Pine Technology SM200C D'MUSIC Portable MP3-CD Player
Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
The D'Music SM200C is a portable CD player that will play MP3-encoded discs as well as regular-format CDs, CD-R, and CD-RW media. This means you can burn MP3s from your computer onto a recordable CD (software included). The SM200C supports CDs of up to 200 tracks. To make finding a specific song easier, the SM200C supports ID3 tags. ID3 tags contain a small amount of data about an MP3 file, such as title and artist name, that can be displayed by the player. So, instead of trying to remember what track number a certain song is, you can see the song title while scanning through the disk, making it much easier to find the song you want. The SM200C will automatically scan the disc to determine if it's a regular audio CD or MP3 encoded--no special settings on the player are necessary--and will support encoding bit rates of 32 to 320 Kbps.
Play features on the SM200C include repeat and random mode, or, when a song is paused, press the FF or REW keys to move forward or back 10 tracks at a time. A five-band preset equalizer lets you choose from among these listening modes: pop, jazz, classical, flat, and extra bass.
Convenient features include 10-second antishock protection, an LCD title display for easy control, and included rechargeable batteries that provide up to four hours of playing time (three hours when playing MP3 discs). The player comes with earphones, a line-out cable, an AC adapter, and MusicMatch Jukebox software for creating your own MP3 discs.
Pine Technologies, the manufacturer of the SM200C, offers a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
Product Description:
Not much bigger than a CD case, this player displays song titles, has repeat and auto search functions, and an equalizer that can be adjusted for different music tastes, whether classical or pop. The unit has four standard control buttons - play/pause and stop (which also serve as power on and off) and FF and REW. The five-band EQ gives you choice of five presets: pop, jazz, classical, ex-bass and flat. Scan cycles through short snippets of each song. Physically, the unit is something to behold. Measuring 130 by 142 by 30mm (about 5 inches square, 1 inch deep), it's very sharp looking and well designed.Overall, the sharp appearance, superior quality and useful features make for a solid package. And the ID3 display is nothing short of revolutionary. Unlike other hardware that truncates the filename at eight characters, the full titles scroll by with no chopping. A new benchmark for MP3 CD players has been set.

Customer Reviews:
The SM-200C+ is the best mp3-cd player out there!.......2002-04-11
It doesn't have a back-lit display, remote & isn't upgradable, but I dont need any of that stuff anyways. The back-lit display would just drain your batteries, the buttons on the remote are too small and if a product works with no problems from the start, there is no need to upgrade the firmware.
Look elsewhere.......2001-12-16
There are better players on the market (i.e. every other player). Buy one of those. SERIOUSLY!
Nothing to like.......2001-07-18
Reasons not to by this player:(1)This player is made very poorly. It feels like it is going to break. The paint on the buttons has already started to rub off and I barely use the device. (2) It skips worse than my Sony discman that is almost 10 years old. In the car you find yourself hearing snippets of the songs. It will even skip sitting on a table across the room (there was no dust on the CD). I'm not sure what's wrong with the player but sometimes it is simply unable to play an MP3 for no good reason (3) The headphone jack is finicky. You'll find yourself listening to mono for a while and realize that you have to push the headphone plug into the jack again. (4) Battery life is exceptionally bad. I'm lucky to get 3 hours out of the player. That's not enough to last me one day while I'm at work. Even though it comes with a rechargable battery pack, the battery gauge is still calibrated for alkalines so it looks like you have half of the battery life remaining right after a charge. (5) The ID-3 take support is pointless. If you haven't painstakenly labeled each one of your songs then you'll end up listening to "Unknown Tag" all day. It does NOT default to the file name if there is no ID-3 tag. Get the Rio Volt. Even though it has that annoying dancer at the bottom of the LCD screen, it's worlds better than this device.
Good paper weight!.......2001-05-16
It skipps, it's readout does not have a light so that you can see it in the dark, the readout reads from very little angles, and the sinleg button interface work poorly when looking at the road and trying to change songs. I found myself hitting stop and pause alot!
Also if you plan on listening to something longer than 10 minutes, don't! It plays the first 5 minutes, and then skipps past!
LOOKING FOR A GOOD MP3 CD PLAYER>>> Look elsewhere!
Still needs to be redesigned..........2001-04-12
The first things to look in the best players are: -Long battery life
-Great skip-protection
-Though body
This player has a very short battery life(3hr) and the skip-protection of 10 sec is pointless. For a player at this price(without mail-in rebate since it's not garanteed to get it), we could get something better with a solid body.
The sound quality is fair, but sometimes there's static or annoying sounds.
I recommend to use it by laying it on a table and the skip-protection is there so that you can move it a bit. In that case, you don't need batteries so just use the indoor adapter. So would you pay a little bit more to buy the same player except that you can carry it with you while listening to it? That's why barely one star is worth rating.
For those who are still using ni-cd batteries, this player is going to drain them in an hour or an hour and a half!
Some smart people use it while it's quiet around and they just sit there doing whatever they want. That's why skip-protection is THAT important! I was about to buy this player, but I won't use cuz I usually listen music outdoors...
And also from the date it was in stores in Canada, the price is (glups!) 233% of the American price...
