Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
The silver and black RCA RP2478 portable CD player combines eye-catching slim styling and advanced features like support for MP3 and Windows Media Audio formats, a built-in FM radio with 30 station presets, and SmartTrax navigation. It even includes MusicMatch MP3 recording software to get you started burning your own MP3 CDs with up to 10 hours of music. Up to 200 seconds of esp-Xtreme skip protection with MP3/WMA files (45 seconds for audio CDs) makes this CD player virtually skip-free in most conditions and a great choice for joggers and runners.

The CD player's SmartTrax navigation technology helps you quickly access specific songs or playlists among the hundreds of tracks on an MP3/WMA-encoded CD-R/CD-RW. Using a library of computer-generated identification tags to identify digital audio files by title, artist, album, year, genre, and track number, the SmartTrax file-management system can "read" song data from your recordable CDs, letting you view song data and create playlists at the touch of a button. SmartTrax can read the song data even before the song is played. A three-line dot-matrix display shows SmartTrax data and allows 30-track/folder programmability.

Other playback features include Digital Bass Boost Surround for extra low-end slam and added musical depth, three preset equalization settings, and a hold switch to prevent unintended interruptions in playback (and to save batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped). The unit operates for approximately 20 hours on two AA batteries, either alkalines or rechargeables (no batteries included).

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars It is okay.......2005-03-05

This player is good for the first year or so, but after that the CDs and mp3's will not play. Ican no longer listen to cds, but the radio is awsome. If the player is too cold, it will not work at all. in the winter ihad to stick it in front of a heater to get it to turn on. I wouldjust get a regular Mp3 player for this price that i payed for this one($89.99).

2 out of 5 stars Its ok.......2004-12-05

this cd player is good if u want one for running but if u tap it it skip a lot and it has no backlight and one of my buttons stick. a person said it didn't skip at all and it was great. well ur lucky. I would not buy this cd player for the amount they sell it for.

3 out of 5 stars It's okay...........2004-07-22

The reason i bought this one was because it was really affordable, and had all the features i wanted, like the radio, skip-protection, and it played mp3s! But soon after i bought it i found a pretty big problem. I would play like half into a song, then it would just STOP PLAYING COMPLETELY! I dont know why, but it would just stop playing in the middle of a song and freeze. Usually i could just skip ahead in the song and it would play again, but it was really aggravating when i couldn't get through a single song before it froze. I used to think it only did this when the batteries were low, but it recently started doing that even when i had new batteries.

On the upside, I really like the radio on it, it works very well. And mp3 Cds seem to play better than regular cds. So, its up to you. Overall, the cd player has some things wrong with it, but it is darn cheap for all of the features it offers.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS CD PLAYER!!!.......2004-06-27

When i first bought this player, i thought it was pretty good. I already knew it wasn't the best i'd had, but all my cd players break eventually...within a couple years or so. This one however, was by far the quickest one to break. The volume buttons were always a bit funky, they eventually started sticking, and the volume only went up to 30 anyway. Now 30 doesn't sound bad, considering most go up to 10 or 15, but on here, 30 can barely be heard. The radio volume was much louder for some reason, I wish the cd volume was so that i could have enjoyed this for the time it worked. Another thing is that the cds skipped A LOT! I've never seen a cd player that skipped worse than this. My cds are all in good condition and there were at least 10 skips in every song. I do have a couple cds that are old and scratched a bit, and they wouldn't play at all in this player!!! Eventually one day, about 3 months after i bought the player, the cd player quit working. I still have the player today, and the radio does still work, but if you put in a cd it doesn't read it at all. I know that all cd players have problems, and the one i bought to replace this one this winter is already starting to malfunction as well, but please do yourself a favor and do not buy this cd player.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2004-04-12

My dad and I share this player alot and when i have used it which is a heck of a alot with mp3's and normal cd's i have found that this player is above average.

First off i have used the mp3 feature and the esp is awesome. it never skips a beat. the menu feature when you are using the mp3 feature is awesome. overall it is pretty good. the only thing that keeps me from giving it a full five stars is because, the screen is small and it is not backlit. overall it is a very good player and i think that you will be happy with your purchase.
