Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's ultra-slim SL-CT790 CD player offers the convenience of pocket sizing and remote control operation alongside long battery life and reliable anti-skip protection. The player's No Skip technology combines rubber, shock-absorbing brushings and an anti-skip digital servo with 48-second memory reserve for added back up.

Panasonic's Power Last system uses a highly efficient motor with low-load circuitry for drastically improved playback time, helping the player derive up to 100 hours of playback from two supplied Ni-MH rechargeable batteries in conjunction with two standard AA batteries in the included external battery case.

A hold function activated from the supplied wired remote control prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. You can set it to lock the player, the remote control, or both.

The SL-CT790's digital-to-analog converter is Panasonic's single-bit MASH (multi-stage noise shaping technology) DAC, designed to virtually eliminate distortion and deliver all the subtleties and nuances that make digital recordings so rich.

Playback options include 24-track programming, repeat (track or disc), and random play, and a three-preset equalizer lets you tailor the sound to your preference--choose from S-XBS (extra bass system), live, train (high cut). Auto power-off prevents battery drainage after your CD has ended, and the unit's aluminum top cover and polycarbonate body protects the player from the elements.

What's in the Box
CD player, stereo earbud headphones, wired remote control, external battery pack with two Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, user's manual, and an AC power adapter.

Product Description:
Panasonic brings a beautiful design and a wealth of features to this affordable Personal CD Player. The SL-CT790 has been designed to virtually eliminate CD skipping under normal listening conditions, and 48-second backup memory provides further assurance of a near perfect, skip-free listening experience. You can enjoy listening to CDs that you make, since this portable CD player enables playback of CD-R and CD-RW discs. The SL-CT790 is round and only slightly larger than a CD - it's thin, lightweight, and easy to take on the go. It comes with a remote control that you can clip to your clothing, preventing it from getting in your way while you're mobile. The SL-CT790 has an LCD-readout on its remote control, which makes it easy for you to see the track number and "elapsed time" of what you're listening to. Program this portable CD player to play a CD at random, in a specified order, or to repeat one song or the whole disc, letting you enjoy your favorite tunes without interruption. XBS gives your music an added bass boost for fuller sound. The CD player can be used outdoors because of a heat-resistant, polycarbonate body design. In order to load a CD, the top of the player fully opens, and a slide lock closes it back up once your CD is placed inside, making sure your player won't open during playback. An included pair of stereo headphones lets you enjoy your music to the fullest.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Panasonic SL-CT790.......2003-11-21

I've been wanting to replace my 10 year old cd player for quite some time, but I never found a design I liked. I wanted something that would last a while on a charge of batteries, was thin and had a remote. Design-wise, I wanted something simple, yet modern.

SL-CT790 caught my eye. Met all of my criterias. I've had mine for almost six months and it runs just fine. I knew that it was thin, but when I got it I was still amazed at it's thickness compared to my old one. I also liked the aluminum cover. You don't see metal used for equipment like this anymore. The remote is easy to read and makes changing tracks during the night easy because of EL lit screen. I always get comments about how high-tech it looks and how thin it is.

There are a couple of gripes I have with it though. The player itself doesn't have a screen, so you don't know what track you're playing if you're not using the remote. The buttons on the player are too small and hard to press. The aluminum cover can dent easily if you're not careful.

These are problems are small and rarely come up because I run with the remote anyhow and keep the player in a case. This is a great player if you're traveling because it is light and small. The price is a bit prohibitive and you can find ones that are cheaper, yet have more features. However, if style is high on your list, this is definately worth a look.

4 out of 5 stars Best CD Player I've Ever Owned.......2003-11-01

This is a great CD player, it is the best looking one on the canadian market other than the sony one that costs 100$ more. The sound is really good, i like the remote, the AA battery option cord is very useful when you need some extra listening time after your Nimh batteries die. I have encountered problems though:

1. Even though I charged the batteries just as the manual instructed, my Nimh's die after 4-5hrs. i've found that using my AA adaptor gives the player 3 or 4X longer life. But maybe I messed up the intial charge somehow
2. the remote has no pause button. tapping the multi function button could easilly have been pause, instead, it is stop and holding it turns it off. i don't think that was smart.
3. i dented the metal lid one day in the metro, it was in my pocket. it doesn't affect the playback at all, but why is it so bendable?
4. it does skip. i cant bring it running, or even walk briskly with the battery any less than full.
5. it plays non-stop in my school bag. its frustrating when you bag is singing the white stripes when you're studying. worse still, is the realization that it's been on for 4 hours. i keep both the remote and the player 'hold' buttons on, but somehow...

it is slim, it looks great, the sound is great, the volume is loud enough for us normal non brain-is-pulp-from-45volume people, and it has this awesome plug connection to the player. you can drop it and provided it doesn't hit the ground, it won't be damaged because the headphone plug stays connected. i've scared myself so many times watching the player fall only to dangle at the bottom of the cord in mid-air. nice touch panasonic!

4 out of 5 stars Overall a great player.......2003-05-30

This cd player was an awesome investment. I didn't but it on amazon so it was little expensive in the catalog, but it is a great piece of machinery. It's sound and bass are wonderful. It is so slim I can put it in my handbag without it getting in the way of the things I need insode my bag. Great for students. I use it in school all the time. It's lightweirght, ultrathin look makes it the ideal player for people who don't want a clunky cd-player.
This cd player does not skip. I was walking along one day and i accidentally dropped it. It hit the pavement hard and did not skip at all. I am very satisfied with this cd-player. The remote is an extremely useful feature, although it could use a pause function. However, if you turn the cd player off for only a short time then turn it back on, it will take you to the same track that had been playing. I love this cd-player and obviously this review reflects my opinion that this is a great deal. Though the original headphones are a bit annoying, mostly because I don't like earbuds and the cord was a bit short, it is simple to replace the headphones. Don't let a detail like that turn you off from this great player.

1 out of 5 stars very disappointed.......2002-12-31

I recently got this discman for christmas and i thought it was preety cool judging from the looks of it, until I turned it on. I noticed it had no power, the max volume was quiet. I ended up returning it for a sony s2 sports discman which is amazing its sound is 4 times louder. This is a good discman if u want a small compact model, other then that get a bigger one with some more juice.

4 out of 5 stars Affordable and stylish. Sure beats my old CD player........2002-08-18

After my old JVC portable CD player died (after 5 years of abuse, no less), I decided to buy myself this Panasonic model, since it had good features and came with a reasonable price tag. I have heard people say that Panasonic makes sub-par CD players, but they missed the mark with this particular one. It is a great CD player, plain and simple.

The size of the player is nice, allowing trouble-free use while in your pocket or bag. It comes with a handy remote (another feature I was looking for), so I don't need to fish out the player when I want to skip a track. The only downside with the remot is that it doesn't have a pause button, but this was only a small annoyance.

In terms of sound and bass, it is up there with the best of them. My music taste is so eclectic that sometimes I require a lot of bass while other times I do not. No matter what I listen to, the sound is crystal clear. The anti-skip mechanism works like a charm, and I have yet to hear a skip.

My only real pet peeve with this player is the horrible ear buds that they provide with the player. The length of cord going to the left bid is shorter than the one going to the right. ... Otherwise, I am totally satisfied with this CD player.
