Now you can enjoy great movie entertainment conveniently - wherever you go - with stunning performance on a par with home-size table-top DVD player models. The DVD-L50's 5-inch LCD screen has 280, 000 pixels to show crisp detail with widescreen images. TFT active matrix LCD technology presents a bright picture with a wide viewing angle and minimal reflections. At last, you don't have to carry along extra equipment just for battery recharging. Since the DVD-L50 has its recharger function built into its body, recharging the battery is easier than ever. Thanks to powerful, reliable technology, you can watch DVDs continuously for up to three hours. That's significantly longer than an entire feature film on DVD, so you don't have to worry about interruption. This adaptor lets you operate the DVD-L50 on a range of AC power supply voltages from 110V to 240V. Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy your favorite movies wherever you roam with Panasonic's portable DVD-LS50 multiformat DVD player. Featuring a 7-inch screen, the 16:9 aspect ratio DVD-LS50 enables you to watch movies in widescreen format or conventional 4:3 formats such as letterbox and pan-and-scan. The LCD can be manually adjusted to a variety of different angles that can accommodate a wide range of viewing positions. The DVD-LS50 also features built-in stereo speakers, a rechargeable battery with a battery life of up to 3 hours, audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS, and a remote control. In addition to DVD video discs, the DVD-LS50 is compatible with DVD-Audio, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, video and audio CDs, MP3, WMA, and CD-R/-RW discs. It also supports HighMAT (High-Performance Media Access Technology), a technology codeveloped by Panasonic and Microsoft that improves the method of storing, arranging, and playing back digital photo, music, and video collections on recordable discs, such as DVD and CD recordable media.
With the high-speed, 5-step Smooth Motion Scan feature, you'll get crystal-clear forward and reverse scan at 100 times normal speed at its highest setting. The Cinema Mode function lessens glare, providing colors that are more cinemalike, and picture resolution that is gentler to the eyes. It also improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast, and helps to suppress color smearing as well. The Dialogue Enhancer feature increases the center-channel volume relative to other channels, making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand.
The DVD-LS50 has 1 composite A/V out and a 3.5 mm headphone minijack. It offers advanced virtual surround sound, headphone surround sound, and optical digital audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound--making this road warrior a complete solution for your home theater as well.
Tech Talk
Dolby Digital: Digital audio compression technology developed by Dolby Laboratories that provides the same 5.1 discrete channels of high-quality digital audio found in Dolby Digital cinema audio systems. Because all of the channel data are recorded discretely, Dolby Digital offers good channel separation and little sound deterioration due to the digital channel data processing. It conforms to 5.1-channel surround sound. The rear channel is stereo, and there is a discrete subwoofer channel.
DTS: Digital audio compression technology developed by Digital Theater Systems that conforms to 5.1-channel surround sound. The rear channel is stereo, and there is a discrete subwoofer channel.

Product Description
The DVD-LS50 features a 7-inch (diagonal screen measurement) LCD 16: 9 screen, built-in stereo speakers, the Mono Arm design and dual headphone jacks. The battery life of the DVD-LS50 is 2.9 hours at the minimum LCD brightness. The Panasonic portable DVD player includes high-speed, 5-step Smooth Motion Scan, a feature that provides crystal-clear forward and reverse scan, in 5 speeds. At the highest setting, the unit scans at an incredible 100 times normal speed. Panasonic portable DVD player optimizes the viewing experience by adding two key features - Dialog Enhancer and Cinema Mode. Dialog Enhancer boosts the center channel volume - where most of the principal dialog emanates when playing a Dolby Digital 5.1 disc - by 6dB. Cinema Mode improves the picture quality by reducing glare, softening resolution and improving visibility of details in dark scenes - resulting in a more realistic, cinema-like image.image.Customer Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Now you can take your home theater with you--or at least a miniature version of it. The Panasonic DVD-L50 PalmTheater lets you watch DVDs on the road, at a friend's house, or wherever you feel the urge for entertainment. The DVD-L50 PalmTheater's sleek steel construction looks great and provides added durability. Panasonic has done a great job of miniaturizing both screen and speakers without sacrificing too much quality. The virtual surround sound is impressive for such small speakers, although it definitely leans toward the high end, making some sounds too shrill or tinny. The sound improves drastically with headphones.
The picture is fairly good with an adequate viewing angle to either side--not what you'd get on a TV, of course, but still good enough to sit through for an entire movie. The DVD-L50 lets you choose between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios at the touch of a button. It also offers a zoom mode that lets you fill the screen with a 4:3 picture, although you tend to get a rather pixellated image. (We found that we preferred the smaller but sharper non-zoom mode.)
The DVD-L50 provides video and digital audio outputs and can be hooked up to a larger home-theater setup. It strikes us as a good choice to take to a friend's house to watch DVDs or to use with hotel TVs on trips. It does have about a two-hour battery life, so you could conceivably watch a whole DVD without being hooked up to an AC outlet (on a plane, for instance). You can also use it as a portable CD player, with or without headphones.

