Do not buy this Defective product with bad warranty.......2007-06-01

We have had nothing but trouble with this dvd player. The controls don't work right, the sound comes and goes, the screen freezes. And the warranty is bad....we have to send them $18 to replace this defective product and they will take 10 weeks to replace it!!! We bought it to use for the summer....which will be largely gone after 10 weeks of waiting for the replacement. I will never purchase a Coby product again and sure wish I hadn't purchased this one.

The main reason I bought this unit was its price, as well as the promise of having over 2 hours of playing before recharging the battery.
I was disappointed to learn that, after a full charge, I was only able to play the DVD for an hour and fifteen minutes before the low-battery light began to blink.
I may buy an additional battery to have as a spare, but it is not simple or quick to replace the battery. I did not find the unit flimsy and have not had the electrical problems that other reviewers have described.
Overall, it's a good, economical unit with some minor drawbacks.

Keep away from this product. Burning smell on plane only after few weeks occasional use. Child hazardous. It might be comforting for Kolby to see the exploding DELL laptop with Sony battery. After all, one can still turned off the unit and took off the battery when smells burning circuit from inside unit. However, other passengers on flight may be scared as hell. Again, never trust single positive comment on PriceGrabber! May just be a phony company man.

Flimsey Portable DVD player.......2006-08-17

I did not like this DVD player because the DVD player felt too flimsey (easily broken if you are not extremely careful). When the DVD loads, a buzzing nose is annoyingly too high over the movie volume. The Coby 7" is more sturdier than the Coby 10" portable DVD player.

Good little player.......2006-07-27

I have done a lot of research on these players for months now. The most important factor is warranty period and reputation of the company backing it. This unit has a 90 day warranty which is typical. But some are as short as 30 days. I chose not to buy this unit from Amazon because others sold it with an extended warranty option.

I gave this 4 stars because it is definitely a nice unit that works well. But right out of the box I encountered my first problem; DVDs were playing with sub-titles. Using the DVD menu did not work. There is no option in the player's menu to turn off sub-titles. Finally I discovered that by using the remote and pressing sub-title while the DVD is playing displays the current sub-title option. Hit the key immediately again and sub-titles turn off. This is so atypical of the way regular DVD players have worked it is crazy. Also, you have to do this every time you start playing a DVD. It is also a probable violation of the DVD player design rules. This is not a good sign. But so far it is the only DVD player rule exception I have encountered.

But I have found no other problems. The big 10" screen is nice. When you swivel the screen and lay it flat to make it a tablet you have to use the remote. But the locking mechanism also swivels so the screen is locked in tablet mode just like it locks when closed normally (screen inside). Note that like every other portable DVD player I researched, the screen is not high resolution. The CobyUSA website shows it is 1.1 Megapixels. You also can't easily view the picture from any angle other than directly in front of the unit. Increasing the screen brightness helps.
