Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Large clock radio.......2007-01-10

The sound quality is very good, as well as can be expected for the price. The reception on AM and FM is above average and the CD reproduction is equally as good. My two objections are no AM-FM selection on the very large remote and no time signal when the radio or cd is on. If this and the bright display at night does not bother you the Teac is a very good buy for a bedside or den radio/cd player.

5 out of 5 stars a very good radio/cd player.......2006-12-26

I purchased this radio from amazon for $149 & am very pleased with it. The day I got an e mail confirmation that my radio was being shipped - it arrived. I bought it to use in my office & I am very pleased with the quality of the sound & ease of use with the remote. Like other reviewers I was surprised by the size & weight of it - I was expecting something more in line with a Bose. However, my office is good sized so accomodating it was no problem. The antanae works great - I've never experienced any static & I do not have any humming when it's turned off as others have complained of. For the cost I think it is a super buy & I intend to recommend it to my friends.

3 out of 5 stars just okay.......2006-09-08

Good radio and CD player. But it doesn't play most MP3 cds that my other system plays. It was also gigantic so try to get an accurate measurement before you buy this. Not a typical bedside radio. The system sounds great though. I think it's not worth the tag price.

3 out of 5 stars Good table radio.......2006-07-26

I read a trusted review website that has the Teac SR-L50 as the best sounding table radio for its price ( <$150).
I suppose the review may be accurate, but it's just that for the same price you could buy a micro stereo system that sounds 2x better, louder and have more features/functions.

Sound:
The sound from the Teac SR-L50 is nothing to brag about. While it does produce good amount of bass with its 3" subwoofer and adjustable bass boost, the volume cannot be set too loud or the bass will start to distort.
The unit lacks a treble control and the speakers produce less than satisfying treble.
Clarity is so so and loudness is low, suitable only for easy listening (it can only be loud with the bass turned down).
Overall sound is good considering the unit's size, but definetly could have been better.

Features:
Features are okay with CD (mp3 capable), radio (AM/FM) and external aux inputs. FM reception is excellent with the wire antenna extension.
It also serves as an alarm clock with a snooze button and has a sleep timer too.
The remote control is also well made and functional.
Like said above, the lack of a treble control is disappointing.

Appearance:
A bit bulkier than I thought, the unit's rear has an extended portion beyond its eliptical shape. The unit is quite hefty at 15 lbs.
Nevertheless, I would still rate the appearance as very good. The blue lacklit LCD with blue hue accents under the unit and at its sides definitely makes it look modern and cool. The lighting accents and display brightness has a dimmer feature.
The units material and fit/finish is very good as well.

Summary:
All in all, this is a good table radio for the price (bought for $135 shipped), don't expect loud and good quality sound though.
Also, I have not experienced any low humming sounds as reported by other consumers. My unit was manufactured in October 2005.
I bought this Teac SR-L50 for its size and portability. If these two factors are not your concern, then a micro stereo system for the same price would be better, check out the Panasonic SC-PM53 (~$130).

5 out of 5 stars What Hum???.......2006-03-26

Just purchased this beautiful unit today, and have been listening to every type of music conceivable (no, not hip-hop or rap, I said music!) since I got it home. First, I brought out the Goodman 1938 concert in Carnegie Hall -- Goodman, Harry James, Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa sound AMAZING, as does my very old vinyl recording. And of course I had to listen to the "1812 Overture" done by the LA Philharmonic using real cannon rather than the drums normally used...incredible! The highs are clear with no distortion, as is the bass (no muddy, distracting thumping). And, unlike so many units on the market today, the mid-ranges are also excellent. I really like being able to adjust the bass to the music, and the bass boost is very satisfying. In addition, when the volume is turned up, there is no annoying distortion. And did I mention that there's an audio input on the back? My vinyl and cassettes sound almost as good as my CDs. Can't see what time it is when the unit is on? So what, I bought it for the sound, not the time...I've got clocks for that. I would recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a beautifully designed unit that sounds every bit as good as it looks. A definite thumbs up!!!