Panasonic DVD-LV50 5" Portable DVD Player

Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's DVD-LV50 is a full-featured DVD-CD player compatible with DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs as well as with MP3 CDs. The player offers a built-in widescreen LCD monitor that uses approximately 337,000 pixels for clear DVD images on the go. The 5-inch screen lets you watch movies in the standard 16:9 widescreen format or conventional 4:3 formats such as letterbox and pan-and-scan. The screen's Freestyle design makes it easy to adjust it to many angles to suit a range of viewing positions.Use normal, full, or zoom mode to adjust the picture size displayed on the LV50's screen to best represent the picture format (standard 4:3, 16:9 widescreen or letterbox) of the software being viewed. Hi-Speed Smooth Scan scans as high as 200x, so a two-hour movie scans forward or backward in merely 40 seconds--and favorite scenes are found in a jiffy.
The LV50's included rechargeable battery fits neatly in the main unit, so the thin, stylish body remains intact when using the battery. The battery holds out for about 2.5 hours of viewing time (with the brightness set to its lowest level) before it has to be recharged. An optical digital-audio output passes DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound for hookup with a surround-decoding audio-video receiver, providing six discrete channels of exhilarating digital audio that deliver the ultimate sound experience. Advanced Surround (V.S.S) simulates surround sound using only the front two speakers, so you can enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1-channel discs without an elaborate home theater system.

Pint-Sized Player Packs Powerful Picture.......2003-04-22
At first I was struck by a few negatives about the DVD-LV50. Contrary to what some stores say, it only has a single monaural speaker, which seems cheap and ill-advised in a unit retailing for six big ones and packing state-of-the-art audio processing.
I also think Panasonic should have included the larger rechargeable battery pack that runs for 3½ hours rather than the pack included that runs for two hours. Most folks will probably want to pop for a spare battery, and at only twenty dollars more than the two-hour pack, the bigger battery is probably the better choice.
But it's easy to overlook these quibbles when you see the picture on the DVD-LV50.
This is flat out the best image I think I've ever seen on a screen of ANY size. (In fairness, I don't believe I've seen HDTV, or if I have I didn't notice it.) Sharp, bright, with pure vivid colors and deep blacks, the picture quality is so good it's right off the chart. The picture really is almost three-dimensional, and the fact that it is appearing on a pint-sized player like this is rather astonishing.
Other owners who said you won't notice the diminutive size aren't kidding. The picture is that enticing. Plug in a pair of earbud headphones, and the DVD-LV50 makes a great companion when you're dining alone. Though I haven't yet traveled with the player, I'm sure it would save the day on a train or airplane as well, if you have enough battery power or access to an AC outlet.
One of the other significant pluses of the DVD-LV50 is its "free-floating" screen. Rather than being hinged to the back of the player as on most portables, the screen here rides on an articulated arm that hinges to the player. This gives you more flexibility adjusting the height and angle of the screen to optimize the picture.
Otherwise the player seems to work like gangbusters, tracking every problem disc I can throw at it with nary a glitch or hiccup. One little detail that's very slick is the way the screen fades to black when you turn the power off - nice! Slow motion is also very smooth - guys know how important this feature is!
In conclusion, the DVD-LV50 is quite a technological achievement, if a mite pricey. The day the price comes down ..., however, these players will simply fly off the shelves.
