The Panasonic SLSX286J portable CD player has been designed to virtually eliminate skipping under normal listening conditions. It's been given a thin, lightweight, traverse mechanism to minimize the influence of outside vibrations, and a floating rubber construction to help absorb vibrations. The servo and digital servo systems assure precise focus servo and tracking servo operation with even more resistance to vibrations. However, if a shock does occur, the 40-second backup memory will kick in, and your music will continue to play as if nothing happened. This gives you a near-perfect, skip-free listening environment.
Since the SLSX286J enables playback of CD-R and CD-RW discs, you can enjoy listening to CDs that you make in addition to conventional audio CDs. It also plays CD-DA-formatted audio CDs, a feature not often found in portable units. This unit may not be able to play some CD-Rs and CD-RWs due to the condition of the recording.
This unit also features programmable playback (random, specific order, and repeat of either song or entire disc) and the S-XBS extra bass boost.
A remote control gives you a more convenient way to listen to your portable CD player. It even comes with a clip to prevent it from getting in your way while jogging, and a soft case is included to prevent the player from bumping against you as you move.
This Panasonic portable CD player uses two AA batteries (not included), which last exceptionally long with the Power Last feature. However, there are also a number of other ways to power your Panasonic player. One option is using rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged and then reused time after time. You can also add an AC adapter, which lets you plug your portable CD player into an outlet. The SLSX286J can also be used in your car with a car power adapter. Simply plug the adaptor into your cigarette lighter and you're ready to go. And no matter what power source you use, the auto power-off function shuts off your player once your CD ends.
With a heat-resistant polycarbonate body, the SLSX286J can be used in most outdoor settings without worry of damage. However, the unit should not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.

PROS
¤ PRICE - You can't get anything even half as good for this price, at 50$ its a killer deal.
¤ ESP - It just does NOT skip. Bang it, shake it, drop it, torture it, IT JUST WONT SKIP.
¤ SOUND QUALITY - Its great, that is IF you get yourself a new pair of headphone.
¤ REMOTE - It just makes you wonder how could you ever do without one. Its an ABSOLUTE MUST.
¤ HOLD KEYS - Seperate Hold keys on the player and remote are really handy.
¤ LOOKS - The silver colour player looks MUCH better than the images.
¤ SIZE - Its so compact !!! hardly any bigger than the CD itself.
¤ BATTERY LIFE - I am still running on my first pair....WHEN ??? is it gonna die ?
¤ CD-R CAPABILITY - All my burned CDs worked (but then they also worked with my prev 25$ player)
CONS
¤ HEADPHONES - Its a BIG BIG letdown.
¤ VOLUME - Rather Low, INSUFFICIENT for Public Transport travel. The BIGGEST DRAWBACK of this model.
¤ KEYS - Rather clumsy, but with the remote, you may NEVER need them.
¤ LOW BATTERY INDICATOR - There aint any, but again i guess, it would NEVER be required.
¤ AC ADAPTER - They dont provide one !!!
¤ CARRY POUCH - The straps seem like they couldnt last a WALK (forget a JOG)
I would have given this a 3.5 actually, but given the overall performance and the COST, it gets a 4 rating (rather than a 3 rating). People who intend to use this during travel in public transports (like me) BEWARE this may not be the BEST thing for you. my 25$ Lennox was louder than this. Also count the extra bucks you would spend on buying a decent headphone/earphone. If its shock protection you are looking for, GO FOR IT.

model didn't recognize some cdr's and cd-rw's.
included sports pouch kinda small doesn't hold extra cd.
