Design
Citizen has designed the CD-800 with the user clearly in mind. We were impressed with the simple arrangement of push-button controls on the top of the device. The LCD screen displays track numbers and indicates various modes of play, while volume control, headphone outlet, BBS control, AC power adaptor outlet and the 'hold' control are all located on the outer rim. The comfortable stereo headphones provide a secure and cozy fit. The two required AA batteries (not included) are housed on the bottom of the device alongside the switch for the CD-800's rechargeable battery recharging function.
Performance
The CD-800 comes with a variety of basic functions, clearly explained in its concise instruction manual. CD, CD-R and CD-RW playback, track skip/search, random play, intro scan, repeat play, Bass Boom System, 24 track programming, hold (button lock) and battery recharging are all offered in this audio player.
We listened to a wide array of music and found the high tones were always crisp and clean, even at the loudest volumes. Citizen's Bass Boom System accented the richness of even the subtlest low tones and beats. The CD-800 met the challenge of accommodating all forms of music and provided us with a satisfying listening experience.
We did find that the CD-800 is fairly sensitive to movement. Although recovery from skipped tracks was quick, the tendency for sound interruption was bothersome. In consideration of this, the CD-800 should not be used for vigorous activity and should be considered primarily for stationary use.
