was easy to use. Ok, the sound wasn't to good, but I thought what do I know, maybe they all sound like that. Then my son came over and as soon as he seen it said "Oh Wow, could I trade with you? I'll give you my old Sony." (I knew he'd like it it matches his Mustang). Feeling all proud, I said "well I don't know".. Then he turned it on. "Return it". "Why it's not that bad", I said not really wanting to hear the answer. "Ah, yea" he said "It's bad. Now I hate returning things and it was only $32.00 w/no S&H, it'll cost maybe $13.00 to return. So I guess I'll be keeping it, I could live with it. It sounds great in the bathroom. What gets me, it's perfect in every way, why couldn't they go one step further and put decent speakers in it. I'd gladly pay the extra.
Update, for the heck of it I ordered the JVC RC-EZ35. The sound is good and even kinda shakes the walls, but it skips badly on the mp3's (which the jWin never does) and difficult to use if your not born of the computer era. Oh, it does have a remote. I give up. Hope you all have better luck.
